  1. I was off duty and at an auto shop getting my brakes fixed on my personal car. There was a television on in the shop and the shop owner was talking about a fire at one of the WTC buildings. It was live on the T.V. As I was standing there talking to the guy we saw the 2nd plane hit the other tower. I immediately said "that was terrorists!" and then "we are going to war". I stood there the whole morning with him and as the towers fell I thought of all the rescue workers who must have been in the building.. cops and firemen. All of the people trapped that were just doing a days work when they were murdered... The shop owner would not let me pay for the work done on the car.. I went outside and cried as I drove home..
  2. Well it sounds like young mistakes, that 15 yrd penaltie when we had them on 4th down was huge, they drove for a td. Bet there was some locker head butting at halftime for sho! If we get the 3 players back next week and work on special teams all week in practice I like our chances.
  3. or do you think we get something from this??? So that we don't take anything for granted against other teams, or are we just that weak and got exposed? Or FIU just that talented? or combo of all or some of these things. Or is it the players that we are missing from suspensions?
  4. I think they're planning to build an addition to their stadium so plenty of room for bandwagoners.  Feel free to join, and we'll certainly miss you! As it stands most of us realize that Leavitt dislikes the media by and large so they betray him as far more aloof and distant than he really is.  He's one of the most affable and nicest guys to any alum, and will make time for virtually any alum.  Just because some news papers have disrespected his wishes and he lashed back, and then decided instead of letting water roll under the bridge that they would write some cheap, and tacky articles about him doesn't make him that person. If you've met him before you know he's one of the nicest guys- providing you do not play for him. The media has given him reasons to distrust. Remember Eddie Cardieri was a very good friend and he didn't like how someone portrayed him before his resignation. Agree totally, When I first met him when the football team was being formed I thought how easygoing and nice he was, very friendly (but focused, you can see it in his eyes). Eddie has the same quality. CJL is very approachable and intelligent as well. I hope he is around for his entire career, USF will be going up up up (as we have been) as long as he is here. Anyone who says different just doesn't know what is going on with the program.
  5. Ok, Mike. I am sorry for calling you on it then, as you can probably understand I am very sensitive on the subject. I have no doubt that any of you would have liked Mario as a person and as a cop. You would not believe some of the things people have said regarding the incident. It is a hard thing to lose a friend who was so good hearted and loved while he was trying to do his job and keep people safe. I am still trying to make my peace with it. I will not be working any of the games down there, am still undecided if I will be able to see my beloved Bulls when they come to town.
  6. That was my friend who was killed last year, Mario Jenkins, can we refrain from these types of jokes please? How do you know he was reffering to that incident, and not the area in the whole? That area has it's shaddy spots just like all other major cities. Ok, he must have been referring to some other shooting in the tailgating area that I don't know about. :
  7. That was my friend who was killed last year, Mario Jenkins, can we refrain from these types of jokes please?
  8. Here is a link to the tailgating policy someone asked me for: http://news.ucf.edu/UCFnews/index?page=article&id=0024004105bd60439010c0c76ce2f00669f Hope everyone shows up to have fun and be safe. Be nice to all the cops you see!
  9. Can you link me to wear it says we can't have kegs? I was under the impression as long as everyone was 21 and had IDs we were good to go. Sorry, I don't have a link, but believe me.. No kegs, glass bottles, funnels, drinking games like toss boards etc.. There were 40+ arrests last game also for underage drinking just fyi.
  10. Kegs and glass bottles are not allowed, just fyi. and for god's sake, please refrain from the "bullet proof" comments. I lost my friend last year and don't think that is too funny... Thanks in advance.
  11. Holy COW! I have to check the temperature in hades..... am in agreement with sm*zza...
  12. Keep equating him to a thug ..... That makes your stance look even more ridiculous. I made it clear up there that it was just me not making a big deal out of something that probably happens to regular college students daily. It's part of college. It was a stupid MISTAKE but you guys are acting like he raped and killed a coed. Did you all live at home during college?? I agree Triple B, he is not a thug from what I have read. I am sure he did not plan this big crime of drinking and getting behind the wheel. He did break a law but the best thing is that nobody was hurt, he (and USF) will get past this, heck- he could even become the President of the USA!
