  1. I love seeing the Bulls win. However, I feel that one of the most important reasons to win this game is to keep the trolls away. It has been wonderful to come on this board and not have to shift thru all the bs posts. The Fire Tags, SB for QB, fire QF as QB, it's the end of USF Football and what ever the negative flavor of the day was at the time. I don't understand why someone who supports the school and the team could be so negative. If you are unhappy that's ok. Nothing wrong with making a post about your worries. But to spend hours upon hours making negative post seems to me to be unhealthy . I support the team and school by going to the games and making donations. I wear USF gear and talk about how much fun it is to be a part of the USF experience. It's great talking to people about this year's football team and telling them how you were there when Selvie and Pierre-Paul were working their magic. How, watching Coach Allen makes you think of Coach Leavitt. Some might call me silly for caring about a school and what people are saying about it. I prefer to think of it as not being silly.....but being a Bull. :dankk2:

This is also a world I dream of.

  2. You get what I am saying though.  Should be a great game and whoever wins it will not be a blow out.  Probably will go down to has the ball last unless you all run all over our defense.  Our run defense is suspect at best.

And for those thinking this bowl is irrelevant, I felt the same way.  How the runner up in our conference get a better bowl in my opinion than us facing a PAC10 school?  Looking at your conference bowl tie ins you probably wish you were playing against an SEC or ACC team.  I think being 4th overall in your conference and playing a top 25 team is pretty good even if it is a team from the sticks.  LOL  My prediction is still WKU 44 - USF 40!!!!!!

I'm not saying it's going to be a blowout, but your point of 'running all over your defense because your defense is suspect at best' is kind of our point.  I don't know what happens in this game, but WKU doesn't score 44.  We run the ball effectively and that takes away time of possession.  It's what we do.  I think WKU will have to hold us to under 27 to win this one.

  3. After more thought on this, there really aren't too many options around the stadium that I would recommend within walking distance.  HOWEVER, within a 15-20min walk there are some great spots.  There is ONE place by the stadium, but I have not been to it.  Its called "Batting Cage Sports Bar", menu looks legit and its steps away from the ballpark.  You might see some bad reviews on google maps, but that usually comes from the patrons that go when its a "club" after hours.  During our game and before/after it will be any old sports bar with good food at NON-stadium prices.

I usually try and get out of there ASAP after the games, unless im drinking in the Clevelander in Left Field.  This is the best bar in the area in my opinion, but the prices are steep.

There are a bevy of other options about a 4min Uber away, or 15-20min walk(immediately south). "Calle Ocho" District.  One is called Ball & Chain.  Its Iconic watering hole from 30s-era miami and is located in Little Havana.  Check it out!  www.ballandchainmiami.com

Other than that there are a ton of other options in the Calle Ocho district for food before and after the game.  But after the game I recommend going to Coconut Grove, Brickell, South Beach or Wynwood and really taking in the more artsy and beautiful parts of Miami.  :)

    GO BULLS!!!

Cool thanks again, just had another USF Alum commit to flying in for the bowl game and he lived in the Miami/Brickell area for a few years.  So, we can use your suggestions plus his to come up with something.  We are probably going to take that Calle Ocho district suggestion.  Ironically, I've been to the Clevelander on South Beach for New Year's back in 2010.  Pure craziness.

  4. Hey Everyone!

Your local USF/Marlins fan here to give you some free advice on the gameday situation at Marlins Park and the surrounding areas.

The stadium is beautiful(I cryed when i first walked in), but its in a terrible neighborhood for driving and "high capacity crowds".

I'd say that for an average Marlins game, there would be around 15k-20k people there, and its still somewhat difficult to navigate.

For this game I anticipate it being around 25-30k which will be a tad under the capacity(it only holds 37k), and this means that driving will be a sh!t show.  Honestly, if you plan on getting there early to tailgate, I recommend finding out the LOT in which you can park in.   Not sure they'll allow tailgating in garages(though honestly thats the most premium and optimal place to park).  There are a couple lots too, but they are very small, but will most likely allow tailgating.  Outside of those two options(Garages/few small lots) there are a few other options.

http://miami.marlins.mlb.com/mia/ballpark/marlins_park_parking.jsp - 4 garages and a handful of small lots, and this site also outlines the  METRO-Rail, residential parking, and other methods of getting to the stadium.

