  1. How much money do you think we lose by going bowling? How many tickets do you think the school actually sells and eats the cost of?

Look back to the past bowl games, even when fan support was at its strongest. USF lost money by going bowling. Look at how much money UConn lost going to the Fiesta bowl.

So as much as I would love and think the players(Seniors) deserve to go bowling, this year would really make a dent in the budget. Esp if we are on the hook for 500 K to buy out Skip and signing a new coaching staff.

The only ones who benefit from a bowl this year are Skip, his staff, Doug and the players.

Remember the Big East does revenue sharing across the teams so whether USF goes bowling or not they will make a little bit of money.

  2. That is a bold statement for Woolard, who is the AD, to make considering he is not at practices and not on the sidelines. I wonder what would encourage Woolard to say such a thing. I can only assume the coaches provided some level of biased information that would make Woolard confident that the possibility could occur.

But based on history that would be quite a surprise. Under this staff USF has never won 4 games in a round against BCS level opponents.

Unless Woolard and Holtz are channeling their inner Jim Fassel.....

  3. There are

Ice, yeah the name has some cache but this program is not like others. The coach has to have relentless energy and drive this thing forward. Also, Phil was not a great X and O guy as I recall. As Steve spurrier said when Phil was at Tennessee, you can't spell citrus bowl without UT.

Sanjay Keep in mind the Head Coach sets the direction for the program, there are people on the coaches staff that do the running around and recruiting. I do not imagine that Spurrier and Saban are in their car making trips to a recruit's home across the country.

Regarding X and O's, Spurrier's offense at the time was based on pure speed. The offense keyed on the WR's ability to out run the DB and the QB to put the ball in a spot for the WR to ge the ball. Tennessee did not have the luxury of the speed that UF had. Buy keep in mind Tennessee won a BCS championship before UF.

Fulmer will need to address the defensive coordinator position but I believe he will be able to address that accordingly.

I would equate Fulmer coaching at USF like having similar athletes as the SEC but without the SEC Pressure.

  4. If USF has a coaching change at the end of the season, USF should go after Phillip Fulmer.

    Article:

    Highlights:

    • The 2012 season is the start of Phillip’s fourth year away from coaching after winning exactly 100 more games than he lost – 152-52 (almost 75 percent) – as the Vols’ interim head coach for four games in 1992, and then as THE man from 1993-2008.

    • Just about anyone who coached under Phillip say he’s had an impact on their career, from current Duke head coach David Cutcliffe to LSU defensive coordinator John Chavis. Cutcliffe and Chavis, as the Vols’ offensive and defensive coordinators, were Phillip’s left and right-hand men.

    • When he walked into a booster club or alumni meeting, he didn’t dread it. He didn’t hurry in a room, deliver a speech and sprint for the exit when it was over. He arrived early. He stayed late. He shook hands. He remembered names.

    • “Could I go back to coaching? Yes, if the right opportunity presented itself. Once it’s in your blood, it’s something to consider every year.

Assuming that Kentucky has a change in the coaching staff Fulmer can add:

  5. I still believe if illegal forward propulsion was not called we would have won out and won the Big East. That changed the whole trajectory of USF football.

I'm with you. I pin that single moment as a shift in our program. People may thing we are crazy but it hasn't been the same since

I agree I believe that was a pivotal moment in USF's Football history. Someone call Doc and Marty lets go Back to the Future. :)

  6. Bowden is living off his father's resume and name more than Skip!

Coker lit the match that burned the Miami program to the ground, (he won the NC because Davis left that team LOADED with talent)

Shannon was behind Coker with gasoline screaming "FIRE, FIRE, haha FIRE"

Cristobal can't win in the SunBelt Conference, how's he going to do in the BigEast?

The difference between Terry and Skip is that Terry actually won on the "Big Stage" at Auburn.

But it would be awkward to go from the Holtz family to the Bowden family.

  8. In terms of revenue......

38,562 tickets distributed at an estimated $12.00 is $462,744. I am not sure but this may be considered a good day for USF Athletics.

But keep in mind the following:

    • USF's student section size is 12,501
    • USF has to pay some amount to the TSA

Revenue is one thing profit is another. Not sure how profitable the homecoming game was and how profitable the games ahead will be.

Maybe the plan was to make all the money on the FSU game. Who knows..

  9. The brown bag is a classic good but no one will notice. The game will barely be on ESPN3 and there will be no-one at the stadium. Maybe it would be better to hand a personal letter to Skip since you may be one of few in the stadium.

The quantitative metrics like attendance show up on the financial stat sheet.

    "WE CAN DO BETTER!!!"
