  1. expectations for this year based on last year's team - FAR FAR FAR exceeded my expectations.

expectations modified after watching THIS year's team - most games were what I expected, Louisville was an unexpected win and Pitt and UConn were unexpected losses. So maybe it is still the incredibly bitter taste in my mouth from the UConn game but I think with the team we had this year we underacheived by about 1 (net) game in the W-L column.

Now we just have to win the bowl game to make up for it!!  ;D

  2. One last thing about our fight song then I'll leave it alone  ;D

the shouted part is actually a **** good cheer, just like cheering U-S-F or Green-Gold but it really isn't recognizable as a song nor is it good for a fight song. During the game no-one would be able to distinguish it from a popular cheer as part of our fight song if they didn't know what our fight song is. Maybe it would be best to just call that old tune the USF cheer song.

  3. I know, mutt, but we have to start.

My first college football game was at Michigan State - they were playing Notre Dame.  The sound of 60,000 people actually SIGNING the fight song drowned out the band.  It was an amazing thing to see.

And I know that most of us have heard the Michigan fans signing "Hail to the Victors..."

Moreover, if people learn the words, the fight song actually starts to sound like a fight song.

As a Michigan fan I'm biased but the Victors is the best fight song around. What makes it great is when the crowd is "Hailing!" the victors you get the feel of a nation cheering on their military as they marching out to do battle or applauding them as they return home victorious. I don't really agree that lots of voices can make a crappy fight song great, it needs attitude, it needs to be militaristic. ie....it needs to be a FIGHT song making you want to battle, not to giggle. When girls find the song fun or cute, well...that AINT a FIGHT song! I think some people do enjoy the south florida part but **** that song definitely does NOT get the blood boiling in a frenzy to fight and that is what makes a great FIGHT song!

  4. fight song is horrible IMO. It sounds like carnival music with words that a high school cheerleader would shout. Give me an S...give me an O....give me a U...etc..

I keep hoping that like the logo, someone will realize it needs an upgrade to a fight song that actually has a bit of "fight" in it! Until then I'll just continue to cringe everytime I hear the wurlitzer begin.

  5. I must admit, I was a Zip from 95-99!   :o

Yes, Zonald was a Zip!  I was at every home football game in 95 and 96.  THEY SUCKED big time back then.  Horrible, horrible team.  The Rubber Bowl is OFF CAMPUS by about 20 miles and FREEZING cold in the winter.

Good to see they are FINALLY doing something positive.  What a difference a coach makes.

I didn't see the game, but they have had some good QB's recently.

That's ok Zonald, BULLheaded was a Kent State Golden Flashes way back in 87. Of course that was one of the few good times when Glen Mason was coach lol.

suuuuuuuuure haven't had trouble switching teams though!

  6. Frankly if we have to rely on a crap schedule like that to get into a bowl game then we really wouldn't be deserving anyway. Besides, maybe you would find it satisfying to watch us play and beat up on a bunch of nobodys but to me that would just be a garbage season. This season with games against PSU, Miami and the better Big East teams was hands down the most exciting ever and I can't wait for our schedules to get better and better.

In other words the key isn't to play crap but to quit playing LIKE crap

  7. I would modify those percentages as:

    PJ at 5%

    receivers at 10%

    Center at 20%

    Rod Smith 65% of blame

with all this blame placed on PJ everyone seems to forget how many passes were dropped by the receivers, two of which were right on the money passes resulting in turnovers. Also, the center had two bad snaps that cost us 9 points (that's the game right there fellas)

Add to that the incredibly dense play calling after that bad snap (just one example of course) and we end up with nothing.

  8. PJ isn't great but he was far from the main problem today. Frankly our offense is just a plain old disaster.....they suck. Andre aside, they are ill prepared, can't throw, can't catch, the play calling stinks, we shoot ourselves so often that I wonder if penalties and turnovers are actually a part of the play book. We were discussing tonight how long it had been (ie...how many YEARS) since it was exiting to watch our offense. I was SO F-ING PISSED after that playcalling on the goal line that I felt that Leavitt should have marched up to the booth and fired Smith ON THE SPOT!!

Now that being said, I suppose you aren't really a true fan. It's painfull as hell and that was about the most unpleasant game I can remember watching since elway had "the Drive" on my browns but I'll be there next week since as a FAN it is our job to support the team. I guess all those fairytale posts of your came with the caveat that if we don't win you take it all back.

Yeah I'm pissed.......can't even explain how pissed and people like you make it even worse.

  9. I'm a lot less worried about K-State then I was over Alabama. Back then we were not in a BCS league and there was no real reason to expect us getting into one. Now he no longer has that limit his accomplishment here at USF. So to me if he goes it will be strictly a money issue and since there is no way we could compete with kstate financially there is really no sense in worrying about it. In other words, if the program is the deciding factor I think staying here is a lock, if it's a financial decision then there is nothing we can do to prevent him from leaving. Hopefully he'll agree that he has something going here that he couldn't get anywhere else and decide to stay.....now, rod smith on the other hand....what a GREAT opportunity he could have in buffalo  :)

  10. not once did i see the offense drive 80+ yds down the field for a TD.. they took advantage of what the defense gave them.. a win is a win, but we cant keep on relying on the defense bailing us out.. we gotta be able to win both running and passing.. and we gotta be able to drive down the field

That still has nothing to do with PJ. Due to penalties and the lack of Andre to get started today we were facing 1 & 20s or 2 & 20s all day long. Today it was mostly PJ that moved the ball all day long. In addition to my above post he also was very composed without the "happy feet" and made several difficult across the body passes. Anyway, point is he may not be the best qb in the world but he deserves credit after today's play since he is the reason we won today.
