  1. It's been a long time since we've been this competitive with any UConn women's hoops teams. They literally have five girls that are Preseason All-Americans in their lineup that are up for Player of the Year (obviously Buecker is the X-factor for them). Maybe we're better than our 23rd ranking... or UConn is finally going to have a down season (by UConn standards).

Courtney is a class act who has represented this university well. In addition to her athletics, she was the conference student scholar-athlete her senior year.  Breanna Stewart of UConn who got a degree in something irrelevant called Sports in Society.  In contrast, Courtney graduated with a “real” degree (Criminology), although there is a bad joke there somewhere, given the food truck incident.

An example of how Courtney is a class act - in her last regular season game as a Senior, she kept passing the ball to fellow Senior Micah Kroll, who had spent her four years on the bench. When Micah (finally)made a three-pointer, the Sun Dome exploded in cheers. I’ll never forget that shot! Courtney could have padded her numbers, but instead was a good team mate who passed the ball to someone else to give them a chance in their last game. When I reminded her of that when visiting with her the other night, she just smiled.

Her jersey deserves to hang in the rafters, and I wish her the best in her future endeavors.

    Go Bulls

It should already be in the rafters. Only Wanda Guyton could hang with Courtney... two of the best we've had play on our courts.

  3. Love his heart... hate his inability to make form tackles play in and play out. If I were Spencer, I would show him this thread... and then I would show him how many missed tackles he had last night due to shifty ball carriers turning their hips on him when he came in to make a big hit versus a form tackle. The kid has an incredible ceiling - however he needs to go back to the basics. He should take the afternoon and watch the linebackers from Wisconsin play today. Grier is faster than those linebackers, however they do the little things that make them successful. Those little things got Kawika Mitchell to the NFL. Unless Grier changes his game and brings a lunch pail to the field each day, he's not playing on Sundays. Let the flash hitters play at FSU and MIami. Give me a guy consistently consistent. Re-watch the game last night and you'll see what has had me fired up all evening.

  4. Spencer is not the answer. Place the defense in position to make plays. When they fail due to a lack of talent (presently), at least you're coaching them up. This bend, don't break nonsense just leads to inevitable failure. Let these QB's torch our secondary on the deep ball (you still have to be accurate on the deep ball). It's better than playing eight yards off the wide receiver and allowing them to play pitch and catch with the QB. The last thing a wide receiver wants to do play after play is think about his initial moves on his route becomes the cornerback is playing man coverage. Typically a DB is going to be more physical than a WR. That physicality will take it's toll on the WR during the game.

Look at our wide receivers. We have some great wide receivers - however you can tell they're not used to getting beat up play after play after play based on them continuously checking out of the game after getting tackled.

Spencer's philosophy is failing our guys - and their lack of talent exacerbates the issues. And please God, work on tackling drills. Stop attempting to make an ESPN type hit on a ball carrier. We look foolish giving up extra yards because we lack the ability to wrap up a ball carrier.

3rd and 20 was the end of the game.

I paused the game for an hour right before that play as we were celebrating my mother-in-law's birthday. When we came back to the couch, I looked at her and said this play will determine how the rest of the night goes. She's like "what do you mean?" I told her we lack confidence and a 3rd and 20 situation for average defenses means the offense is punting on fourth down. For bad defenses, they find a way to shoot themselves in the foot. Cinci popped off an 18-yard run which made going for fourth down a no-brainer for the #2 team in the country versus a team with only two wins. It was pretty much downhill the rest of the way for us.

  6. Same old song and dance. Instead of making a form tackle that you're taught from your first days of playing football, our guys are looking to make those "big" hits. However when you have talented players on the opposing sidelines, those big hits are few and far between with a quick turn of the hips. Antonio Grier is a textbook example of how NOT to tackle a ball carrier properly. Yes, he's the heart and soul of the defense, however if you focus on his game, it's not about making the form tackles you see from prominent linebackers across the country. It's literally Grier racing over to make a big hit, ball carrier swivels quickly, Grier goes glancing off the pads. If he focused on wrapping up the ball carrier instead of demolishing him, maybe it will catch on with other players. Is our DC on the hook for this weekly travesty - without a doubt. However the players have to buy into the system. Tackle ball carriers first - let your overall won-loss record be the highlight reel.

