  1. What I found the most interesting about the Hill update is that Miami HAS in fact offered him a scholarship and, yet, we are the only school he ranked as HIGH.

At the least it shows we are still really in the running to get him, and I think he will be very impressed with USF on his official visit, by not only the school but by the quality of the recruits who ALSO will be attending that weekend.

He will realize that there are a number of other top players seriously considering USF and that should make him feel even more comfortable with us.

Miami can rescind a scholarship offer.

  2. No way.  He's already committed and they've accepted his commitment.  UM would be crazy not to honor the commitment of Spencer Atkins- he's special.  However, Miami's small alotment of available scholarships might be just want the doctor ordered for USF to sign Richard Gordon, Carlton Hill, and Randy Phillips.  Especially after they also secure commitments from Murdock, Kenny Phillips, Neefy Moffett, Barney, Martellus Bennett, and Antone Smith.  All six favor UM, and UM would be crazy to turn them down in lieu of the recruits I mentioned they were battling USF for their services.   Those six, plus three others that signed last year but are late enrollees would put UM at 20 scholarships if Phillips, and Houston left.

Richard Gordon is special like Adkins is.  However, his 770 SAT score is what keeps him flying low.  Miami is gonna have one star studded signing class.  Also as far as C Hill goes, Miami is dreadfully short on QB's.  They'll probably sign him.

  3. I think Freak is right.  I am sure this is what precluded us from taking TJ since we already had one in Buie.   The coaches had 2-3 to choose from in this class- Buie, TJ, and Kearse, but appeared to opt for the best, and highly ranked player of the bunch.   If I recall USF can only take like 1 every two years, and have a total of two on the roster.  Don't quote me but it's pretty stringent.  One of the previous non-quals is graduating- Battle I believe, and thus making room for Buie.

Now Marshall on the other hand seems to govern by some out of this world rule for non-qualifiers.  They had like four this last year alone- two from Clearwater.

I think it is a max of two.  Last one for us was TE Michael Gaines?  You'd think the NCAA would pass a limit on how many of these non qualifiers you can have.  If they don't qualify, but you can sign them anyways then what is the point?

  4. Avril Monroe, Spencer Atkins (that's right, Atkins), and don't count us out for a few other big namer.  We'll probably grab two for depth and insurance.

Well you made this prediction a long time ago so I'll let it go.  But what info did you have to think you had a shot with Adkins?  He's a Miami commit now btw.

  5. Not my check, my opinion you fool.   My check definitely carries weight, but my opinion far outweighs whatever psycho melodrama you're trying to create on this board.

You have a rivals subscription don't you?  THat's not psycho melodrama.  They are very clear words given by the young man in question.

  6. Sometimes, I wonder if recruits that are on the bubble at other programs issue a verbal to see if they can get another school to commit.

They absolutely do.   But you could also say the coaches try to get a kid to commit even though they know he won't qualify or actually stick just so they can trump up the program to other recruits.

  7. Last minute decision this afternoon to take my son to the UCF-Ohio game.  We had always wanted to see the citrus bowl and I wanted to see what a UCF game was like.

No flame to our UCF buds, but Yikes - the citrus bowl is pretty much a dump.  I was shocked that they play a major new years day bowl in that hole.  No chairbacks anywhere, real tight room between seats, awful concessions and rust/paint peeling everywhere.  After a while I realized that maybe we are just REALLY spoiled with RayJay.

On the positive side, I must give the UCF students major props - they were out in force and everyone of them really into the game with organized cheers, knowing when to be loud and when to be quiet, etc.  The other really nice thing was a major stats board that scrolled the entire game with up to the second stats on every aspect of the game - rushing by player, receiving by player, passing, TOP, etc.

And finally, Congrats to Bobcat99 - Ohio won 17-16 in the first overtime because UCF missed an extra point.

BTW, I would guess there was maybe 17-18,000 there and it was their homecoming.

Close guess. It was 20.5K.  The students know how to have a good time for sure.

Yeah I can see how the CB is a dump.  The trough urinals with rust all over them.  However, it's not nearly as bad as some teams have it.  And we pay a heck of a lot less rent on that facility than you guys pay at RayJay.

  8. You fans know I am not often wrong about this, but I will say that I am pretty sure Hill will be a Bull.

Leave it at that....Miami has 5 commits that are waivering, UF everyone, UGA the same....it doesn't matter because in BIG TIME BCS FOOTBALL recruits are not off limits when they commit.  These guys get woed all the time, but in the end the stats show that nearly 80% of early commits stick with their original commit.

WHY you ask, well its because that early commit was usually made for all the RIGHT reasons, not based on some last ditched effort by other schools to promise the moon, or to give him three extra lobsters on his recruiting visit.  After sitting down and removing themselves from the hoopla most kids remember this.

P.S. this is not what I am going off of on the Hill promise.

Did you read his comments on Rivals?

What are you gonna do?  Send him a personal check?

  9. LSU, Michigan, Nebraska, South Carolina all like to play 8 home games per year.  And that's not gonna change.  Mississippi State will NOT take the chance of getting beaten by USF.  Oregon State is the only team that may entertain an offer.

BCS teams that have a possible away opening in 2005:

    Team (current scheduled games)

    LSU (10 games, 4 away)

    Michigan (10 games, 4 away)

Mississippi State (9 games, 4 away)

    Missouri (10 games, 4 away)

    Nebraska (9 games, 4 away)

Oregon State (9 games, 4 away)

South Carolina (10 games, 4 away)

  10. It is good to see that players are interested in committing to us so early.  STK can spin it any way he wants, but the truth is that the combination of hard work and a BCS conference is making us a more attractive school for student athletes.  Now we just need to work on our academic image, but since it is an image issue rather than a substantive problem, that will sort itself out in the next few years.

Good luck.  It's hard to get that party school image going.  But we finally achieved it at UCF.  Pass the beer bong.  Woohoo!
