  2. Wow, that is the first time in 1 million uniform posts I have ever seen anyone that "hopes" for the white on white. I prefer the white/green, it looks much better.
  3. http://www.sptimes.com/2006/09/13/Sports/Ticket_issue_trips_up.shtml By GREG AUMAN, Times Staff Writer Published September 13, 2006 -------------------------------------------------------------------------------- TAMPA - Saturday's USF-Central Florida game in Orlando likely won't match last year's attendance of 45,139, then the largest ever to see the Bulls play at Raymond James Stadium. And though USF today will return to UCF a decent chunk of its allotment of 5,000 tickets, the Bulls have made an active push to get more students to Saturday's game. Questionably active by some standards, even if the drive is well-intended. Student Government bought two lots totaling 1,250 tickets from UCF at a discounted rate of $12 each - half face value - then went a step further by selling them to students at $5 each, subsidizing the difference of $8,750, with some of that money coming from the Activity and Services fees students pay as part of their tuition. Monday's initial sale of 500 tickets sold quickly enough that SG called an emergency meeting that night to authorize purchase of another block of 750. Those tickets sold out Tuesday afternoon, with about 150 students still in line when the last seat was sold. Their gripe? Organizers didn't put a cap on how many tickets could be purchased, so long as there was a student ID number with every ticket purchase. As a result, one student representing a group of about 12 fraternities bought blocks of 400 tickets, while others got none. "I wanted Greek Life to come together to represent USF with one massive push for tickets together," said Charlie Aguirre, who waited in line for 90 minutes before the ticket window opened Tuesday. Thomas King, a junior and SG's comptroller, filed a memo at Monday's emergency meeting, objecting that rules governing the allocation of student funds had been circumvented in the rush to get more tickets. Independent of student sales, USF had sold 1,976 tickets, well short of its allotment. But the combined total of 3,200-plus tickets sold is actually the second-largest contingent for a Bulls away game, trailing only last year's bowl debut in the Meineke Car Care Bowl in Charlotte. Asked for an update on total sales, UCF assistant athletic director Joe Hornstein was hesitant to give any figures Monday, saying only that he expected Saturday's crowd to surpass the attendance for the Knights' season opener against Villanova, announced as 29,398. Any crowd near that size would fall short of hopes on both sides of the rivalry. SOCCER SHINES: Both soccer teams have opened the seasons hot, with coach George Kiefer's men winning 2-0 at No. 8 Notre Dame and Logan Fleck's women at 4-1-1 with an upset of ranked Marquette. The men have two key home dates this weekend, hosting West Virginia No. 10 in the coaches' poll Friday and Pittsburgh on Sunday. Two wins would put USF in control of the league's Red Division nearly halfway through the 10-game league season. For the women, Tennessee transfer Lindsay Brauer is the Big East's leading scorer with seven goals and three assists, and freshman Jaleesa Scott was named league rookie of the week after scoring the winners goals against Marquette and Stetson. WELCOME BACK: Women's golf coach Susan Holt leaves this week to take the same job at Notre Dame, and the Bulls are turning to a former standout to guide their team. Kelly Lagedrost, a 2001 USF grad who has played five years on the LPGA and other pro tours, will step in as interim coach for the fall season. "It's always been in the back of my mind," said Lagedrost, who won a state championship at Hernando High in 1996. "I've got to learn a lot, and it'll be interesting to jump in headfirst. But I'm excited." Lagedrost, 27, has played 10 LPGA events this season, made two cuts, and plans to attend "Q School" qualifying in December. THIS AND THAT: Next week's USF-Kansas football game will be televised locally on FSN Florida. ... If last year is any indication, Orlando police might be busy at the USF-UCF game Saturday. Last year's game totaled 14 arrests and 24 ejections, both more than triple the average from USF's other home games. ... USF will have a site devoted to women's basketball star Jessica Dickson, on the watch list for the Wade Trophy, awarded to the nation's top player. Look for jd25.com next month, around the start of preseason practice.
  4. Anyone have the contact info so I can order tickets for the TD Waterhouse event?
  5. Awesome, and they have me with my 0-17 sign from last years game.  Nice touch!
  6. I think this was from when he was on his hands and knees doing a begging gesture to the ref. This picture missed that CLASSIC moment!
  7. Completely sober unfortunately. > I'm not saying they sounded bad, hell they sounded great at halftime and before the game... but during the game, you cannot hear them, unless you're in the direct line of fire. Even then the volume wasn't there. When I walked up to the North Endzone, I could hear the FIU band, maybe not loud, but clear. The fact is those kids played LOUD! From the south side, you CANNOT hear our band... not even close. You can kinda hear them up around the 25-30 yard line (west side of the field). What's gonna happen when the stadium starts to fill up and the crowd noise picks up? If it's a positioning thing, then they need to be moved. Maybe even pump them over the PA system... but for the love of the college football gods, TURN UP THE VOLUME!!! Nice back-peddling after everyone schools you on this thread. So why don't you explain away your title of "HOT should be ASHAMED"???? So they should be ashamed about where they sit? You should be ASHAMED that you don't have tickets in a place that you can hear the band. Twinkiebull SHOULD BE ASHAMED.
  8. Agreed. This thread really pi$$ed me off for some reason. There is no need for this nonsense. Good post Faza!
  9. You are wrong. Why would you even start a thread like this? They have nothing to be ashamed about, you should be ashamed posting prior to thinking.
