  1. To add to what Jim said, IMO you cannot define a rivalry by what school you would want to come to Ray Jay. Rivalries are, by definition, a back-and-forth exchange. I could say that I want Notre Dame to come here to play us because of their great football tradition, but that does not mean that they would want us to come to South Bend. Both UCF and USF have interest in playing each other in both Tampa and Orlando. What's so wrong with that?

  2. Great post, Steve. I think it would be cool to have a UCF - USF rivalry, because I graduated from both schools (UCF undergrad '97 & USF grad school '03).  But I am a BULLS fan, through and through!!!!!

But you are right that the players are the ones that determine rivalries to a large extent, just by the level of play against certain "hated" teams.  If everyone (on BOTH sides) could just calm down & let the play on the field speak for itself, we may have an OOC rivalry developing before our very eyes. I would never count it as more important than our BE games, but we have to schedule some OOC games anyway, so why not stick to a popular in-state school for some friendly competition?

Great thread, Jim!!!!! I look forward to meaningful discussion, free of the usual smack talk.

  3. Another note on _EI's idea: in the 4th quarter Saturday, when the Bulls players were trying to rally the fans in the student endzone, they were waving the bulls sign to the fans along with the HOT to increase the noise.  :o

(BTW, I think you've got a great idea. NOTHING is more annoying to me than hearing that awful Seminole war chant during F$U games! I'd love to have the Bulls come up with something equally memorable!)

  4. We have our seats in the endzone and there were actually people sitting there last night, but you wouldn't have been able to tell it when it was important, because all they did was SIT there.

We used to sit right behind you guys in the student end zone, and I pointed out to my husband that I could tell where your new seats were b/c you were the only group in the front row of the opposite end zone that were actually standing up and cheering!!!!
