  1. This past week there was an article in my local newspaper, the Fort Lauderdale Sun-Sentinel, about Brent Schaeffer. The article stated that the U. of Tennessee QB will transfer after spring practice if he does not beat out Erik Ainge for starting QB next season. There was no mention as to where he may transfer. I know we were one of his final college choices out of Deerfield Beach High School along with NC State and Auburn. Hopefully, he will seriously consider making the right choice now by becoming a USF Bull.
  2. 1.Steve Mazza-My friend and co-manager of the Basketbulls in the mid-1970's. 2. Steve Stanford-A backup center in the mid-1970's. He claimed he was seven feet tall. He was a 6'11' klutz but a nice guy. I'm sure you remember him, SMazza. 3.Rob Frohman-A backup forward on the first varsity basketbull team in 1971-72. 4.Tommy Davis-One of our starting guards on the first varsity basketbull team. He shot his free throws with a jump shot 5.Bill Lear-He was the very first basketbull recruit we signed back in 1971.
  3. Browsing the shelves of magazines at my local Barnes and Noble last night, I spied Lindy's Magazine College Football Preview Issue. It is called the Southeast edition. Our Bulls are picked to finish seventh in C-USA this upcoming season and are rated the 75th best team out of 117. I was shocked to see a preview magazine out so early. They said we will be lucky to finish above .500 (meaning 6-5).
  4. I first set foot on the USF campus in September of 1969. At that time, homecoming was centered around soccer. The only other athletic teams we had were baseball, swimming, tennis, and golf. In the fall of 1970 our basketbull program bagan with a JV mens team. We played other JV teams around our state as well as junior college teams. I attended our first game at Curtis Hixon Hall against UF. We won by about ten points. The team went 19-7 if I remember correctly. I became a manager of the first varsity team in 1971 and worked with Steve Mazza several years later with the Golden Brahmans. I guess I will always be a little partial to the basketbulls but surely love the footbulls as well.
