  1. Ultimately, tickets sold represents the strength of support for a team.

There are a lot of reasons why people who buy tickets don't show up to games... losing, weather, mid-week (see USF @ UAB last year), individual reasons (kids, sick, travel, work, etc), the level of the opponent, etc.

I think it makes more sense to count the number of tickets sold when determining if a university has the financial support to remain a I-A team... after all, we are talking about the Almight Dollar here - the idol worshipped by NCAA institutions.

It seems to me that rule applies like this:

    1) An average of 15,000 butts in the seats factored over a two-year period (which means anywhere from 10-12-14 games).

    2) An average of 15,000 tickets sold for home games in a one-year period.

That is the way I would interpret the I-A rules... but that's just me... I ain't a lawyer, and I certainly ain't on the NCAA committee that determines these things.  Just pointing out one of the many possible ways to read this.

Agreed.  The only problem with that is the following scenario.  Eastern Michigan realizes they're not selling 15000 tickets at $17 a piece no matter which way they cut it.  SO, they call up the local chamber of commerce representative and say, "How would you like to buy 6000 tickets for $1 a piece?  You can give them to the local auto dealerships, movie theaters, whatever."  Even though EMU now has 15K paid attendance, it's not really paid attendance.  Maybe I missed a clause to catch this, but enforcing the clause will be difficult as well.

  2. The center of it all is from VolQuest's article where they insinuated the following:

Schaeffer made news most recently for getting into a fight at Clement Hall in the early morning hours of Sunday. Schaeffer had also made off the field news for his struggles in the classroom particularly with attending classes as well as being repeatedly late for meetings, and missing meetings.

Now here's where it doesn't make a bit of sense.  First, Brent came to UT and was the starter, he was on the sideline all year after his injury right next to the OC and Fulmer.  Once spring practice started he was running with the #1's at QB, and partially at receiver and returner.  No one ever insinuated a grade issue, and missing meetings until AFTER the kid has decided to transfer.

Weird, for a kid that has so much trouble with school he was getting good grades, and is finishing out the semester.  Furthermore, if this kid was so troublesome about meeting then why in the hell does he immediately start spring practice as the #1B QB?   Odd, you'd expect an immediate demotion.  Could it have been that as the spring wore on and Phil Foolmer subtly tried to work Brent with the KR's, and receivers, and slowly gave Ainge and even Clausen more reps with the #1's then Brent that maybe Brent started questioning the motives, and possibly his attitude changed a bit.  Quit have been after Brent told Phil the first time in the middle of spring practice about his desire to transfer and Foolmer told him to stick it out-- odd from a guy that's such a troublemaker.

It wasn't until this incident, which was after he was expected to announce a transfer, that suddenly people from Knoxville try to villify this kid.

Most schools keep a guy as the #1B QB heading into the spring when they're troublemakers-- yeah right Foolmer.

Interesting point. Mo Clarett the sequel.

  3. Hall's only knock will be his 40 time.  You know how much the league puts emphasis on workouts.  Hall runs around a 4.6.  This alone will cause him to be a mid round pick.  Despite the fact he has excellent vision, cutting, and great work ethic and attitude.

I'm generally critical of all things Bull.  However, Hall is actually pretty good.  I'm surprised at his forty time.  He looked very quick in the games I saw on TV.

  4. Another instance of UCFer opinion not matching reality. Below are the key passing and rushing stats for each QB. Show me how Moffet is "far and away better than Julmiste."

If anything Julmiste is the better runner and has a better nose for the endzone.

NAME                        CMP   ATT   YDS   CMP%   YDS/A    TD   INT   RAT

    Steven Moffett       147     229   1721   64.2      7.52       9    10    131.6

    Pat Julmiste           118     247   1570   47.8      6.36       7      8    104.0

NAME                        CAR     YDS     YPC     LONG        TD

    Steven Moffett         107       6       0.1        31(TD)   2

    Pat Julmiste               96     193     2.0        23          9

Are you really this dull?  I'll show you how Moffet is far and away better than PJ.  64% completion versus 47% completion.  And PJ had much better protection than Moffet had last year.  Like shooting fish in a barrel.  Here's a hint, try reading the stats you are posting.