  13. And it has been far more consistently proven that using a mobile phone while driving impairs a driver more than the most common levels of intoxication. far more consistently? cell phones have been around how long? so are you saying they both impair the ability of a driver to pay attention to what they are supposed to be doing? (driving a car?) I would agree with that. Furthermore, 65% of accidents are caused by individuals with over a .15 and there's no evidence (Freeman 2005, S. Levitt per a personal email to me) the .08 limit forced on states has had any impact whatsoever on fatalities, indeed, DUI fatality rates have remained constant since about 1997. This does not address the evidence that a person IS impaired at .08 and I think we agree that impaired drivers are not desireable on the roads? But you know all that, and I'm sure you know about the notoriously inaccurate nature of Breathalyzers in general, so I won't even bring that up. I would advise any diabetics or those on the Atkins diet to refrain from Breathalyzers, as even the NHTSA admits this.  Breathalyzers assume an average crit level that is in no way the same in every individual; women are particularly at risk of false positives since a machine that assumes a crit of 47% is rating at the very top of where the average woman would be (most women are 35-47% crit). Breathalyzers are pretty accurate but are only used for DUI AFTER an arrest in Florida. An arrest based on probable cause determined by an officer on the scene so your next point is moot. But again, you know all that. "[...] activities designed to intimidate or coerce a civilian population, influence the policy of a government through intimidation or coercion,[...]" Title 18, U.S.C. Threatening to withhold needed highway dollars for the implementation of a state policy is the very definition of coercion. So now coercion = terroism? So by your definition all laws should be terriosm if they try to coerce people to behave a certain way by intimidating a civilian population with the threat of withholding dollars or even jailing offenders? pretty easy takedown on that argument.. this if fun! Look, I love cops, and trust them, so much so that I TRUST THEM MORE THAN I TRUST A MACHINE. Not to mention field tests allow the official to spend more time with the suspect and get a better bearing on his or her faculties. Unfortunately, due to being in a hurry, or whatever, it seems that it's "pull 'em over and get 'em to blow" nowadays.. it certainly has been in my case (and every time, I was stone cold sober... but read .02...) Hmmmmm... I think I see the problem here..... : ;D
  14. BTW, the police need probable cause to pull over someone for DUI.  The person must commit a primary offense - weaving, erratic driving, broken tail light, etc.  They cannot pull you over for leaving a bar.  Any lawyer with a night school degree could beat that charge.  Now if they watched someone stagger from the bar like a drunken fool and then jump behind the wheel, then they can pull them over. DUI checkpoints are also have a narrow legal line.  The police must annouce them and their location 24 hours before they set up one.  They cannot just set up a road block on a whim ala Dukes of Hazard and start pulling people over. BELIEVE ME ALL THE COP NEEDS IS A LITTLE "CREATIVE WRITING" TO HAVE PC FOR A STOP AND DUI CHECKPOINTS DO HAVE TO BE ANNOUNCED but a couple deputies sitting running "traffic enforcement" does not huh, so a police officer is going to risk his/her career (not to mention thier own freedom) to falsify an arrest affadavit, make an illegal arrest, and then perjure themselves on the witness stand to get a misdemeanor traffic conviction on a person they know to be innocent. hmmmm... riiiiiight. and MADD is a terrorist organization??? LMAO... Since the beginning of Mothers Against Drunk Driving traffic alcohol related deaths have FALLEN, thousands of lives have been saved. It has been scientifically proven that most people are impaired at a .08 breath alcohol level. It is amusing the statements that are made against public safety officials and organizations dedicated to making our roads safe. I was speaking to a group of convicted drunk drivers one time and one of them stood up and said it was societies fault (their drunk driving) because we would not allow bars to be built in neighborhoods so that they could walk home. hahaha... I wonder what color the sky is in some peoples worlds. If you truly think MADD is a terroist organization (like the PLO, HAMAS, IRA, or Al Queda) may I suggest AA? This kid made a mistake. I am sure he is a good person who just screwed up (alledged), we have all made mistakes. Many of us have also been impacted by drunk drivers (having family members killed or injured). Don't be enablers for bad behavior and attack Public Safety people. I know the coaches sure don't. Also if you are going to "sleep it off" put the keys somewhere else in the vehicle, better yet give them to a friend, better still call a cab or the safe ride guys (if they are still in operation at USF).
  15. I agree USFMike, we used to have a good program for them when I was there. And for ALL of USF teams.
  16. Mike, just fyi.. Everyone consented to take breath tests or any test required by law when they accepted their license. Most people who do the tests in the field pass them and are not arrested. Refusal to take tests can be used in court to show a consciousness of guilt. So a refusal in and of itself is incriminating. A refusal for breath or urine also is cause for a 12 month administrative suspension (not 6 months) or 18 months for 2nd refusal. If it is an accident case w/injuries (or death) then the police have the right to take blood by force if necessary. Everyone makes mistakes, he should just man up and admit that is what happened in this case. I agree that in the midst of a season the players need to cut down on the partying life and focus on being the best student athletes they can be. He can get a business purposes only lic. after going to a dui traffic school (for school, work, etc). I saw too many USF students dead or injured from drunk drivers in my years at USF. Also, you do not need to be driving, you can also be in "actual physical control" of the vehicle (getting into it with the keys in your hand) and be convicted of driving under the influence (see florida statute 316.193). Impairment is the standard (demonstrated effects on ones ability to walk, talk, make decisions) you do not have to be falling down, toilet hugging, "I love you man" drunk. If you are under the age of 21 your license will be suspended if you are over a .02 breath alcohol level as measured by a portable breath testing device that USF police have and use at the scene once they determine you are NOT dui. Hope this helps answer any questions you guys might have. Stay safe and GO BULLS
