You are conflating two different sports? Name an old football stadium that you would prefer over the newer ones?  Soldier field had more character as you say before they renovated the first time into the blue and yellow seats.  However the bench seats were wood and some of the sight lines were awful, each renovation has made the attendance more enjoyable.  Three Rivers, Busch Stadium, Riverfront, Fulton County, the Coliseum all were replaced with nicer Stadiums, more Amenities and better sight lines, older is simply not better when it comes to football stadiums.

Green Bay would probably be the closest NFL stadium to Wrigley/Fenway status, and from what I gather Lambeau isn't far off from college stadiums like Notre Dame, Ohio State, Michigan, etc.

I’m not putting much weight on the renderings considering they were called conceptual and the design company that produced them (which presumably was having trouble delivering at cost) was just replaced. My cynical take is the renderings served as a convenient carrot they could dangle to over shadow the actual news: the 1 year delay.

But in general, I’d expect USF to be getting the shaft in cost and quality considering we are building at the possibly worst time for construction in modern history.

No, Populous is still involved.  they are the design phase.  Barton Mallow were the ones who were terminated.  Barton Mallow was essentially a contractor to manage the design and construction including Populous.  Now that Barton Mallow is not involved, the university will act as the point person, allowing Populous to handle design and a new bid for the construction phase is expected in the near future.

I know that whole situation from last week when Barton was terminated was confusing, but a friend explained it to me as USF wanted to have direct control and connection to design and construction, but with Barton there as a middle man it could make things challenging.

Is USF doing anything to get that student energy to Boca.  Free tickets, free transportation, whatever?  It would be money well spent IMHO.

I did see student tickets on the portal when I got my tickets the other day.  I don't know if they're free or discounted since you needed to use your student login to access.

Took a quick look at the renderings. With the scoreboard in the NE corner of the stadium will that get washed out with the sun going down directly opposite at the afternoon wears on?

LED technology is much better than it was in the past, so there are ways to compensate for the sunlight shining onto it.  I've seen LED billboards along I75 that have the sun facing them and there's very little distortion.

While I am happy with the initial renderings that's where probably some of my disappointment lies. I thought 340 million could get us something nicer than to what was presented. But that's on me. This is probably something closer to what North Texas, FAU, and Tulane got vs San Diego State and Colorado State.

Still happy though since we finally getting a decent looking stadium, and can't wait until it opens.

I think folks are forgetting that the 350mil estimate included the TGH Center and the Football and Lacrosse buildings too.

Tailgating on campus is going to be a blast.  Lot of places for people to call their spots.  I can see people in the Sun Dome parking lot and others down religious row.  Maybe even people over in the old Beta Hall parking lot area.  To me this is huge and will change the face of USF nationally and within Florida.  Easy for us to get on TV and show our brand and can you imagine College Game Day on a nice cool weekend in October.

    Go Bulls

I was having banter with a commenter on Facebook about the parking situation and not having "more parking lots".  I assume this person has never been to other schools on game weekends.  You park and tailgate all over campus.  Yes, of course the closer parking lots will be donor based, but FAU, UCF, and FSU all have free parking lots too....and not just in the garages.

  7. Looking at the blimp view, I'm not seeing a clear dimension of how large the away (north) stands are?  Of course the home side may seem small, but I'm sure theyre trying to distribute the seating around the field rather than have us in a RayJay situation where the home side is loaded up and the away side is sparsely filled.

Debbie downer here.  It looks okay, but I guess I expected a bit more for $300m+.  The seating areas look fine.  Perceived drawbacks from 1 rendering...

Metal supports do look really cheap (and almost unstable but I'm sure only the best structural engineers were involved).

No concourses to mill about and still be able to see the field - unless that rooftop area in the east endzone works for that but they don't show any fake people on it.

Thinking the concession areas are going to look a lot like UCF (wide open with lots of metal poles around). Would prefer a closed in Tulane type look for that.

And assuming a home side season ticket is going to be double what they cost now, expecting a shaded seat for even nooners is not unreasonable.

Also agree with others that it must be able to hold the largest possible pitch for soccer as a rental revenue generator.

Let's be honest, if this single rendering was released by UCF or any of our current conference mates, we would all be saying "looks cheap like the new soccer stadiums going up, we're going to build something way better".

All that being said, let's do this and GO BULLS!

VPMK said the concourse would be open to the field in between the lower and upper sections to have view of the field and the game.

Looks kind of like the UNT stadium they built a few years ago. I would think the student section would be cordoned off from the rest of the stadium.

It was said the concourse would be around the stadium, so i don't believe the student section is separate from the stadium as a whole, especially since the main Champions Way entrance for everyone is on the student section side of the stadium

Well, it's a stadium all right.....

Was really hoping for shade.  Those noon games are killers.

I need a hype man to help out here because all I see are two pics from way far out.  (Did not have chance to listen to the presentation yet).  Aside from "it's ours" what's something to be excited about? Anything cool we're doing with it?

These three pics are all that was given.  Advanced renderings in April 2024.
