  1. Although coming into thin air from a thick air region does hurt the body's flow of oxygen. Perhaps one reason that place is considered a significant home field advantage. Even so, PSU should be favored...by like 3 or 7 at most.
  2. Oh man...I was top 100 in NCAA 2005! Even now im in the top 200! I can't wait for 2006. USF is gonna be FUN to play as with Hall!
  3. I don't understand this pride and loyalty BS. Stick your noses up somwhere else. These are kids with individual lives that pick institutions based on their best guess of where they will fit. When Schaeffer signed with UT, he didnt know if Julmiste was or wasn't going to be good. He did know we had 3 QB's on our depth chart. Tennessee had how many again? Point is, these players are PEOPLE with LIVES. This isn't a relationships where you don't take someone back if they treat you crappy. It's not even a good analogy. IF he wants to come to USF he will, and USF should take him. Our own players have committed worse crimes than getting in a fight over a girlfriend. And if you still think this is a bad idea and that we need to build "pride", ask yourself this: what would Miami(FL) do? Maybe take the transfer QB if they needed him? Brock Berlin wasnt even that good... Don't get me wrong though. We do need pride. Just not the kind that comes from snubbing kids because they're trying to find the best place to go to college and pick incorrectly because they couldnt see 60% of the factors ahead of time. The ONLY issues for us accepting this transfer are his desire to, our needs of another scholarship QB, how good his is, and most importantly what type of person he is.
  4. Thats what i was getting at, if you read it carefully. That you can't just look at names OR records, you have to take a realistic look at how good a team is based on, well, how good that team is. But doing that in a 119 team series is a little rough for ones head, so they make crappy formulas. It's hard to deny my point though. FSU really doesnt seem to play a tougher schedule than us. We have 2 similar opponents (One of them is both teams hardest game), and a bunch of other ones that are very difficult to distinguish between. I'll tell you though, UL looked much better than georgia tech last year. If you want to say WVU is worse than BC i suppose you could try, but there just isnt much difference. NC state and pitt didnt seem far and away different last year, either. 8th strongest? probably not. Top 25 strongest? Highly likely. The reason for these formulas? Unknown, or maybe they just get our attention, and are better than nothing.
  5. He is still the greatest QB to have dressed at USF. He is a good player, but not NFL calibre because of reasons mentioned. Many of you seem to forget his poise and intelligence in college that lead him to greatness at USF. He did well against just about all his 1-a competition. Did you really expect him to look good in Oklahoma? How many QB's that go there DO look good? The team was overmatched so much that i doubt he was getting normal time to throw, and i doubt receivers were open as often or by as much. Same with arkansas. USF was out-classed in those games, and Blackwell just couldnt do it. If you have any doubts about him as a college QB, remember the stat that stands out the most to me: he was second all time in consecutive passes without a pick. Anyone THAT good at avoiding turnovers who can also get some points and ground yards, can be a great college QB. We threw it a lot for him to have no picks for so many games straight.
  6. You're trying to use names as having more meaning than records, while this is putting more emphasis on records than school names. You can't do either and get the right answer. Dont forget that USF also plays Miami and Cuse, and that UL, WVU, and Pitt are fair trades for GT, BC, and NCST, perhaps even better. The "amongst others" is really more of the easy teams. FSU routinely smokes teams like duke etc. USF and the Big 3 all have difficult schedules this year, but to say FSU's or Miami's is clearly stronger is nothing short of pure ignorance, especially if Penn State turns out to be a good again.
  7. At least a 6-5 season, improved QB play (at least 56% completions), and a defense with the success we're used to. If those things happen next year, I will be happy. Besides, i can't picture us doing worse than 6-5 if the other 2 conditions happen.
  8. Most likely, the kids who cramped were not doing so from conditioning though. It's a preparation thing. You eat potassium and (to a lesser extent) some salt. You drink LOTS of water night before and day of leading into the game. You stretch out correctly before the game. I'm sure if I can play ball in the sun for 3 hours, the fine athletes on our team can, they're far superior to me in most athletic aspects (outside my mile time perhaps). I doubt strongly that the kids were prepared going in.
  9. Technically, we are in the same league as the national championship miami squad! oh wait. You meant FIGURATIVELY speaking. Nope. Nowhere near em. USF is closer than UCF, but not by a great deal. Its fighting for 4th at the half way point when the first 3 are already finished with the race.
  10. UCF fans that show up here aren't too bad. If you were paying attention, he was just noting that we are playing harder teams than 2001 or 2002. Many USF fans have also noted this, and are well aware that even if hill winds up better than MB, his stats may never show it.