Parking at someones apartment or on a lawn: This is how it used to be done when this was the orange bowl.  I will estimate that parking close to the stadium will be around $20  cash for this game and you can park in someones front lawn.  This is a good option if you want to get in and OUT quick.  Because the garages can take some time as well as the small lots.  I always trust me car in someones place, I've been to over a 100 marlins games and this i s the option i usually take.  Unless im ushering around my grandparents(then i'd do the garage).  Or make sure the Lawn parking was close.

Miami METRO-Rail: You can park at any satellite parking structure for the Miami METRO-Rail and take the train to the game.  The station you can get off at is the CIVIC CENTER stop(i may have said UM Jackson before, this is incorrect).  I have done THIS option for a few marlins games, and its honesty pretty stress free.  IF you like to walk.  Its about a 0.8mile walk to and from the stadium.  Since the game is at 2:30 and will probably end during  RUSH HOUR, i recommend this option.  lol

As for HOTELS and the team hotel.  The Lowes Hotel is REALLY nice but kinda far away (in the heart of South Beach).  You kinda need a car if you are planning to stay there.  Those of you choosing to stay in the Brickell area or Downtown will have a much easier time getting to the Stadium.  If I were an out of towner, wanting to take public transit and a savvy traveler, I'd choose brickell  area and metro-mover/METRO-Rail it.  South Beach is a great area and will be super posh and fun for all who choose to stay there, but there are awesome, far cheaper options Downtown.

Also, for travelers on a budget, the Stadium is actually quite close to the airport.  Whenever i have businiess in Miami, my company books in the Airport area and they run quite a bit cheaper than Downtown and South Beach.  You can also avoid those pesky "resort fee's" booking at an airport hotel.  I recommend having a car if you choose an airport/Miami-mart area hotel, but its a SUUUUPER easy drive to get to the stadium from there.

Those looking for legit Cuban food down there will have no problem finding fantastic restaurants a stones throw from either where you're staying or even the stadium.  Little Havana has some great spots and so does south beach.  I recommend Puerto Sagua on Washington AVE in South Beach for cheap "terresita like" Cuban Food, I believe its also open 24hrs.  There also a GREAT Mojito place on Espanola Way in South Beach called "Mojitos Lounge" .  They run a special $5 Mojito all day and have a good happy hour. ..trust me...thats the CHEAPEST you'll find in South Beach.  lol

Also... for the Cigar City and Beer Knurds out there, check out Wynwood Brewing Company  in Wynwood!  Also the J.Wakefield and Concrete Beach Brewing Company in Wynwood .  :icon_drink:

I highly recommend the Wynwood district for food and drinks postgame, or pregame.  Its an awesome and new/upcoming arts district.

Hope those of you going have a GREAT TIME and I'll see you down there!

If anyone has any questions or wants recommendations please feel free to ask or PM me.

    Cheers guys and gals!

    GO BULLS!!!

    DT

Thanks for the advice.  Some fellow USF alums and I will be staying in Fort Lauderdale and will probably Uber in.  You said there are some restaurants close to the stadium.  Does that include bars?  And are they walking distance?  We are going to have a group of 6 or 7 and thinking of passing on the alumni tailgate since it only includes 2 drinks.

  5. This is no disrespect to you personally, because you are far from the only one saying this, and I completely realize I'm in the minority, but I feel this is a rationalization (not sure if that's really the correct word) on the part of the "OCS NOW!" group that helps them justify their need want for a "better gameday experience," combined with their need want of being in a P5.

Saying that we NEED to have an OCS in order to get into a P5, bottom-line, is more of a hope to the OCS NOW! group, because there's literally no evidence out there that shows this to be the case.  Trust me, if the USF administration agreed with you that an OCS was critical to getting in a P5, we'd know where exactly and when breaking of ground would start.

The truth is that the only evidence of the best way to get into a P5 conference shows that the key is how to make the other members $$$.  That's it, folks.  It really is as simple as that.

GA, I get what you are saying and I'm trying to tell you that I literally have NO EVIDENCE.  Even if there was some shred of evidence, I'm too lazy to go find it.  I'm actually not part of the OCS NOW! group.  I do want an OCS eventually but when the time is right, I'm just telling you my opinion.  My opinion here is not based on fact, it's purely on conjecture of who I've talked from BIG 12 alums (which some are diehards and donors but none are behind-the-scenes or 'in the know') and what they think is important to their conference.  I just believe that if we are negotiating behind the scenes, that the OCS being delivered within an X amount of years will be in the BIG 12 contract.  Why I think this, maybe because I've lost my mind, I don't know.

