  1. Hey fool, I am sick of you half-truthing everything I say.  It wasn't just the limited scholarships it was also the fact Derek Shaw was committed.  On the other hand, Hill isn't the only QB they're pursuing, reports that they talked to Beck, and they still have Ryan Perrilloux coming for a visit.

We now get to see if our coaches can grab one from the big boys.

Whatever.  If you would post under your registered account more often, I coul d go back and check.  I'll take a look but I'm not hopeful we'll find that info.

  2. Its great to have Grothe, but with our talented receiver corp, i would think Hill's mouth would be watering to play QB for us... especially seeing that he very well could win the starting position.

Plus, i really doubt Leavitt is saying "You will start here"   he just doesn't say that.. .he says "You will have a chance to win the spot, just like everyone else".

Leavitt doesn't have to say anything.  Anybody who has seen your starting QB on tv can tell what's going on.  ;)

I know you're not satisifed with what you've got.

  3. I just don't know that it's a good way to convince a kid to play for you.

"Don't go there because you won't start.  You can start here."

You have to cut  your own throat to make that pitch.

Also, if Hill does start at Miami, think of the Line he'll be behind and the talented receivers he can throw the ball to.

I've looked at warchant, canesport, and gatorbait.  Those guys get who they want, period.

  4. yes Coker was coach... he was a QB but transferred because the coaches never game him a chance and he also threw the race card into the picture...  yeah sound like a good situation for a mobile, black QB....

im sure Carlton will have lots of competition at WR, he wont be taking serious snaps at QB

and at what point did I ignore or even bring up Grothe?

You didn't bring up Grothe.  That's why I'm saying you're ignoring him.  What if he's better than Hill?  Then Hill ends up going to WR as well.

  5. how much of a shot did Derek Crudup get at QB??

Was Coker the coach back then?  What position did Crudup end up going?

    Top athletes enjoy challenges also.

Why do you continue to ignore Grothe?

Here's another key.  Grothe is also in this class for USF.  Hill will now be the only QB signed at Miami this year.  That's pretty reassuring as well.

  6. knight_fan - What happened to Miami not offering Hill?  What happened to Hill not being a QB.  Guess you really didn't know what you were talking about a week or so ago.

I always though Hill could be a QB.  But it did appear as if the relationship had cooled somewhat because of the low number of schollies available, the high level of talent available this year, and that kid Shaw was commited as a QB.  Hill did say Shaw's decommitment had a slight impact on his decision.  But is it possible that Miami had made a head fake on him?  I'd have to say so.  Bien was really pimping the low number of scholarships as a possibility that he wasn't going to get offered.  I'm sorry for believing him.

But let's look at the situation.

USF gets a commitment because Miami doesn't communicate with Hill.

A letter from Coker that is handwritten goes to Hill's mailbox.

    Decommit.  Strong lean to Miami.

Commitments are filling in fast at Miami.

    Lean back to USF.

Shaw pulls out.  Hill will be the only QB signed this year.

    Strong lean to Miami.

    Who's in the driver's seat?

Miami can swoop in on any kid at any given moment and take him.

  7. Coker hasn't been the coach at UM for the last couple of decades.  With the success of Michael Vick, attitudes have changed.

Grothe is a fine QB.  Why worry.

Not only that, athletes like to challenge themselves.  Hill doesn't want to question his cojones for not trying to take the job at Miami out of fear of not being good enough.

  8. They've only got two quarterbacks on their roster.  They need depth immediately.  Two injuries and Hill is the starter.  The chances of an injury to a QB are always very high.  As the third QB option he'll already be on the travel squad as a freshman.  One injury and now he's the backup.  He'll get minutes as a freshman if an injury should occur.  He can run and throw which may end up being to his advantage.  The two QBs on roster aren't known for light feet.  He waffled on rivals again.  If you read his latest interview, you won't be pleased.  Still, Grothe is a good pick up.  He's gonna be your starter in no time.  Be happy.

  9. Another LB visiting USF [and UCF], Brent Davis from Mainlan HS. Rivals does not list him as interested in USF:

Pack Takes Lead for Florida LB

By Steve Williams Football Recruiting Analyst

    Date: Dec 29, 2004

LB Brent Davis has emerged as a major target of the NC State coaching staff.