She was introduced between the visitors and home team introductions. Played a montage on the video screen. Spoke with her and her mom briefly in the Hardwood Club.  I know that video is out there but she has been humble and sweet every time we've met. Told her I was her oldest, whitest follower on twitter.  She laughed out loud.

I've never had an issue with her. She's represented USF well and has left everything on the court. I'm sure she would probably laugh about our comments on here realizing most of us are pulling for her. Little adversity in life keeps people on their toes. She'll get another opportunity to get back on the court... if not, she can potentially look at a career in the ring.

Sterlin Gilbert is a decent OC - he was unfortunately bamboozled by the Charlie Strong era (which The Daily Stampede will never own up due to their politics). He's 56th in the country in offense at Syracuse - considering how far that program had fallen, that's quite the improvement. Syracuse was 1-10 last year in Gilbert's first season as OC (with no Spring practices). This year, they're 5-4.

In his one season at McNeese State as the HC prior to leaving for Syracuse as their OC, they improved on their record from the year before (they won one more game and were over .500). McNeese State has since turned into an under .500 team the last two years.

But hey, let's blame everything on Gilbert.

As the regular season begins to wind down, officials need to review Rule 7.1.1.1 in order to administer kicks from the penalty spot correctly.  Let’s start with the basics.  Any player listed on the game roster who has not been ejected is eligible to participate.  There is no requirement that the players on the field at the end of overtime be the ones to participate.  Each team must designate 10 kickers.  The goalkeeper may be one of the ten to take a kick, or a team may designate ten kickers and a goalkeeper who will not take a kick to defend against the kicks.  Please note that teams are not required to specify which orders the players will kick in; the officials should record each player’s number and the result of the kick as the tie-breaker proceeds.  If the tie-breaker goes beyond ten kicks, teams are free to change the order.

The visiting team calls the coin toss, and the winner of the toss has the option to kick first or second.  Rule 7.1.1.2 states that the referee shall determine which goal will be used.  There is no official guidance on what factors to use, but here are a few to consider.  First, what are the field conditions like?  If the area around one penalty spot or goal line is significantly better than the other, use that end.  Second, what about time of day?  Do not make the goalkeepers squint into the setting sun when facing a penalty kick.  Third, which end of the field is better from an administrative purpose?  Are there fans legally seated behind one goal but not the other?  If so, go to the end with no fans.  Try for as "equitable" a situation as possible.  Prior to beginning the kicks, make sure that the designated players from each team are in the center circle along with one of the Assistant Referees, who will record the kicking order and the results.  All coaches and bench personnel should be in the designated coaching and team areas.  The other Assistant Referee should serve as a goal judge, and the non-participating goal-keeper shall be at the intersection of the penalty area and goal lines behind the Assistant Referee.

There's the liberal buzzword "equitable". Not surprising to see it in the rules based on the sport's progressive fan base. My take... if you have home field advantage - you should be able to take advantage of it as the home team. Add another reason on why I dislike soccer.

On a good note, our girl's are heading back to the NCAA tourney.

  10. This is probably the best receiving corp we have ever had at USF. Those players all make plays. Yes, we had a couple drops yesterday, however our receivers that are starting have excellent hands and make circus catches game in and game out. I can't wait to McClain matures and delivers a better ball in space to these guys. It'll be pay dirt. Our future is bright even after taking another asskicking.

Epitome of a straw man argument, nobody is ashamed of a former player that is in the NFL, heck I still respect the late Kenyatta jones that was a practice squad player and was arrested numerous times, he even played hoops for us.  We are simply stating he is a WKU alum and his ties to USF were forgettable and irrelevant.  He was a good dude, he was simply here at the wrong time, the Power O was garbage and nobody could have won here with that scheme.

KJ was a starter in the NFL... calling him a practice player is misleading. He started for both the Patriots and the Redskins. Scott McCready on the other hand was a practice player with the Patriots that won a Super Bowl ring. RIP KJ - miss you buddy.

Oct 31, 2013 - that is the start of 5 straight losses to Houston

White did have a tremendous game though - 26/41 for 311 and 2 TDs

I was at that game and remembered commenting to Mattie Gunz we actually found a QB that could throw a good deep ball. Really don’t remember what happened to his career at USF after that first game - I just remember he didn’t stay too long. Best of luck to him. He was a stud after he left here. Glad to see him having success.

