  1. Jimmy was not a basketball bust he was an athletic kid that Seth loved that is it he wasnt a very good shooter or ball handler.  He was able to stay on the floor because of his athletic ability not his basketball talents.

In nutshell that describes Jimmy Baxter's 31/2 year career at USF.

Seth was all about recruiting athletes to play basketball. The difference with CRM is that he is recruiting basketball players first.

  2. Actually, ignorant Chokee Fan, this is Boston's SIXTH World Championship.

So we only need 20 more to match the Yankees, not two dozen.   ;D

It's funny how Chokee fans are so quick to bring up 26 World Series titles, most which were won before they were even squirts in their daddy's undies, yet they conveniently forget that Boston won five of the first 10.

We forgive you though.  Thanks for choking!

Eighty six years of not winning anything proves that this is a fluke. Moreover, the team is going to be broken apart which is too bad b/c we liked beating up on Pedro. She has always been very good to us.

  3. Oh Brother, they just won the championship, they do not still suck, they have proven they are the best team in the league.  Statements like that are why I hate the Yankees and also hate their fans, stay in New York please don't infect the rest of the country with such poor sportsmanship

It's one of the best rivalries in sports....deal with it. If both teams were buddy-buddy do you think it would of got the ratings and interest it attracted this year?

Boston winning the World Series is a fluke. Other than the colosal choke job by Rivera teams that are down 0-3 in LCS don't come back and win. I'll give credit to the Redsox for coming back but 9 times out of 10, the events that transpired this year don't happen.

Oh btw, the reason people don't like the Yankees is b/c they win. Everything else is an excuse b/c most fans would love for their team to be in the mix of things every year. Please save me the $200-million salary comebacks b/c the RedSox's payroll is just as high.

  4. The flip side of that coin is, why would Kraky leave USF if he had any chance of playing? Most likely he saw the writing on the wall that either he wasn't good enough to unseat Banks/Julmiste, or wasn't going to be given a fair chance to do so.

Clearly our coaching staff wasn't high on Evan Kraky. Which of course is not to assume that their perception was correct. Be interesting to see if he ever plays at UMass. So far he hasn't, but they had two established QBs and Kraky is still only a sophomore.

The whole Kraky thing was kind of strange from the onset.

First his stock dropped like a rock during his senior year despite being invited to several prestigious preseason QB camps and post season all star games.

Then he gets hurt and instead of staying in town to absorb the offense he elects to return home to Western PA to rehab.

He then returns for the Spring Semester and gets some praise from CJL. The next thing we know is that he is transfering back home.

My take is that it was more than just football that drove him back up north.

For me at least it would of been nice to at least have a third QB option. We must be the only program in C-USA that does not have a legitimate 3-deep QB rotation. Kraky couldn't have been any worse than .....David Mullins or the Servino kid from Jesuit....right?

  5. Well.....I never thought we would win more than 6 games this year. I said this last year b/c Banks was terrible and PJ didn't flash enough potential like Blackwell did during his rookie campaign to make us optimistic about the future.

Next year is not going to be any better. The schedule get tougher and we will have to play at least three games in the cold weather venues of the Big East. We are graduating some good OL people and we will probably be breaking in a rookie QB.

Denson is the wild card but if we change offenses with a new offensive coaches all bets are off.

CJL has some serious recruiting to do the next two years on the offensive side of the ball.

    ......

Hey BigMatt: good job on the story, although I won't laugh too loud at Javon Camon being a player of the game nominee. I bet you he had more missed tackles than tackles made.  ;D

  6. Someone brought this up on another thread, but Kraky has got to be kicking himself for not sticking around another year. At worst if it didn't work out he could of still transfered to DI-AA and wouldn't lose a year of eligibility.

I am not saying that Kraky would of been our savior but he was the only player who was a legitimate QB in high school. We never found out why he dropped from a 5-star quality recruit to no scholarship offers but based on his high school record he was a very accurate passer.

Considering how a weak armed QBs from Army and UL tore up our secondary, Kraky couldn't have been any worse than PJ or Banks.

