  1. knight_fan there is too!

Its 300,000 for top assistants...the NCAA put the restriction in to stop larger schools from preventing young or hot coaching commodities from leaving the programs by schools paying them a redicules amount.

Look it up it's in black and white... ::)

Okay I'm going to assume you're being ironic.  ::)  The money can be obscene.  Chizik at Texas makes 700K I believe.  I remember we lost him to Auburn for the tune of 250K.

  2. While that still looks bad it's not near as bombastic as "their lowest paid asst coach is paid more than our highest" ..........

Is there a place to confirm all these figures?

Football coaches received $110,000 in bowl bonuses: $25,000 to O'Leary and the rest to nine assistants, who received an extra month's salary.

    110,000 - 25,000 = 85,000

    85,000 / 9 coaches = 9444.44 per month

    9,444 * 12 months = 113,333 per year.

Average UCF assistant coaching salary is $113,333.  I think this is average for D1A schools.

But if you look over their coaching histories you can see that most of them have done well at other schools.  Lance Thompson was the assistant Head Coach at LSU when they won their last NC.

  3. If you want to play with stats then lets go.  According to Rivals,  USF has 3 recruits with 3 stars that have a rating greater than 5.5(borderline 3-star) UCF has 0.

Also,  USF have 2 recruits with a rating of 5.4(highest 2-star) while UCF has 0.  I do think you are crazy but I will congratulate UCF on a fine recruiting class.  That said,  I believe ours will prove to be and is superior.

BTW - Frank Harry has 2 seasons left unless you are thinking that he will be so dominate that he will leave for the NFL after 1.

Correction, UCF has Devane who is 5.6.  We've got a lot of 5.5s but so what, it's still a 3 star ranking like it mattered to begin with.

He's obviously confused with Jackson who is a one and done.

  4. I sit near the Jr. Bulls Club and have for about four years.  About two years ago, we had one guy who just cursed up a blue storm with an F-bomb every other word... this was the game we lost to TCU.  Now, I'm no angel, but when you're around kids, you should try and curb that... and at a football game, that's most of the time.

Finally, I stood up and turned around and told the guy to watch his mouth around the kids.  Seriously, he was the worst I'd ever heard... and with the crowd being quiet as we were losing, he was even louder.  For the rest of the game he said stuff like "Gosh Darnit!" and "What the Flip!" trying to mock me for telling him to watch his mouth around the kids, but I didn't care... point was he settled down.

Now I sit in the row in front of Twillybull, and although we do let a bomb slip from time to time, we're pretty good about watching it around the kids.  Bottom line is, if there's a kid within earshot of you, it's really not acceptable.  You should be able to find a different way to express your anger.

MMmm...  I'm trying to put a lid on my profanity.  I don't curse much at games.  Sometimes at work I'll let a WTF under my breath slip out.  Not during meetings or anything.  But my question is if it's not okay for the kids to use this language or be exposed to it, why should any of us use it at all?   Yeah I know that's puritanical.  But the only way I can make sure not to slip up in front of the kids is to eradicate the f bomb from my vocabulary which has not been easy to do.

  5. NO, not James.....That was an old post from about a week ago.

James is a Miami verbal and I dont see that changing anytime soon, but hey, anything is possible.

But I did break two other verbals today.

    Josh Newberg

The two guys you broke today weren't huge statement type recruits.  Is there something bigger in the pipeline you're referring to?

Did you read what Dave Glaser wrote about Javaris James?  WHat's your take on that?

  6. It's a nice move but I'm confused by the free tickets and free entrance to military.

Is the donation actually going to someone other than paying the ticket price that UCF is on the hook for (so to speak) already as part of their bowl agreement? Are those for better seats? I don't see the distinction between the ones handed out at the flea market, the free entrance to military personnel, and the tickets UCF donated.

The free tickets are likely end zone seats.  The ones that UCF will donate are most likely sideline seats.

  7. GOL cleaned house last year and wasn't left with much.  The biggest change this year has probably been Steven Moffet.  The difference in him is due in part to his work ethic and the coaching staff working with him to improve his game.  So I wouldn't completely blame last year on coach George.  But with the coaching he was able to give the kids this year and the wise recruiting decisions, he's turned the team around in a year.   Picking up Kevin Smith and Joe Burnett was huge.  They're competing with each other for CUSA freshman of the year.

  8. How many of those teams actually have winning records?  As of right now, the answer is one - Houston, who happens to be losing in the fourth quarter right now and will no longer have a winning record.

Come on, you've got to be able to admit that your schedule is weak.  Saying that you belong in some Big 5 because you've won 8 games this year is just a huge fallacy.

Well we hung a loss on them, so it doesn't help with the win/loss column.  Who cares about this how many teams had a winning record argument.  You guys lost to Pitt.  What was their record at the time of the game.  You also beat up on Cinci and Syracuse, well let's just wipe those off hte books since they suck.  Plus, we're beating these teams while we're still in a rebuilding phase.

I think you guys are just pissed because we're getting more votes.  You guys will get votes as you play more games.  Beat WVU and you'll be in the top 25.

Also, USF was the better team this year.  They had one helluva running attack.  Congratulations to them.  The game next year should be very interesting.  Can't wait to get you guys in the C-Bowl.

  9. Would that be "paying attendance" of 25K per game? Becuase with students if you have 25k paying your gonna have 10-15k in students showing up for free. Hence the 40k figure in attendance.

They accounted for non-paid attendance by using a weighted ticket price to reflect the students and comp'd guests.  So they're not multiplying the attendance by a full $24 ticket price, but a lower figure.