  5. It would help if you had our actual WR'ing crew.

    Expected:

    Garris

    Peyton

    Chambers

    Hill

    Edwards

    Halliburton

    Green

Do you need to list walk-ons?  If you're going to talk WR's I think it needs to be based on actual production, and potential.  If you use that then Walker, and Marshall are the only ones that bring major starting experience and production with Turner is there as well.

USF brings Peyton, Green, Chambers, and Garris.  All four were starters last year.

    Now debate as you wish.

Yeah but the WR corps at USF was hampered by very bad QB play.  In fact, people made the excuse that when USF receivers dropped passes it was because they were shocked the ball actually made it to them.

  6. Guys I'm gonna be real surprised if you beat PSU.  They were much better than their record indicated.  JoePa has a very good chance of righting the ship once he puts Morelli in at QB.  Their defense was awesome last year.  They only struggled heavily on offense by trying to force a WR into the QB spot, sound familiar?  They will be tough.  Not only for USF but for quite a few teams.

  7. They're sliding scales, and I don't know ACT.  I thought 2.5 GPA needed an 820 SAT or something to that effect.  I don't have the incremental qualifications, and it should be had at the NCAA website.

I can understand the SAT sliding scale.  But they list a sum score for the ACT. It seems to move between 64 and 80 depending on GPA.  All the kids say scores like 16 thru 22.

  8. Really, maybe he should committed to UCF then he could get more stars.

Nope.  Rivals treats us the same way.  Their rankings are a joke.  They actually rank based on what schools are interested in signing a kid.  So if Jason Gwaltney had actually picked UCF and told the other schools no thanks, you would have seen him drop like a rock in their database.  However, Gwaltney would still be the same beast fo a tailback.

  9. I wont be suprised if USF out ranks both the NEW BIG EAST and C-USA once again this year. That will put USF at two top ranked classes going into the BIG EAST.

WVU looks to be having a big year.  They're at 37 right now.  3 stars aren't gonna move the pile.  You've got to get a 4 star HS kid.  And knowing how Rivals operates, the moment you sign Hill they're gonna drop him back to three stars.

  10. We are # 2 in the state in research and growing rapidly, continuing to widen the gap between USF and UCF.

By the way, this isn't a UF topic.  I know our place in relation to them and I don't bother starting pissing matches with them.  You should know your place in relation to us and not start pissing matches.

    Aren't you behind FSU too?

  11. knight_fan - I'm talking about how the State of Florida identified USF, UF and FSU as Tier 1 versus FIU, FAU, UCF, West Florida, etc as Tier 2.

We are suppose to have a heavier concentration on graduate studies while you are supposed to be concentrating on undergraduate.

Well isn't that convenient?  UF is well ahead of you in research and prestige.  Saying that you're tier 1 along with them makes it sound like you're equal with them.  But if you check out the US News rankings it will put it into a clearer perspective since there is a very large gap between the two of you.

  12. That's your MO, just like STK, you make wild, outlandish claims about what I state, then claim you can't find it.

Go check, if I made that statement then it was on one of these threads in the recruiting section.  Not hard to find bonehead because they're all relatively new.

The same old crap from you guys, claim I'm lying, with no evidence, just your selective memory to back it up.

By the way, as we've stated all along, and you tried to refute, which we have the proof, that UM wasn't offering him.  Guess what they've been offering him.  This is going to come down to Hill believing their crap about suddenly him being a QB, versus recruiting him as an athlete before.

UM's hard to ignore, and at this juncture USF must hope that are consistency, and constant promises of QB will win out over the luster of UM.

Screw that.  I'm not gonna track down the posts on this board.  I don't even know that you said it on this board.  It could be on the Piss Match Board.  And that thing moves at a hundred miles per hour.  I tried searching your posts via your profile.  You make like 50 posts every two days and if I pulled up your entire post list, it would probably kill Bulliever's server.  ;)

Fact is this board needs a better search feature so we can find old threads.  I'm not quite sure we know what you said at this point.  But if you didn't even provide a quote or link to the post, then I'm thinking that you're not even sure where it's at or exactly what you said.
