  1. You got to admit that he is sounding a little silly with the same old phrases and avoidance techniques. A guy being paid around $750K a year should have a vocabulary of more than twenty words, don't you think?
  2. I disagree with that, because a young team could suffer tremendously with moral and confidence if they were to lose to tougher programs early on in the season. It would be counterproductive in preparation for conference play.  Especially with a RS freshman running the offense. If we had an experienced team with mostly Seniors and Juniors with the maturity to deal with adversity early in the season and being able to adjust going into conference play, then I would say play tougher teams.  But we don't have the maturity right now.  Look at the penalties.  Look at how petrified the punters get when they have to punt.  Mike Benzer looks as if he is going to throw up every time he gets an opportunity to kick an extra point and/or a field goal.  These guys are young.
  3. Kansas is a "brand name", regardless of how strong or weak their football team is. Beating them this coming weekend will equate to positives across the board, with being 4 - 0 the biggest positive for our young program.
  4. The OC is kind of like the unattractive girl at the bar.  After three drinks, she is starting to look pretty good.  Just like after three wins, some of you guys are starting to like Smith. Or at least warm up to him. ;D ÂÂ
  5. Twillybull, I was hoping no one would respond to him and the other guy, and it was going really well up until your post. But that's okay. They've irked a lot of people.
  6. That's classic man!  ;D I'm laughing my butt off picturing Mike Tice at the table with TJ Reeves answering phone calls while naked dancers girate their you know what behind them.
  7. I hope you are kidding right? I'm not questioning your loyalty to the team or to the Univ. or anthing, but come on, are you for real?
  8. That's wonderful, ET! My wife and I too, are expecting our first in July. I don't believe there is anything more exciting and scary. I wish you and your wife the very best! Don't worry fellow bulls. I already bought a bulls outfit, blanket, and socks for the little one. I will be ordering a flag, a little bucket hat, and other items soon.
  9. Full support here... But can we offer our honest opinions? Life is not all cotton candy and pink panties.
  10. This is too funny, fellas ;D. Quaaludes and sex? Man, I wish I went there during those times. My time: 92 - 97. Five year plan as my first two years were geared towards by BATT degree. Beer All The Time. Finally settled down and realized how important it is to actually go to class. Not trying to glamorized its or anything, but I think you all know how it is when you finally leave home for the freedom you've been yearning for all your adolescent life. Chucky was king. I too, am a big BB fan. Played all the time in the new Gym when it finally opened. Played all the time outside when the gym was being constructed. A moment I'll never forget is when I had next game during pick-up basketball in the new gym. Mind you, I'm not that bad, but I'm not close to being Chucky. I had picked up three other schleps like myself and needed one more. We were going against a team that had won five in a row already, and they reminded me of the guys on this year's Cincinnati squad. Very tall, very mean looking, and very good. For pickup BB that is. I couldn't seem to pickup a fifth as other guys waiting did not want to play with us schleps. And there were a lot of guys waiting! Then comes in Chucky and his BB crew: James Harper, Donzel Rush, Greg Summers, and couple others. "Who got next?!", asked Chucky. "Uh, I do", I said. "You got them all?" asked Chucky. "Uh, no. Not really" I replied. "How many you need?" "Just one". (But I wanted to drop the others, knowing I could be playing with the USF BB team. But who am I to do that, right?) "You wanna run?" I asked. "Yeah, why not", and then he yells "Hey yo, I got next!" I didn't feel too good at that moment as he was already calling next before we even started playing. I was guessing that our game was just a warm-up for Chucky. But you know what? Something about that afternoon I'll never forget for the rest of my life. I still see it today watching Chucky play in the NBA. He gives 100% no matter what situation he's in. We didn't lose a game that afternoon. I quit after winning five games in a row, because I was down right tired. Chucky lit up the gym with his outside shots. I don't think he missed more than five shots during those five games. He scored probably 8 out of 11 points per game. I scored 2 of the last three. And one other scored at least one. Not kidding. I swear on my grave! We even beat his crew when they finally played. Harper, Rush, and Summers. (I'm sure they weren't playing their hardest, but they still couldn't stop Chucky.) I made my shots because I had Chucky on my team. There were always three and sometimes four guys trying to keep up with him. When he needed a break from running the defenders in circle he would just dish it off to us. There was no way in hell we could miss as we all felt pretty confident with him on our team. Most of the times we would just pick for him and do some of the dirty work: rebound, dive for loose balls, etc. The guy was amazing! That afternoon made my college years even more memorable. Chucky never really said much to us on his team, but he was always talking trash to the opposing team. I was at awed as this 5'10" tall of a man talking as if he was 7'0". But he backed up everything he dished out. Man, he was awesome!
  11. Ahh, James Harper. One of my favorite player here at USF. And he graduated the same year I did. Who is Lawrence? What position? Anybody remember Coleman? Forgot his first name. Six one maybe six 2 I believe, but he played bigger. He was a SG when Chucky was a frosh. Got busted for stealing books, I believe. How about this one white guy: real skinny, played in the late nineties, I believe from California, SF, wore the side burns. And I'm not thinking about Johnson.