  7. One more thing...I never said the current Bulls are world beaters.  They are gonna take some lumps this yr.  Its not to much to ask for the fans that have pretty much had a great run for the first 7 yrs of our teams existence to stand behind them.  Remember almost beating Ga Southern in the Ole Sombrero.  I still get chills thinking about it?  Fireworks after the KY Wesleyan make me shudder too.

The only smart people live in Riverview  ;D

  8. I'm starting to get pretty sick of these people who say that those of us who critize this team where we see problems are sophomoric.  Optomist like to call us pessimist but I prefer realist.  This team has a lot of problems right now, are we not supposed to discuss them, are we not supposed to propose solutions, are we just suppose to sit back and talk about how good things were to this point cause if we don't we will be accused of not being "real fans" whatever that means.  I would think anybody who takes the time to post here, whether its a good or bad post is a "real fan" or else they wouldn't take the time to do it.

I'm also a real big believer that "sunk costs" have nothign to do with your outlook for the future.  Its not what you done, or even what have you done for me lately, its what will you be able to do? that counts.  If you people who like to critiise  those of us who evaluate this team with a critical eye take a look at Penn State, they say their coach has earned the right to coach till he says no more, as a reslut he is leading them into the realm of mediocrity.  They are a shadow of what they once were and just because their coach is a legend it doesn't mean he can compete in college football in 2004, the game changes and evolves just like anything else, Jo Pa hasn't moved with it and now his team suffers and its excused because ofwhat he once was.  There are a lot of people on this board who share in that same sort nostiligia and claim that just because JL has gotten us to this point he gets a free pass.  Because our O is struggling its not Hobbie's fault, well if its not theirs than who's.

Personally I'm not ready to cut of JL's head, I think we have a young team that needs time to develop but it does get frustrating after all of last season and all of this season watching this team regress.  To be okay with that I think is folley, that's not how progress is made.  You have to want to get better you have to want to fix your problems and you have to work to do so, what I have seen thus far is no effort toward fixing those problems.  Maybe its the QB or coaching or inexperience or whatever but I'm not gonna just take a downturn in stride and say its okay we've done good till now, I will look at it critically and see if I can discet the problem.  The I will put my analysis out there and see who buys it and who doesn't.  I thought thats what these boards were for.  But accoridng to some of you, I guess not.

I am all for intelligent discussion but when you have fans that flat out want to fire the head coach during what is obviously a rebuilding year, they are hard to take seriously.

Some of these fans have it all wrong. They think we have been "world beaters". That is simply not true. We have distinguished ourselves from programs like UCF by winning the games we were supposed to win on paper  and winning a few games we should have not.

Leavitt has gotten the maximum of the talent he has been able to talk into coming to USF and training in what used to be a small, dank 3,500 sq-ft faciity. Eventually the good luck was going to run out.

However, guess what....CJL finally has the tools to recruit players. That is, he got a reasonable (not great) long term contract, he finally got real facilities but most importantly he can now recruit with a BCS calling card.

The bottom line for me and any right thinking fan is the we need to see what he can do with all the new resources before firing him prematurely or conversly making him out to be our "bobby bowden".

Finally, I take issue with people taking a shot at the man who has litterally and figuratively given all to USF Football. That lack of respect rubs me as a fan the wrong way. Some of our fans need a dose of reality.

  9. there was nothing in order last night

penalties were down but our ol couldn't  create a hole

and on defense UL gained yards with no effort

    have no fear

if we ever get in  a  close game again our undisciplined boys will commit stupid penalties again i have no doubt

    we are poorly coached

smazza are you really a football coach or is the smog getting to you?

Professional teams have a hard time establishing a running game when defenses crowd 8 or sometimes 9 in the box.

The only way to offset that is to make them pay downfield and we know that is impossible. Perhaps we should pay Julmiss NOT to play.

Coaching? Offensive playing calling was average at best but the real problem was talent. UL has 3 monster RBs and two great QBs.

UL's defense is average and if would caught the ball the few times it was thrown anywhere near its intended receiver we could of made some plays on the Cards.

We got outcoached against Army b/c theirs adjustment worked better than ours. However, Leavitt has not options other than Ronnie Banks at QB and on defense....do you really gain anything by replacing a starter with a newbie freshmen?

