  1. Duquesne is a non-scholarship school competing in non-scholarship conference. The strength of schedule kills them because they don't play any of the big I-AA scholarship schools from the major I-AA conferences. Saying that they should be in the playoffs would be like saying that a Sunbelt school should be in a BCS bowl game just because they won the Sunbelt conference. Essentially most of the nonscholarship schools are really Div III type football programs that were forced into I-AA when they wanted to play their other sports in Div I and the NCAA ruled that to play any sport in Div I all of a university's sports have to be Div I. Thus they ended up being stuck in Div I-AA. There is a world of difference in the full scholarship schools in Div I-AA and the non-scholies. If they want to compete in the I-AA playoffs, they need to step up and play a schedule that would get them in. If you want to check it out for yourself, check Duquesne schedule and compare it to the Div I-AA top 25. You won't find any schools on the Duquesne schedule in the Top 25. So your reason for not wanting playoffs in Div I-A doesn't fly. Doc
  2. Yes, the OC got the interim tag taken off the week before the last regular season game. I'm glad they went ahead and did it. He is a hell of a good guy, a very smart X's and O's guy, and deserved it. Also, I'm glad for recruiting purposes that the head coach thing got settled quick. Good luck, Doc
  3. Since our season is over, I decided to check back in with you guys where it started. First, congratulations on your upset win over West Virginia. We've been keeping our eye on the S. Florida scores all season. I even caught a few of your games on TV. Good luck, whatever bowl you guys get in. I'll be watching and rooting for you. As far as our season. After four games, we were 1-3 and our head coach got canned for not disciplining players (long story) more than the record. Our OC took over and we turned it around and went 6-1 and won our conference and the autobid to the playoffs. We got sent to No. 2 Montana where visiting teams rarely win in the playoffs. I made the trip. It snowed before and after the game but luckily not during. But we got our butts kicked and now will be sitting home watching the second round of the playoffs. Season started with a fun road trip to Tampa and ended with a fun trip to Missoula. Definitely different climates but we had a good time on both trips despite losing both games. Now we are looking forward to the next couple of seasons because we have a young team. Good luck in the bowl game. Later, Doc
  4. Don't know for sure but it was probably somewhere around $35K. I think they bussed over to play Delta St. in Miss. then instead of going home they spent the week in between in Batron Rouge practicing on some various high school fields. Then they bussed across the state to play us. Good luck next Saturday, Doc
  5. They were like a glorified high school team. We scheduled them when they were Div II. Then they fired all their coaches, got rid of a lot of players, and dropped down to NAIA. They had something like 70 freshmen on their team (not all of them made the trip over). They called us and wanted to know if they could still come play us because they needed the check real bad. Delta St., a Div II team, beat them 61-0 a week before we played. And we could have scored a 100 on them if we had wanted to. We didn't throw a pass the second half and fair caught all the punts in the second half. They had negative offensive yardage for the game. Everybody that dressed out that wasn't redshirting played in the game. I just hope we play Toledo a good game. I guess one of these days, we will actually play a Div I-AA school. Doc
  6. Hey Guys, Congrats on your win over UCF. I was able to watch the end of the game on my computer. We played O.D.U. this week. I hate when we play them. They don't score, we don't score, and nobody shows up for the game. I just don't know what to do with myself when we don't have a game. Good luck next week with Kansas. We get to go play Toledo who beat Kansas this past Friday in OT. I'm making the trip, I hope the team shows up. I can't get on the main Toledo messageboard because the administrator won't send me an activation email to activate my account. Frustrates me when I can't talk to the opposing fans. Good luck, I'll check back in next week, Doc
  7. Just checking in to see what's up. What happened against FIU?  I was a little surprised  to see the final score.  I expected you guys to handle them easily. You aren't making me feel good about our play against you.   We played a team last week that shouldn't even have been on the same field with us.  West Virginia Tech.  They were a Div II team that dropped down to NAIA after we had already scheduled them.  Only good thing is that just about everybody that dressed out played.  Final score was 76-0 and it could have been over 100.  We started fair catching punts and didn't throw a pass in the second half. We are off this week and then head for Toledo for the next for another good test.  We won't play a Div I-AA team until South Dakota State comes to town on Sept. 30th. Good luck next week, Doc
  8. The Jackson's Bistro-Bar-Sushi that is next to the Westin Tampa Harbour Island Hotel where the McNeese team stayed was great.  There was a lot of good "scenery" in it late Friday night. As far as the South Florida team, expect a **** good fast hard hitting defense. I had a good time in Miami two years ago when we played you guys.  And the results of the game were a lot nicer, too. Doc
  9. Good luck this weekend, but I don't think you really need it. We play West Virginia Tech this week who got beat by Div II Delta St. 61-0 last week. So you know how that is going to go. We then have a open date and go to Toledo the following week. That should be a fun trip and a big challenge. I need to ask you guys a favor. I want you to beat the hell out of a lot of teams and almost totally shut them down on offense with your defense, especially in the next couple of weeks. The reason why is so the fricking naysayers on our messageboard will get off our offense's back. I keep trying to tell them that we be alright because you guys have a great defense but I don't think it is sinking in. Thank you and good luck, Doc
  10. Should be corrected now. It looks like I did that only on the game entry page. You see anymore major mistakes let me know. My brain is numb right now and I'm going to rest it awhile. :-) Doc