  11. This is a GOOD hire. You can't always be negative. Sure, the team he worked for was pretty bad in his stretch, but we're talking about taking a decent OC with a history of success, and making him a POSITION coach. Of noteworthy mention is that since ohio used a running set, the TE coaching probably includes BLOCKING from this guy, and that could never hurt. And yes, we do need a QB coach, badly. Who knows, with a good qb coach maybe getting smith out of that and into playcalling was the right idea, as long as smith calls even halfway decent plays a good QB and hall could do really well. I still wonder if CJL is just trying to take over the offense though. I couldnt blame him for that.
  12. I will put up with it as long as they have a crappy offense. It's not like I can make a difference typing this. No matter how much I hate the hire, I can't do anything about it, other than trying out for the team. But I'd be way, way behind any current QB's anyway, so much it would look like a bad movie. So all I can do i shake my head and know we'll be good eventually. And keep attending games.
  13. I don't think I need to. And as the poster above said, its not necessary for getting my point across. Dana Dimal WAS rumored, and I would have been VERY happy with him here. He probably didn't want to come. However, there are a lot of successful coaches and schools. Smith just seems so unproven that I find it VERY had to believe that we couldn't hire a single person that would have been better.
  14. Miami, UL, and either Pitt or WVU most likely. In every other game there is nobody we absolutely couldnt beat.
  15. No i agree. Aside from the ponderous OC hire, our personnel and team is set to be pretty good. I don't see how any but the top of our schedule next year outclasses us.
  16. I wasn't just talking about current USF staff. I'm thinking of any highly successful OC at a smaller school, or any highly successful offensive coach that looks like he could be a good fit for us. You're right, Franks is the only one that is actually IN the system that really deserves it more.
  17. Yeah i got it, but i wanted to ignore you and rip on him anyway .
  18. Wow, i didnt realize they were bombing us. I thought they were just "moving into the area" . I meant the worst football hire of course. Smith isnt even close to the worst ever hire by usf overall!
  19. And i wont ever abandon this team. I like the points you make, perhaps smith is better with the clipboard than he is at personnel development. CJL controlling the offense worries me because his background is defensive, although I suppose if he calls the right plays it wont matter. This just upsets me thouroughly because there are many, many more deserving candidates that earned this position, but were left behind in favor of someone less qualified. I dont care if you dont even want to blame smith for the QB failure. A promotion usually comes as a result of something POSITIVE DONE. No usf poster to my knowledge has given me something concrete smith did to earn the position. No matter how you slice it, it's a bad hire. Coaches getting promotions should have proven they deserve it, not leave fans wondering. I hope it works out, but its still our worst FOOTBALL hire.
  20. This does not change the fact that he was the last QB i saw here with consitently decent mechanics. All the coaching tangibles in a QB that should be there weren't. I do realize that the 2 guys who have played recently dont seem to have the poise to play college QB, but the fact that they constantly looked bad has to be somewhat attributable to the coach. And no matter HOW you slice it, Smith has done very little to prove hes PROMOTION worthy.
  21. Ah, but coker did some good things before he became HC. He certainly wasnt all but a proven failure.
  22. It says either leavitt is not in control, or he is not putting serious effort into this offense, or this team. That, or he wants full command of the offense. Sad as it may be, i hope its option #3.
  23. News flash: Smith didnt train blackwell. Don't bold that crap. Our great seasons at QB were off the remains of the older qb coach. The talent has to have been possible the past few years...only god awful programs have failed to beat us at qb play over the time period.
  24. Sigh...you just don't get it do you. Now I'm not gonna go off and be a dumbazz and quit watching usf football because of this move... But that doesn't change the fact that on the surface it is the least intelligent move this young football program has ever, EVER made. It makes me sick to see it. I mean it. I am horrified because I know my bulls are guaranteed to win fewer games with this clown coaching vs somebody competent. You can say that julmiste and banks were beyond help all you like. Sure...blame the players. But let's just assume for a second they both lack composure and can't learn the system. This moron coach could have trained somebody intelligent to make intelligent throws. He could have put at least ONE PLAYER over 50% completions consistently. In short, Smith has not done a SINGLE thing at USF to earn a promotion. His job should have been on the line BEFORE hobbie. Hobbie didnt call perfect plays, but many of them would have worked if they had a guy who could throw somewhere other than a receiver's feet. Smith deserves consideration for firing, not a promotion. Don't tell me not to rip on the guy, he's done nothing for this program except produce two miserable quarterbacks with still no sign of benefit from his training to be seen. At least hobbie did SOME things right. If this works out, I'll be happy, but I'll also be shocked. Right now, I WANT to be eating my hat, but there's just not a single way I can see this as being a good hire for us. I'd have rather hired a good madden player to call plays than a proven failure...jeebus.
