  1. I don't have my media guides handy (they are all at my office). But we started playing football in the early 1940's We were actually Div I (or I-A) from about 1975 to 1983 when we dropped down to I-AA along with the rest of the old Southland Conference. We and USL (now La-Lafayette) were the only teams in the conference who met the requirements to stay I-A. We elected to go down with the conference and they elected to stay I-A as an independent. Since those days a lot of teams that were with us in the Southland back then have moved up. La. Tech, ULM, Ark St., and North Texas. When we were I-A we played in three Independence Bowls. We beat Tulsa in the inaugural Indy Bowl in 1976, lost to Syracuse in the 79 Indy Bowl, and blew a game with a last minute fumble against Southern Miss in the 1980 Indy Bowl. Right now we don't have any plans to move back up because we really can't afford it. Doc
  2. Not if they are cooked right and you know how to do it. You pull the tail off. Take the first ring of shell off. Grab the exposed "meat" with your teeth. Pull with your teeth while you push with your thumb on the underside of the tail from the back. If they are boiled correctly the meat will slide right out of the tail. Takes about 15 secs per crawfish. Oh, yeah, don't forget to suck the heads. Doc
  3. Eric, I'm glad you enjoyed the trip. We enjoyed having the Maine fans in the tailgate area. We had a bunch come through the Geauxcowboys.com tailgate tent. We love feeding opposing fans. As far as the crawfish, all you had to do was think of them as smaller spicier lobsters. Doc P.S. The fact that you guys won (a close game) probably didn't hurt your trip.
  4. The NCAA doesn't recognize the BCS winner as a true NCAA National Champion. Doc
  5. No, not Bowl Division. It is the Bowl Subdivision. B.S. for short. Doc
  6. You guys can relax. After December of this year you guys will not be scheduling anymore Div I-AA teams. Doc
  7. Well, I just got McNeese's practice schedule and there won't be any poker tournament playing for me. Our Media Day is at 6PM your time that day. I'll be busy taking pictures. Doc
  8. Hey, Can any of your opponent fans get in on this tournament? I'm mainly a winning micor-limit player and only play SNG's and tournaments for fun, so I'd probably be just donating my money. Doc
  9. Before they shutdown the board to start repairing things, there was a message that said it was "hacked by PSDN". Anybody have any idea about that name or acronym? I hope it doesn't happen again to you guys. Doc
  10. Cool if it happens before the first game!! We will pack the branding irons. Doc
  11. Does this mean the Cowboy fans are going to have to smuggle their Cowbells into the stadium in Sept.?? Doc
  12. You guys start late!   I'm usually try to get to our reserved tailgate spot about 10 AM.  And we have a lot of the guys in RVs and travel trailers set up FRiday afternoon and then don't leave until Sunday morning. One other thing,  I need a South Florida hat for my hat collection on the wall of my office.  I started collecting hats of our opponents in 2001.  I'm willing to buy a hat from one of you guys. Hat collection can be seen below.  I need to take a new picture as this picture is from two seasons ago.  I've added about six more hats since then. Doc
  13. Thanks, guys, I'll leave it set where it is. Night games are the only way to go. Hopefully, our the light standards and lights at our stadium will be back up before the start of the season so we can go back to our regular night games. It sucked last year because with the lights down, we had to play our home games (the whole two that we had and that sucked, too) in the daytime. More fun at night and you can tailgate all day before the game. Doc
  14. Has the gametime for the McNeese game been set yet or is it still TBA? I need it for my countdown timer and my messageboard countdown string. Right now I have it set on 6PM CDT. Eastside Countdown McNeese Messageboard Thanks, Doc
  15. That's similar to what I use.  I've got a Canon 20D and use the Canon 75-300 IS lens.  Just invested in a monopod for next season to help my left shoulder out.  Some of my McNeese Sports Pictures if anybody is bored or interested.  Later, Doc
  16. Good pictures! I take pictures for our fan website and I'm curious. What equipment are you using? Hopefully I'll be on the sideline for the first game. Thanks, Doc
  17. D*mn freaking NCAA denied a 12th game for I-AA. I'm pissed, adding bowl games but not letting I-AA play 12 games. We needed the extra game for our ailing hurricane damaged budget. Pissed, Doc
  18. Our mascot's name is Rowdy. He got that a long time before the Dallas Cowboys named their wimpy looking mascot, Rowdy.. Looks like Rowdy needs to be working on his roping skills and pack his branding iron. Doc
  19. The cheerleaders and mascots usually make the trips. Most of the time on the team plane. I got a couple of emails about that beach picture. They thought that some kid might see it and be scared for life if they happen to see a picture of a human breast. I left it because it was part of my memories of the trip. The countdown is set for 7PM Eastern. I'll need to adjust if if the game time turns out to be a different time. Doc
  20. If any of you guys are bored, here is a link to my pictures of the FIU trip and game in 2004. Like I said 2004 was the worst year we've had in a long time. Too many freshmen and sophomores were playing. Of course a lot of them are seniors and juniors now. :-) http://www.geauxcowboys-eastside.org/fiu04.asp Doc
  21. ;D I checked the history page on the UCF website and for some reason in the 1995 part of the history no details of that game are mentioned. But that was a fun game for the Cowboy fans. Culpepper and UCF were getting a whole lot of press and that pissed off our defense and our senior QB. Qb Kerry Joseph, who has Qb'd Ottawa in the CFL the last few years, didn't like it that some freshman Qb was getting all the attention and hype. He ended up having a great night. And Culpepper spent the whole night running for his life from our defense. I think there is still some Culpepper backside imprints in the turf near the South endzone of Cowboy Stadium were DE Kavika Pittman buried him a few times. It was total domination that game. Fun times. Doc
  22. That's true! Go ahead and then start game plannig for the fourth game then. We've got history with both those teams. We went over to Miami and played FIU in our 4-7 2004 season and still beat them. We played UCF in 1995 here and beat them and Culpepper 49-7 a week after Florida St. had beaten them 42-14. At the time they played FSU, FSU was No. 1 in I-A and then a week later us and we spent the whole regular season as No. 1 in I-AA. The only game we lost that year was to Marshall and Chad Pennington in the semi-finals of the playoffs. Doc
  23. If you are talking about the chances for the vote, I think it is almost a slam dunk. The Div I Management Council has approved it and all that is needed is a vote by the Div I Board of Directors to rubber stamp it. If you are talking about the game with ULL, I don't know. We are down from where we were in the late 90's and early 2000's and ULL is going to be better than they have been for years. If it had been three or four years ago, I would say our chances were good. It depends on how we improve and whether we are back to form. Also, it was at one time was a big rivalry game. I think back in the 70's an article in Playboy Magazine had it rated in the Top Ten College football rivalries in the nation. Anything can happen in rivalry type games. Of course, we are just a little I-AA school, we are supposed to lose to you I-A types. You guys will probably clean our clocks. You can probably forget about us and start working on your game plan for the second game. Doc
  24. Last time we played more than one was in 2002 when we lost to Nebraska 38-14 and beat Louisiana Monroe 24-19. Doc
  25. It is being done for money because of the big hole in our budget due to Hurricane Rita.  The only team in Louisiana hurt worse by a hurricane than us was Tulane by Hurricane Katrina.  Doc P.S. I just hope we give you guys a good game.