Also, I'm better explaining stuff in person, and I'm heading out from Dallas to the bowl game.  Let me know if you'll be around, I'll buy you a cold one and tell you how I'm a bit off the rocker.

  6.

Jerk ..... Good question, though. Why would the B12 give a crap where we play games? Maybe their teams would enjoy playing in a state of the art NFL stadium on a regular basis ... plus, there would never be a shortage of tickets available for the visiting team.

Honestly, I think they care about their tradition of having schools with on campus stadiums.  Really nothing more than that, I realize Pitt is in the ACC without one.  I just think the Big 12 values a brand and tradition which we lack (for the most part), but I think if we agreed to build an OCS that would satisfy them if they were already interested in us.

Like I said, just purely my opinion, and I'm not trying to get anybody on my side.  I'm not even trying to make an argument here lol.  This just how I view it living in the middle of Big 12 country and working with a ton of Big 12 alums.

  7. The B12 invited TCU to join when they already controlled the Texas market. There's no reason they won't do it again considering how well Houston has performed and the upward trajectory of their program.

Sellular, this was going to be my next point.  I get why you think UH doesn't make sense, but I honestly think it's Cincy, Memphis, Houston, USF/UCF in that order.  Like I said, just my conjecture.  I believe our invite (if it ever came) would be tied to the requirement of building an OCS.

  8. I understand the people that are upset with the timing of the Bowl Game. I am not sure I am going to be able to make it 2:30pm on a Monday before Christmas is hard.

That being said the disrespect for our opponent in the game is ridiculous. People are pissed because we didn't get a major conference 6 win team. Many people expect a blow out.  Some of our fans must think we are the new Alabama or something.

WKU is a good football team, and I expect a close game. They are a 10 win team with losses to LSU (by 28) and Indiana (by 2) I know Indiana is 6-6 but that is a **** good team, with 1 possession losses to Ohio State, Iowa, and Michigian.

The Seniors on the WKU team were all recruited by Taggs and they will be ready to play. A win for USF here is a Quality win, and to be honest possibly the most win of our season.

    Go Bulls, Beat WKU.

You're right, and they are an AP Top 25 team.  Here's your chance for redemption from SoFlo friday night folks, this is Memphis Lite.  Everyone begged for different play calling, let's see what happens when we get another chance.

  9. Just my opinion, but I think Cincy would be in for sure (WVU partner) and they just re-did their stadium.  Basketball and Football are always solid.  Memphis and Houston would be the most likely scenarios for next two.  BYU is in a third time zone which will scare the BIG 12 away, and our outside chance on an invite would be tied to an on campus stadium agreement.  Either way, I don't see a scenario with us getting in without the BIG 12 going to 14 teams which I don't think they do.

  10. Would have much rather faced a team like Auburn in the Birmingham Bowl than a CUSA opponent. WKU is a tougher opponent but less of a signature win for the program IMO.

Agree with what you're saying but there was no way with 4 Florida Bowl games that we were headed to Birmingham.  The only outside shot was Orlando and a PAC 12 at large team.  This is good for recruiting in Miami as long as we win.

  11. Saw there was a former UF DB at the cincy game on a visit. Could that have been JC Jackson? Heard he's working out in Tampa and looking to get back into football after clearing up all his legal issues.

@ Temple game but you are correct  Former 4 star and ESPN 300 recruit

  12. For me it's Syracuse or ECU.  Cincy, as shocking as the score was, I thought we'd play well at home.

ECU was just so surprising because going on the road in a big conference game (in a bad weather) has just never been our strong suit.  When adversity hit, we hit a 67 yard TD to win the game.  We have been crapping the bed in that type of game for 10 years now (other than @Nevada, which was a non-conference game and a complete aberration as we later found out).

  13. I'm sure most of you re-watched the Auburn victory recently, so the 2007 team is fresh in your mind.

What do you think happens if the current team goes up against the 2007 team?

Personally, I think the 2015 team has a better offense, while the 2007 had a better defense. 2015 has a better kicker while 2007 had the better punter.

It would be really close, maybe down to the last play. But I think the better defense wins; 2007 wins the game.

Are we talking 2007 defensive rules or 2015 defensive rules?  If there is no targeting and you are allowed to hit hard again, I'll take the '07 defense with Wally Burnham to destroy every gap of our read option offense.