  10. Leagues apart?

No not really. UL is just better than us RIGHT NOW. We are very young on defense and that was how we used to win games anyway. Fixing the defense is easier than figuring out what to d on offense, so I don't think it will be very long before we are back on track.

I guess you forgot how we matched Louisville play for play last year and that we actually beat them. That was essentially the same UL team. USF on the other hand lost 3/4 of its secondary and is playing too many other freshmen at key positions to be successful. The biggest difference is at QB we have nobody as good as UL's third stringer on our roster.

That I will admit is JL's fault. He should of at least taken a JUCO or transfer when he failed to sign the big names we were after the last couple of years.

We obviously have some work to do but I'll take my chances with JL for another couple of years to see if he can continue growing the program. However, it wouldn't hurt my feelings made a few changes in scheme or we tweaked the coaching staff.

  11. Wow no sooner did I finish that last post, and Cyberbull once again reinforced my point.  Now we are "yahoos" just because we have a difference of opinion.

Criticism is one thing, calling for the man's job while he is trying to rebuild is another. If you cannot recognize the difference then I can't help you.

In case you haven't noticed we are in the middle of another transition or rebuilding stage. Different words same thing....

Many of you are letting emotion cloud your judgement b/c you obviously have not thought things through.

Let's just say we do get rid of JL....who do we bring in and how do we pay him? I can guarantee its a whole lot more than we are paying our current staff. Going rate for a quality BCS is $1.2 million plus...

Secondly, how much do we pay his staff?

If you need an answer look no further than our friends in Oviedo.

Third, are your prepared to sacrifice the in roads we have made in recruiting? Because a new staff has to start from scratch. Once again look north toward OViedo.

Finally, how long does it take for a new coach to bring in his kind of players, implement his system and start winning?

A natural follow up question is how long before the same people  that are calling for CJL's job right now will be the same one's calling for the new guys head in two years?

BTW, who do you guys suggest our next coach should be ....Jesus Christ? Does the next coach have to be perfect like him? I am just curious since some of you guys act surprised that CJL has actually made some bad decisions. What were you expecting.....perfection?

  12. Actually, we've lost three games -- two of which we should have won.  We also lost games last year that we should have one -- UAB comes to mind.

I think CJL deserves to stay, but he is not perfect.  He can only do so much, which is why he relies on his assistant coaches to carry a lot of the load... Finding the right mix of coaches is the same as finding the right mix of athletes...

People on this thread are saying that CJL deserves all the credit for past successes BUT deserves none of the blame for the current failures.  That is a problem for me.

I believe CJL can prepare us for success - this year and in the Big East - but I think he needs to re-examine his staff decisions.

Perhaps we are simply finding out that CJL has feet of clay.

No....we only lost ONE game on Saturday. They don't add a couple extra games to the loss column and take away our charter for losing to Army.

Look I have been critical of some of his decisions but with the track record he put together at USF he deserves the benefit of the doubt. Instead we have these "yahoos" that can't wait to send him packing after a couple of games.

He deserves our loyalty and support b/c I doubt USF football would be where its at without him at the helm.

Another thing that people forget is the impact of making about making wholesale changes in the coaching staff. Many people are forgetting that unlike pro football, our coaches moonlight as salesmens of USF football. Many of the coaches have been mentioned have been key in recruiting players in the Broward-Dade, Tampa Bay and Panhandle. If we axe these guys now or even after the season we have effectively given up the in roads we have made in these recruiting rich areas.

In addition, you have to think of the ramifications on our current players and I'll just leave it at that...

  13. What is there to discuss?

    We lost one game.

If this is still happening in two years then we can discuss a change until then there is no reason to believe that Leavitt will not continue to grow this program.

You guys are funny, one bad loss and you are ready to jump off the skyway. Let me fill you in on a little secret, until we can have two or three bluechippers at evey position these high and low cycles are going to continue. All programs go through them except for the very elite and even then they have bad losses.

    Thanks for the laughs...

  14. CyberBull... welcome to 1/1000th of what's it's like to be a Red Sox fan.

    LastKnight... thanks for the congrats.

Smazza... WHAT'S UP NOW, BEYOTCH?   ;D

    BW

I could never be a RedSox fan b/c I would have to give up baseball.

Army, Rams and now this.....bitter.....ahhh nevermind.
