  1. Day One Of BIG EAST Softball Championship Canceled  Courtesy: USF Release: 05/11/2006 SOUTH BEND, Ind. (May 11, 2006) – The BIG EAST Conference announced today that day one of the Softball Championship held in South Bend, Ind., is canceled due to inclement weather. Four games were to have taken place at 10 a.m., 12:30 p.m., 4 p.m. and 6:30 p.m. on Thursday, but due to rain and gusting winds the day’s events were canceled. The BIG EAST will announce later today the revised schedule for the remainder of the tournament. The BIG EAST Championship has a built in rain day to make up games, which is scheduled for Sunday, May 14. I guess we are going to have to wait until tomorrow to kick butt... http://www.gousfbulls.com/ViewArticle.dbml?DB_OEM_ID=7700&ATCLID=275748
  2. I wish him the best...He is one of the greatest gentleman to ever play for USF and is clearly an example of when bad things happen to good people...
  3. Wait a second, that stadium was packed that night...I talked to a friend of mine that goes to UM and he said that they never have crowds that big unless its UF or FSU, but he said a lot more people come to their night games than their typical day games...
  4. Thats what Im saying, everyone has been bashing this guy when he has done nothing but good for this school...
  5. Same here, just I think fewer people would show up on Sunday night to a home game, sad but true...
  6. USF's Thiel Steps Down As Coach Published: May 9, 2006 TAMPA - University of South Florida track and cross country coach Greg Thiel resigned to become athletic director at The Cambridge School, a Class 1A private school in Tampa. Thiel, 48, had been at USF 16 years, the past six as head coach. Thiel's final day at USF will be June 12. ''My faith and my family were the biggest reasons,'' Thiel said. ''I love USF, I started this program with [former USF coach Bob] Braman. But I've got two girls [Logan and Sophie] and I don't see them. It's the nature of the beast as a cross country and track coach. ''I didn't want to look back 15 years with my own children and have them not be a part of my life because I wasn't a part of theirs.'' Scott Thompson, who resigned as USF's director of men's basketball operations last month, will be an assistant AD at Cambridge. Thiel coached 17 All-Americans and 60 conference champions at USF. He was named Conference USA's 2003 women's coach of the year after guiding the Bulls to the 2003 outdoor title. USF assistant Warren Bye has been named interim coach.
  7. I have to agree, there is NO reason to build a stadium when we cant sell out the lower bowl without help from opposing teams, until we can, we should pay, but I dont think they should increase the rent, plus I thought in the article that it was only 3000 parking spots not 30,000. But I just think the TSA can cut us a little bit of a break, but business is business...
  8. Luckily its an away game and not a home game, EVERYONE should be thankful for that, unless of course you are going to make that trip, then it will be a long Monday...
  9. Just incase anyone was wondering how Justin did this past weekend, this is an article written in our hometown paper... Daniel gets a shot with Lions Dennis Maffezzoli Last year, when he received an invitation to attend a New York Giants mini-camp, Justin Daniel told everyone about it. However, because of some snafu, Daniel never participated -- "That left a bitter taste," he said. This year, when the Detroit Lions invited the former Charlotte High and University of South Florida standout to camp, Daniel kept it hush-hush. A long snapper, Daniel received good vibes after returning from the Lions' three-day mini-camp in Allen Park, Mich. "I did all right," he said Monday. "Pretty good." The invite came by chance. Daniel was snapping for South Florida punter Brandon Baker, who was performing for Detroit scouts. They noticed Daniel in the process. "I was surprised it actually happened," Daniel said. He departed Thursday, worked out for three days and returned to Tampa on Sunday afternoon. The experience was pleasant on a number of fronts. First, the Lions didn't overwork their campers. In addition, the coaches, especially special teams coach Chuck Priefer and assistant Stan Kwan, provided instruction and helpful hints. "They would tell you what you were doing right and what you needed to work on," said Daniel, who was informed he needed to work on consistency. "Talking to the coaches was like talking to your friend." Daniel didn't know if the experience with Detroit would lead to a contract with the Lions; however, the Lions' coaches did say that if another team was looking for a long snapper, they would pass along his name. In a way, Daniel was on audition not only for the Lions, but the other 31 NFL teams. "That's the way I looked at it," he said. "It was a learning experience." Since graduating from South Florida last year, Daniel remained with the team as a graduate assistant, working with the long snappers and special teams players. It also was a way for him to stay in shape and eventually get noticed by the Lions. http://www.heraldtribune.com/apps/pbcs.dll/article?AID=/20060509/COLUMNIST37/605090495/-1/COLUMNIST
  10. Im too lazy to look it up, but I think he might not have even had a tackle against us...but again I could be wrong...but Dumerville is a first class player and I hope he makes it in the pros...