  11. Sorry, my mind is numb from going through all the pictures, naming them, enhancing some of them, and then putting them in pages. I'll try to go back and edit the "Southern" Florida references. Doc
  12. Here is a link to some links for some more pictures of the McNeese-USF game.  Note that these were done for the McNeese fans so they were taken and put up for more of a McNeese perspective of the game. Enjoy, Doc Geauxcowboys.com Eastside Page Game Pictures
  13. Falls under the rules for being in a public place. Whatever it is called. Doc
  14. I usually take a couple of opposing team crowd shots but missed that this time. I'm sure your guy gots some pics. I did take a few of your cheerleaders. Something about a pretty girl wearing a shirt that says "POKES" appeals to me. Doc
  15. We had to leave half of them at home.  Only six cheerleaders and the cheerleader coach (who dressed out for the game) were allowed space on the team plane. Doc
  16. Who is this guy and what is he doing taking pictures on my sideline????     Doc
  17. I agree-- it was a fumble. Perhaps it was a little bit of relief from all the flags they kept throwing on us any time we got a first down in the first half. Some of those were earned-- some were pretty ticky tack. I'll be pulling for the Cowboys to run the table to a national championship. You guys have a lot of talent-- and those linemen certainly had some good size to them. Acutally, the refs didn't blow the call on the fumble.  Here is how it works. - USF had posession of the ball. - If was fumbled into the endzone, and went out of bounds across the sideline. - The rule is the same as if the ball is fumbled out of bounds at the 50 yard line: the team the fumbled retains possession, but since it went out in the endzone - the spot is where the player fumbled. So, the officials called it correctly. If the ball had been fumbled across the endline, it would be a touchback for McNeese State. Unless they have changed the rule, that is not true. We had the exact same thing happen to us in the 2002 semi-final game with Villanova. We had a runningback go around to exact same corner. As he was going down he tries to reach the ball over the goal line. After his knee hits the ground (which the refs flat missed and definitely showed on the replays) the ball got loose, went through the corner of the endzone, out of bounds in the endzone. It was ruled a touchback and Nova got the ball on the 20. I have seen this happen a few times. If you fumble into the endzone and it goes through or out of the endzone, it is a touchback and the ball is given to the other team on the 20 yardline. It was my impression that they ruled him down before he fumbled. Which is what the ruling "should" have been in our 2002 semifinal game. Doc
  18. You had to look for someone uglier than the avatar. Bercegeay's first shanked punt came right to me. If I hadn't had a camera in my hand, I'd have caught it. You see a replay of the game, I'm on the sideline in a white shirt and khaki colored shorts. I think MikeG took a picture of me. Maybe he'll post it. It didn't make his album, but I don't blame him for that. I do better behind the camera than in front of it. Doc
  19. You guys were supposed to take it easy on our poor little I-AA players!  You did a good job of it until the fourth quarter.  ;) Just got up and did some work around the house and am getting ready to work on my photos of the game.  Those charter flights back home right after the game make for a very long day. Seriously, thanks for the game.  Looking back I'm pleased at our effort even though we ran out of gas in the fourth quarter.  I attribute that to your defense.  From being down on the field you guys have a **** good defense.  Quick and fast.  Our defense eventually tired because your defense shut down our offense and kept our defense on the field.  We've got some things to work on.  Those two bad snaps and/or bad decisions on punts killed us.   I, also,  got to meet MikeG on the sideline.  Even got a picture of him.  I'll post here when I get my pictures of our trip and game up online. I'll be pulling for you guys this season.  Hope to see you in a BCS bowl game when the season is over. Doc
  20. Yeah, I graduated from McNeese in 72 and from the LSU School of Dentistry in 76. People tell me I'm old but I don't feel and act like it most of the time. By the way, it's McNeese first and I've cooled off a lot the last 20 years on LSU. I don't like how a lot of the Tank Top Nation fans act. Doc
  21. The more cowbell, the better.  Cowbells are part of the McNeese tradition.  I'm sure there are some cowbells on the way to Tampa and, there will be some throwaway cowbells smuggled into the stadium.   By the way, cowbells are allowed in Cowboy Stadium.  That's where the good ones are used.  We are more careful about using the good ones on the road. If Andre makes the trip, hopefully he'll be playing a lot of "Jolie Blonde" on the duckcall. Doc
  22. Ha ha.  You don't need to be defensive.  You guys are more loquacious than the Nicholls State bunch we entertained a couple of years ago.  Are they your biggest rivals?  They were pretty good.  We let them have some fun before we put them away. No, our bitterest rival hasn't played us since the 1980's. And that is USL, ULL, or whatever the L they call themselves this week. And I'm talking bitter rivalry. We used to play them the last game of the season and after the first game and each succeeding game the "Go to Hell, USL, Go to Hell " cheers would start up. It made the list of most bitterest rivalries in football in Playboy Magaizine back in the 1970's. Of course, they have finally scheduled us for 2007, so some time next summer I expect things to really start getting nasty on both our messageboards. It started to get nasty right after the scheduling of the game was announced but as this season came around it died down. But it will intensify after this season is over and next season gets closer. Nicholls is been more like a gnat that has buzzed around and bugged us and occassionally bit us in the ass. Doc
  23. I'm throwing a flag on this one. That quotation is taken out of context. Jay was referring to his messageboard smack talking not the play of the teams. Doc
  24. Hey, we are in the same Division as you guys. Division I. The subdivisions are different. Get the terminology right. Doc
  25. Sigh!! (again) Jay is not mad. He just likes to pull chains. And, it looks like you guys are going to give him the responses he wants. Doc