All due respect to Q and BJ….Grothe is  the GOAT USF QB.

Matt Grothe was phenomenal for the program, however I have Q, Blackwell and BJ are all ahead of him all-time. Doesn't do him justice because we peaked as a program during the Grothe years, however we've actually had some very good QB play in our 25 years.

With Q under center his last season, I literally felt like we COULD win every game - the kid was a winner. I believe I'll have that same feeling with Timmy by his senior year if he continues upon his current trajectory (he literally throws a better ball now than Q did his first three years).

With Blackwell under center, I felt he was an excellent game manager even though talent wise, we were clearly outclassed by bigger schools when it came to the two deep. Blackwell rarely made bad decisions on the field.

BJ was the first QB that I felt would rise to the occasion against the big name programs and put the team on his back. Our talent was severely lacking, so it was literally the BJ Daniels show or nothing.

With a cost estimated between $175 and $200 million, this is in line with the original proposed stadium back in 2016. You can probably add on about 10 to 20% in increased costs due to supply chain issues. So long as they construct the stadium with an eye on expansion and the addition of creature comforts, I think it makes sense at this point to pull the trigger.

I'm in construction - you're looking at cost increases around 30% (and that doesn't take into account rising inflation brought to you by Dementia Joe).

The difference is Kiffin’s dad was a great coach and his son has questionable character but he is also a very good coach. Charlie Weis without Brady is a turd and appears his son is as well.  Brad Scott is garbage and his son is a chip off the old block. If we are going this way, for the love of god go Shannahan and not Ray Perkins or Leeman Bennett, but Holtz didn’t work out either so find somebody young and hungry that has won previously as a HC at a lower level soon or we will be at a level so low that this will not be an option in the near future.

I take exception to someone saying Lane Kiffin has questionable character - he's a businessman like most of us. Lane is a dude kids want to play for week in and week out. He's a brilliant football mind and he keeps the heat off the players by making himself the focus with perfectly timed tweets, etc. Imagine if we hired Kiffin when he was initially available vice going with the affirmative action hire Charlie Strong. I highly doubt we would be where we are presently. Strong literally wrecked the UT football program (you have the pick of the litter with recruiting with the UT brand behind you) and then sunk our team to low enough depths where the Big 12 said, "we can't take your hapless program from the Land of Misfit Toys (AAC)".

    In Joey Freshwater I trust.

They're the better team presently hands down. However if we run the ball, we have a chance. Nothing against Timmy - he's going to be great - however Mangham is the heart and soul of the offense... and then you pop off with the little backs and all that speed. We figured out how to win the other day, however Timmy didn't go a full 60 minutes. We're capable of winning the game, I just don't see it going our way.

Tough loss to stomach tonight... weather absolutely played into our favor and the OC failed to take advantage of the elements outside of everyone's control.
We have three elite running backs in the backfield that we can presently give the ball to (two that are small, shifty and lightning quick - and one physical back that falls forward for a yard every time he touches the ball). Yet, we went away from the run all night long on first down, instead relying on the arm of a third string freshman QB making his first start on the road.
What is OC Weis Jr. seeing that we're not seeing? I get he wanted to establish some confidence with Marsh early on... however Marsh really just needed to be a game manager allowing the backfield to churn out yards on the early downs until ECU proved they could stop of us. When you're averaging 6+ yards a carry (which didn't include the TD run they called back), it makes no sense to push the ball over the top repeatedly on first and second downs.

On fourth down, give the ball to #0 and let him pound the ball straight forward if you're going to run the SAME fourth down play game in and game out. Giving the ball to our small backs when the box is stacked against us on 4th and 1 makes no sense to any observer.

This is beyond frustrating. We have multiple playmakers that could have stretched the ECU defense thin if Weis Jr. allowed the running game to develop - however he didn't and Marsh made the typical freshman mistakes once our offense stalled out in the third quarter.

Watching the post game interview this evening with Coach Scott is like watching a Joe Biden press conference. Will at least one reporter ask a difficult question that deserves an answer? Why did the OC turn away from the run when we literally broke every school record last week running the ball? Our running backs are good. Give them the **** ball.