  11. Another player who drew attention at the camp was undrafted rookie free agent guard Frank Davis out of South Florida. Marinelli even grouped Davis in with Matua and Scott when talking about players who could earn a spot on the offensive line this season. "[Davis is a] big, athletic man,†said Marinelli. “He comes in with a lot of pass-blocking background. Really I think movement-wise, the biggest thing is to just see what kind of run-blocker he can be. You can see him, he's 329 pounds; he's a big strong man and raw - which all of these guys will be." http://www.detroitlions.com/document_display.cfm?document_id=444971
  12. Sure thing, Im hoping to get a call from him tonight...
  13. Final: 9-3 with a total of 6 hits... Also, due to weather concerns for Sunday, they are going to play a double header tomorrow...
  14. We were suppose to be number 3 in the BE in preseason selection...now we did lose one of our star pitcher, which would surely make a difference, just not that much of a difference...it just seems like some players are just kind of there, but not into the game, no intensity, they just seem to be going through the motions...
  15. Im his sister...and I think the last I heard Ryan Benjamin was working somewhere here in the area, but Im not 100% sure...
  16. USF Not Keeping Elifson By BRETT McMURPHY bmcmurphy@tampatrib.com Published: May 5, 2006 TAMPA - University of South Florida associate women's basketball coach Harry Elifson, who played a big role in signing the best player in program history, will not return after his contract was not renewed by Coach Jose Fernandez on Thursday. Elifson, 43, had been at USF the past six seasons. "Since I've been at USF, we've gone from four wins to the NCAA Tournament," Elifson said. "I - and I don't like to use the word I - recruited a lot of players that were here. To say I'll miss the kids is an understatement." Fernandez refused to comment. "The head coach wants to go in a different direction," USF assistant AD Barry Clements said. "That's his call." Elifson came to USF in 2000 after winning two state titles in 11 seasons at Boca Ciega. "I'm definitely going to miss Coach E. He was the one that recruited me," said junior Jessica Dickson, who earned honorable mention All-America honors this season. "In high school I always looked in the stands and saw him in his vest. "He was so persistent. He's what helped draw me here." Incoming recruit Stephanie Sarosi, of Titusville Astronaut, was shocked by the news. "I don't know what to say," Sarosi said. "He was the one that got me to USF." With Elifson, who was Fernandez's recruiting coordinator from 2002-05, USF signed three top-40 recruiting classes. Last season's NCAA Tournament berth was the first in program history. Elifson said he wasn't given a reason for his termination.
  17. I dont know why he didnt mention how excited his siblings were! But right now, like he said, its all about being seen. Hes really happy to have another chance and thank god Frank is up there with him and hopefully he will see his former roomate Levi...Ill let you guys know whats happening whenever he calls...Thanks to everyone for your support!
  18. If that happens, I would advise Erickson to go somewhere else...but that should not happen...
  19. Didnt knowif anyone posted this yet, but found this kind of odd, considering he is probablly one of our best recruiters and it is very vague... USF Assistant Coach Harry Elifson Doesn’t Have Contract Renewed Courtesy: USF Release: 05/04/2006 Tampa, FL (May 4, 2006) – University of South Florida head women’s basketball coach Jose Fernandez announced today that assistant coach Harry Elifson will not have his contract renewed.
  20. Yah, he was suppose to workout for the Giants last year and they pulled the mini camp offer off the table, so hes been a Student assistant this past year helping out with the LS and Special Teams...
  21. Sorry guys, didnt think free tickets were that bad...but we do need to travel outside the USF area and promote something...I dont know Im not a marketing guru, but something better at half time or better promotions at the game rather than the father son car push race or whatever it is...I DONT KNOW...lol just we need to come up with something...Common sense would say that being the BE would increase ticket sales, and they really havent...
  22. How is a bowl in Houston not profitable?? It seems like a great city to have a bowl in and plus they play in the Texans stadium dont they?? I cant imagine how BIRMINGHAM and LEIGONS FIELD can get a bowl game and possibly produce more revenue than Houston...
  23. I know we have something drawn up, Ive seen it around a couple of times, but again there isnt an actual set date of when it will start and when it will be finished for upgrades around the athletic facilities...as for increase in budget and all of the other stuff, I dont think we have any of that planned out...we are taking little baby steps, but at least they are steps...