NC State has landed one LB for the class of 2005 and has it’s sights set on adding at least one more in the coming weeks. A prime candidate for that spot is Brent Davis of Mainland High School in Daytona, Fl.

At 6-2, 200 pounds and boasting 4.5-second speed in the 40-yard dash, Davis may be somewhat undersized now but boasts the frame to add considerable size once he enters college. Some feel he also has the athleticism and ability to play strong safety as well. However, it was at LB this past year where Davis racked up better than 125 tackles, two interceptions and one forced fumble in helping lead Mainland to the fourth round of the state playoffs. Last year he recorded better than 100 tackles as the Bucs claimed a state title.

Several schools have taken notice of the all-area prospect’s talent as he’s collected scholarship offers from South Carolina, NC State, Purdue, UNC, Central Florida and South Florida. Davis made his first official visit earlier this month with the Wolfpack and it’s clear the trip made a huge impression.

"NC State was real nice," said Davis. "Another thing is my dad really likes the coaches and he liked the fact they didn’t pressure me. I mean, they want me to come there but they told me to just enjoy my other visits. They were my first visit but I really think they may have a little more to offer as far as football and educational opportunities."

Another school that has really turned up the heat recently is South Carolina. Rick Stockstill is recruiting Davis for the Gamecocks and the senior ‘backer is looking forward to a visit to Columbia on Jan 7.

"Coach Stockstill has been calling me a lot," said Davis. "You know, the coaches don’t say anything negative about other schools and he was saying NC State was nice but for me to come up there and see what they had to offer and how I liked it.

"I talked to coach Spurrier about two weeks ago and I told him how much of an honor it was to get to talk to him. I told him I never thought I’d be in a position to talk to someone like him."

In addition to the Pack and Gamecocks, Davis also plans visits to Central Florida and South Florida before making a decision later in January.

For now, Davis says NC State has set the bar for all future official visits.

"I would say NC State definitely stands out right now," he said. "Since I’ve taken that visit I know I’ve got something to compare the other schools to. You know, at first I was wanting to stay close to home but really, NC State or South Carolina aren’t too far. The thing with NC State is they had the nation’s No. 1 defense and that reminded me of Mainland’s defense because we were the best around here. And then, meeting with the coaches just made me feel like I was at home."

Looks like Darth Visor from South Carolina has won the battle.

  10. It looks like Nate Harris will not be enrolling at UL for the spring semester. He hasn't sent in his LOI to them. Talk on their message board says he will be visiting USF:

    http://louisville.rivals.com/showmsg.asp?fid=658&tid=45808572&sid=&style=2

Talk on their message board indicates a possible academic problem.  Maybe he can get in at USF but Louisville won't matriculate his credits.  Would be a steal.  The possibility looms that he may need additional work and USF will cool on him as well.

  11. Where's the long thread, and debate where I told knight fan this would happen.  He told me I was crazy (basically because his info is the crap that comes off the internet).  I said to trust me, and as I've been a pretty solid source, trust me.

I said a while ago not to be surprised if Carlton Hill came back into the fold.  I knew he'd come, and as far as the Perrilloux deal, it wouldn't suprise me if that tact was used to get him to shape up and finalize what many already knew- that Carlton Hill's coming to USF.

    You get this one.

But you certainly sucked it up on Nate Harris prediction.  Oh and btw, his grades are probably messed up and it looks like Louisville is cooling off on him.

With the lack of interest Gordon is getting my guess is that his initial SAT score was much lower than 770.

Also what 4 star recruits do you think you're gonna get?  How many guys cancelled their visits recently?  It was 3 or 4 highly sought guys wasn't it?

But onto the Hill situation it just comes back to what you said which is that Miami didn't have enough schollies to give so they were gonna throw that fish back.  I know you are reasonable and will accept that as anyone would.  But many of your cohorts are thinking the Miami offer is still golden which it is not.  BTW, why did Miami play this head game with Hill anyways?  Won't this crap eventually hurt them?
