It's a huge bummer. Maybe we'll get to play Elon or something.

Yeah, it sucks.   I think teams will continue to do this to us if the buy out is low.

Power 5 teams will continue to do this to Group of 5 teams until almost all games are cancelled. If P5 teams only play P5 teams it effectively locks out the Go5 from the playoff. Very smart move by them.

  2. I like the fact that USF is willing to change the helmets every couple years, but really wish they would put something else besides the "U" logo on every helmet.  Quite frankly, USF needs an entire rebrand. That U has become stale and is associated with losing.

I do like the matte green color but the logo looks terrible. Like a kid made it in art class.

Absolutely disagree. The "U" is unique and easily recognizable. I would like a throwback game, though. Maybe during the 20 or 25 year anniversary season.

  3. Almost...

@McMurphyESPN: WVU’s Luck said in 2011 if B12 blew up, B12/Big East would have merged: Bay, KU, KSU, ISU, TCU, UL, UC, RU, WVU, USF, UCF, UConn

**** ... would have been FARRRRRR better than our current scenario, no doubt.

    Absolutely.

Though, the main point of the article is that the Big12 is not expanding. Their per school revenue was more than the SEC last year.

  4. "My vision for USF football"

    Jamie Newberg, Scout.com

    ...

“It is critical,†Taggart said. “The Tampa Bay area is football. I am a product of this environment.  I know if we keep the Tampa Bay talent here at USF, we will compete for national championships on a yearly basis.  Imagine if the majority of the top football players in the Tampa Bay area said they wanted to stay home and represent ‘the Bay’? It would change how we see college football in Tampa.

When does construction on the fence start?

  5. USF is finally starting to look like an established university. Aside from all of the new buldings, he landscaping has improved tremendously in the past 10 years. It truly needs a signature building, though. Are there any talks of one being built? The admin building certainly could use updating, and it is at the front of the campus.

I'm told former UGa baseball coach David Perno is interested in the @USFBaseball gig. Perno took Dawgs to Omaha 3 times in 5-season span

    Why is the "former" coach?

Looks like just another case of what have you done for me lately. Was there 12 seasons, 6 NCAA's that included the 3 trips to Omaha ... but hadn't gone to a regional in 2 years when he was fired in 2013 ...

Wow... They were paying him $450k a year.

I just wish that decisions would be made already. Just have all the Big 5 teams play their 9 game schedules in conference and fill the rest of their schedules with other Big 5 schools. Break off to their own 60 team division. Have their own Top 20 rankings, etc.

Then we can move on with a clear path. Being part of a 60 team lower division with our own Top 20. With our marquee out of conference games being BYU, Boise State, and San Diego State. I don't like it, but it would at least provide clarity. We could recruit against the other 60 teams in our division and would always be a top 5 team from a recruiting standpoint by getting the best of the 2nd tier talent. The question is: Is there any money in this plan? Most of the really low conferences on the spectrum fund their annual revenue by taking a million dollar game vs FSU. I think that about 20 schools would not be able to survive. So we'd then be down to 40 teams in the lower division. Would there be a TV market for this 2nd tier division? There are so big media markets (Orlando, Dallas, Tampa, San Diego, Las Vegas, Cincy) but would there be viewers ?

God, that would suck. If we'd never have a chance at a big bowl ever again, I'd lose interest in college football all together. I'd just follow NCAA basketball, at least that's a fair setup.

There are 63 Group of 5 teams fighting over one "big bowl" spot. We could go 12-0 and only make the BBVA Compass Bowl.