  10. We've got some other people coming out so we are just doing our own thing this week. Plus, I don't like you!
  11. I have 6 club access tickets on the visitors side, section 137, 2 rows from the field, about the 35 yard line. I am using my firms box seats in the suite so I will be selling my season tickets. I will see for $20 each, but if you want several I will discount. Just call me, we can work something out. You can call me anytime up to gametime as I will be tailgating. -Zonald 813 966-2779
  12. WTF? He was reported to have fathered the baby of his seceretary.
  13. ET, I want you on this immediately!  http://blogs.tampabay.com/usf/ Wikipedia.org, the Internet's popular free encyclopedia, is a strange resource, in that half the information you find comes with a bit of agenda from the writer. So it's with some amusement that you read the entry for USF coach Jim Leavitt, which has no doubt been written or at least recently updated by a Central Florida fan: "He is notorious for recruiting problem kids (drugs, bad grades, criminal pasts, etc) in hopes of becoming the 4th college football power in the state of Florida. Has an unknown aversion to scheduling the University of Central Florida Knights who are already considered the 4th power in the state." And it gets worse. Not that it's a rivalry or anything, but you'd think some well-meaning USF fan would "edit" some of Leavitt's page. Even the George O'Leary page references the Bulls, saying how the Knights lost to "perceived rival USF" last year. Should be a fun game week next week for both sides ...
  14. Yea, I just made those numbers up! : http://www.gousfbulls.com/pdf7/42237.pdf?ATCLID=591256&SPSID=37331&SPID=2981&DB_OEM_ID=7700
  15. I was just curious as to what some of you think about the play calling based upon these stats. Down RUN PASS Total OVERALL.......... 25 15 40 1ST DOWN......... 11 5 16 2ND DOWN-SHORT... 2 0 2 2ND DOWN-MIDDLE.. 5 0 5 2ND DOWN-LONG.... 2 6 8 3RD DOWN-SHORT... 2 0 2 3RD DOWN-MIDDLE.. 1 1 2 3RD DOWN-LONG.... 1 3 4 4TH DOWN......... 1 0 1
  16. lol. Funny some girls I was with noticed that as well. He also doesn't put it in until right before the play. At times we thought he didn't even use it. I like the 'strapless' version better as well.
  17. As to your questions, I think he committed to USF so early that no other schools put much time in recruiting him. He was a monster in high school though, runner up Mr. Football.

  20. http://www.sptimes.com/2006/09/06/Sports/Drug_policy_better__a.shtml Drug policy better, associate AD says By GREG AUMAN, Times Staff Writer Published September 6, 2006 -------------------------------------------------------------------------------- TAMPA - It's not an easy sell, but Barry Clements thinks less severe penalties for drug violations are best for USF athletes. Clements, an associate athletic director at USF, was responsible for overseeing a change this summer that softened the athletic program's three-strikes-and-you're-out substance abuse policy, lowering the suspension assessed for a second positive drug test from 50 percent of a season to 20 percent. Clements said the change - reversing a shift from 20 to 50 percent made a year earlier - came after consulting with the National Center for Drug-Free Sports, which oversees drug testing for many universities, including USF. "They told us it was too much of a jump from zero to 50 percent," Clements said. "We want to change behaviors, and they believe if you penalize too much, you lose them instead of getting them focused. When you take away the only thing they may have that's positive, they can really drop off as a result." Twenty percent is "probably the norm" nationally for a second offense, Drug-Free Sports president Frank Uryasz said, and other schools have found success with lessening their penalties, as USF has done. The effectiveness of a program, however, is a function of its penalties and the frequency of testing. And the Bulls aren't administering as many drug tests as most Division I-A programs. USF athletes took a total of 273 drug tests from July 2005 to August 2006. The I-A average from a 2003 survey conducted by the NCAA was 426. Limitations on drug tests are often financial, Uryasz said. A "street drug" test costs at least $20 to $25, and an anabolic steroid test can run as much as $150. USF has taken major strides toward a more thorough drug policy under third-year athletic director Doug Woolard, Clements said. This summer's changes added separate language that addresses steroid use, in which a second violation results in loss of a scholarship. Kicking a player off a team isn't always an end to the problems for the university. In June, quarterback Carlton Hill and two former football players were arrested on campus for possession of marijuana. One of those former players, Devon Davis, had been dismissed from the football team in spring 2005 after being arrested on a separate drug charge with two other teammates - both now gone - in 2004. Although USF officials won't comment on the specific reasons, three football players who were contending for starting jobs entering the fall were suspended from the Bulls' season opener Saturday for an unspecified violation of team rules. They're expected to miss this week's game with Florida International as well. USF's change in its drug policy comes in a year in which the Bulls have faced negative publicity associated with arrests for driving under the influence. First-year graduate assistant Mike Simmonds, a longtime head coach at Jefferson High, was arrested on a DUI charge in February, and senior Will Bleakley, the team's starting tight end, was arrested on the same charge early Tuesday. Again, it's not that USF isn't trying to work on the problem. Bleakley's arrest came just eight days after Bucs linebacker Derrick Brooks addressed all of USF's athletes, speaking about the importance of making good decisions. THIS AND THAT: The volleyball team's 2-2 start, with sweeps of Illinois-Chicago and UTEP this weekend, is encouraging for a team that opened 1-14 last season. Sophomore Marcela Gurgel leads the Big East with 5.2 kills per game. Senior Juliana Nogueira is fifth in assists with 12 per game. ... With six goals in her first three matches, USF's Lindsay Brauer is the Big East's scoring leader in soccer. ... To put this week's football opponent, FIU, in perspective, just two years ago the Panthers lost a home game to last week's Bulls opponent, Division I-AA McNeese State. SI.com ranks all 119 I-A programs, and this week FIU is No. 117. USF is No. 54, three spots behind Central Florida. Greg Auman covers USF athletics for the Times.
