it's a state school funded by state and federal taxpayers.

60% of their student body gets financial aid.

the taxpayers would pay $50M less if those fees went towards the schools mission which is to educate the public.

So in a sense, you and i are partly paying for them to have a division 1 athletics program.

I would rather my taxes help pay for athletics, that I enjoy, than giving massive tax breaks for big business. That we have no choice or control over.

the ncaa is toothless. there are already different divisions for college sports. no reason why there can't be another.

the revenue disparity in FBS is ridiculous.

OSU athletic department had $250M in revenue.

JMU had $57M. Of that $57M , $50M came from student fees. each student there pays $2,362 of mandatory fees for their athletic programs.

Do those students choose to attend JMU?

I get it.  And I never said any of the P2 would shutter their programs.  I was just saying the ranks of what teams are amongst the "haves" and "have nots" can change pretty rapidly with the circumstances.

I guess what I’m saying is that if Kaiser and Stetson can afford sports/football then it really doesn’t matter what the P whatever’s do. USF will be just fine.

I believe the colossal egos of leadership in the those two conferences keeps them from doing so.  But eventually, after the B1G and SEC kill off all the "lower" conference programs, they will have nowhere else to turn than to start cannibalizing their own.  Welcome to the P2 picnic!

I think the doomsday thoughts are a bit insane. IF that scenario were possible there wouldn’t be any lower level leagues now.

Yes they will eventually trim those schools and have the biggest brand names only.  It's stupid.  Hopefully whatever is left can form their own league.

The “others” already have the league/conferences. There’s the ACC, B12, AAC, CUSA, etc. Think about the money side of sports. We have the pro sports that will be followed by the P2 and then the rest of us.

  6. Understanding the premise of the P2, but exactly what does any school have that makes them attractive? Maybe 3-5 schools have some clout, but the vast majority offer nothing substantial. Will the P2 be willing to pare the Vandy’s or Indiana’s to make room? I mean let’s face it, will the SEC cut Vandy for UNC? Will the B1G cut Indiana for FSU? Will TV make up the difference?

I never stated I could and said they were tough as well, just don’t look like college kids and that is what we are joking around about.

That's because they're not college kids. They're repping USF in the World's Toughest Race-Atlantic.

Salty Science, the rowing team led by USF Professor Chantale Bégin, has won first place in the women’s class in the World’s Toughest Row-Atlantic -- the first North...