  12. Swift didn't play a lot earlier in his career because of Kohn.  SG seemed to like Reggie more as a player, maybe even more so personality wise.  Chucky played all four years, because there weren't much behind him besides Lamb for the last two years. I picked Swift for what he is doing this year with the team he has.  Someone earlier said Atkins did not have any talent playing with him.  I disagree.  The year they made it to the 2nd round NIT, they had Jerome Robinson, Jesse Salters, Rush (who I was not big on), the PF from Cali but got busted with pot, and the UCF transfer.  (Man, you guys are going to kill me.  #5 is the UCF transfer, I forgot his name.  He was thick like a 20oz. t-bone.  Someone please refresh my worn-out memory).  IMO, Swift only has TL.  The others on this year's team are too young, too many knee surgeries, too European (Stlye of play), too skinny, too raw, and too slow.  Chucky is definitely one of my favorite players.  But I think Swift has him beat on defense (back when Chucky played here).  I rarely see Kohn drive to the basket like Swift has been doing.  Yes, I know, Reggie was hurt.  And Reggie did have a better shot.  But he too was a liability on defense and he was never a dribble-drive player, more like dribble-shoot.  All around, I say Swift is still tops more of the following categories: shooting, passing, attacking the basket, intelligence, rebounding, and defense.
  13. Who is your pick as a better point guard when they played or is playing for USF?  Why? I'm going to pick Swift.  I know you all think I'm crazy, but this year Brian has amazed me.  I pick Swift over Chucky, because I think Swift holds the edge on shooting.  Now, I'm comparing Swift's shooting to Chucky's shooting when he played here.  I know Chucky's shots have gotten better these days.  Also, I think Brian's defense is better.  And Brian has more strength. ÂÂ
  14. How do they even get kids to sign LOI. Did they get any players this year?
  15. I thought he was around 210 lbs. Brian Dawkins looks monstrous compared to JR.
  16. They should pass something like that out to the students at the games. I think that would be a great marketing tool. LOL. I don't think I could hit a free throw seeing those faces behind the back board.
  17. Yeah, it's great to have a strong arm, but not for throwing three yard slant routes. More for like fifteen yards out patterns IMO. You gotta give your WRs a chance at the ball. I don't care how good your hands are, but those short passes PJ were throwing last year had smoke trailing behind them.
  18. Can someone by any chance give me the number of stars each of our recruit received? It doesn't have to be from one recruiting analyst. Thanks.
  19. and how many stars was he rated? Your opinion please. I didn't really follow much of our recruiting this year with the exception of Hill, but I know you gurus out there know.
  20. PJ came from a Wing-T offense in h.s.  Was PJ recruited by any other school as a QB?  If so, someone please enlighten me.  Seriously, I don't really know.  I do know a Wing-T offense does not rely on a QB's arm as a primary weapon. Hobbie was an ex-qb in college.  Not sure if he played pro, but if you knew of him a little, which I do, you would think otherwise as to his coaching abilities.  His son was an excellent qb for Sarasota High.  Signed with Kentucky, but gave up football after he got a nice contract from the Cleveland Indians.  I used to remember catching his passes in 8th grade and the guy could throw the ball 50 - 60 yards.  In 8th grade! He had all the mechanics and the know how to be a great qb.  But he was six feet tall.  They never really gave him a chance at Kentucky. And who is going to pass up a fat baseball contract at age 19? My point is that playing with and watching his son Matt made me appreciate Mike Hobbie's ability to coach the game and how he taught is kid to be a great quarterback.  And as far as him being a h.s. coach?  Everybody starts somewhere, and how do you know he didn't pass up college opportunities to coach Bayshore?  Maybe he didn't want to move far from the Sarasota area.  There are far more important things, you know, than football and careers.  You guys branded the guy without even knowing who he is or how he ended up here! Besides, look who was playing qb for us.  PJ, JB, and a bunch of others that no other programs cared about.  (I might be wrong there about our qbs and interest for them, but if I am please someone provide me with some facts. I say that with sincerity. I'm really curious.)
  21. I take Denson, even though I have never seen or heard of him playing. But from you guys say about him, I'll pick him as a starter. I do hope it's either one of the freshmans, preferably Hill because it would make a better story. Like Chris Leak at UF.
  22. Those schools you listed are in a class of their own. They and others in that elite class take almost all of our four and five star recruits. We then battle many other state schools for the leftovers. UF gets a lot of their studs out of state. And yes, going into the BE will improve recruiting. But I'm sure it's going to take a long time, five years at best. During that time we're still going to be picking leftovers. Being in a great conference means something, but not everything. Look at Virginia Tech (ACC), Ruthgers (BE), Vanderbilt (SEC), Baylor (B12), ASU (Pac10). Sure, maybe a success story here or there. But a dynasty? Unlikely.
