  1. Right now, we don't offer a whole lot attractive to any P conference.  They can afford to take their time being picky.  We seem to be falling for the Fundamental Attribution Error.  It essentially notes that "If my team gets promoted to P status, it is because they did it due to internal causes (they wanted it more, worked harder, are more talented, recruited better, etc.), but if my team does not get promoted, it is due to external causes (ESPN hates us, ____ University is blocking us, we don't have an OCS, prior President didn't prioritize it, etc.)

    Those with an internal locus of control will most times perform better because they focus on what they have power over.  That means working hard enough, recruiting well,  coaching better, and finally, winning.  AAU status, OCS, our market, palm trees - are external variables and none of that is going to get us promoted.  Only one thing will - winning.  Yes, we started to possibly turn a corner.  But if we want to be courted and not just hope against hope that a P teams leaves their conference and we can be the best nerd picked in gym class to replace them, one season isn't going to do it.  It needs to be a trend.  I cringe when posters rest their hopes on someone leaving and we being the least undesirable team to fill that spot.  I believe we will earn it by winning to the extent that it would look ridiculous to be left out.  Backing in doesn't engender a whole lot of pride in me.

    Right now, we offer potential.  That puts us in a large group.  I believe that Coach will make us desirable enough in time.  But I don't think a conference is going to offer us millions and millions solely because they would like another team to have a "travel partner" or whatever that means.

  2. The IPF was an investment that was necessary, and it was no small thing investment-wise.  It will increase our chances of winning and therefore conference realignment.  Where we play will not.  Look, I love the idea that we will play on campus and students will be able to walk to the game.  I will be proud and I contributed to it.  And, honestly, and I'm not trying to set up a false dichotomy, but winning is light years ahead of an OCS in terms of importance for conference realignment, if an OCS is even a criterion for realignment and no one has been able to prove it is.

    OCS - desirable, but not sufficient

    Winning - sufficient

    The slowest guy on a track team looks around and thinks, "Man, these guys have their own brand new expensive track shoes and I'm trying to compete with borrowed  shoes.  If I had their shoes I could beat them and a better school will want me to run for them!"  But he is still the slowest guy on the team and the shoes never had anything to do with it and no one is recruiting him even with his brand new shoes.

    Winning = needs

    OCS = wants

    So glad they scored and then kept scoring. Certain older coaches of ours would have definitely let up and just tried coasting to a win.

    You can tell Golesh knew how important this game was. It wasn't just a bowl win. It was a statement that USF is coming back. I loved seeing it.

    Also, it was for his players who were playing their last game as a Bull after winning four games in their USF careers.  He gave them the best gift and memory that he could.  He played the depth players and let them make memories and brags, too.  Class act.

  4. I am so good at this that I had us winning only three games this year.  That being said, I'll venture a ten to nine win season next year (being ranked at the end of the season).  We have the coach, QB, WRs and our defense has shown that it can rise to the occasion.  Coach is building a strong foundation with HS recruits, so I would say that the year after will go down in the history books for USF.

    45-0.
    First SU shutout in SU history in a bowl game.
    First SU shutout since? 2005 against USF.
    Their stud running back had 21 carries 0 yards.
    USF moves to 9-2 against SU all time with the closest win being 14 points
    USF averages 36 points a game against SU vs SU’s 15.
    391 points to 164.
    They moved to 9-2 with SU’s two wins being by a combined 5 points.
    Brown would’ve been their leading reciever, rusher and third in receiving yards.
    We had a defensive TD, special teams TD, a passing TD and a rushing TD. Worst loss in ACC bowl history.
    Largest shutout victory in bowl history. USF dominates SU like no group of 5 time has ever dominated a power 5 school.
    Moral of it? USF is SU’s daddy (I live in cuse as a USF fan)

    Good rundown, Owen.  I met my wife at Oswego St. back in the seventies.  Love that area of the state.

    Our reader imagines if Syracuse University and The Onondaga Nation collectively influenced Syracuse's nickname. Continue reading →

    In 1931, based on a campus connection with the Onondaga Nation, Syracuse University adopted the Orangemen nickname and Saltine Warrior logo. In the 1950s the Lambda Chi Alpha fraternity added a human Indian mascot to the mix.

    That scenario lasted until the 1970s when concerns were first raised about the manner in which the Onondagan culture was being (mis)represented by the logo and mascot. In 1978 a pow wow between the Onondagans, the fraternity and the university resulted in the termination of the logo and the mascot. The nickname lived on until 2005 when it was officially shortened to just “Orange.”

    So, Orange must refer to the skin color of the native population in NY history.
