  1. USF-Pittsburgh Game Re-Scheduled for Saturday, December 4 (October 6, 2004) The University of South Florida and the University of Pittsburgh have agreed to re-schedule their postponed football game to Saturday, December 4 in Raymond James Stadium. The game is tentatively scheduled for 7 p.m. Presently, there is not a commitment for television, but the two schools and ESPN continue to discuss live coverage opportunities for that date. Saturday presents the best possible options for television opportunities. The game had originally been scheduled for Monday, September 6 on ESPN, but Hurricane Frances forced a postponement. “Pittsburgh has proven to be an outstanding partner throughout the discussions regarding a re-scheduled date for our game,†says USF Director of Athletics Doug Woolard. “We certainly appreciate their cooperation and patience in seeing this process to completion. We realize it’s important for fans of both programs to be able to plan their December 4 weekend and we’re happy to finalize the date. We join Pittsburgh in continued discussions with ESPN to keep the game televised as originally planned.â€Â
  2. Am I the only one who thinks that Bruce Gipson is/has been a huge liability on the field this year?  Let me preface this by saying: 1.  I understand he is surely still dealing with the death of his brother, and 2.  Yes, I'll acknowledge that he did have the FG block against TCU. IMO, he has made more timely/costly mistakes this year than anyone else.  He's fumbled 2 punts, fumbled a kickoff, and had one of the key penalties in the USM game last week.  If I was an OC for an opposing team, I'd go right at this guy knowing that he's going to make either a physical or mental mistake.  I cringe when I see a play going his way. Part of this has to go back to coaching.  Why would a player with so many miscues continue to be on the field in crucial situations? I might be able to stomach this if he was a Freshman, but he's a seasoned Senior.  I'd rather tolerate these mistakes from someone who is learning his role.  I understand that CJL has loyalties to his upperclassmen, but please, #19 needs to be on the sidelines, more than on the field.
  3. I would agree.  Under the trees is the best spot.  For those who have had issues with the "paid unreserved" parking at RJS, here is the scoop. We actually talked to the director of parking for the TSA. As many of you know, those of us who pay our $7 to park in the south stadium lots at RayJay, were unceremoniously dumped over to the lot closest to Himes in the broiling sun.  My group, normally 6 or 7 cars, purposely arrives at 4pm so we can park under the trees, and enjoy our food and frosty beverages.  We were told by the guy in charge of parking for the TSA, that there is a security issue with cars cris-crossing through the lots, and that is why the switch occurred.  He definitely presented it as a safety concern over everything else.  We were told that going forward, from 4pm to 5 pm, the attendants would let us park underneath the trees again.  At 5pm, the lot closest to Himes would be used.  I guess we'll see how that all plays out tomorrow.  I would definitely concur with bulldad.  I've been under the trees since day 1, and it is the best environment for tailgating.  By the way, on a side note, does the mall parking lot have port-a-johns? I've sometimes considered making a move from the RayJay lots to the mall, but the pi$$ers makes it all worth it. ::beersign:  ::toasting::  ::drinker::  ::bottle:  ::sick::

  5. Perfectly stated. Agree with you 100%. We need to instill discipline in ALL facets of our program, top to bottom.
  6. While I agree that it would be very cool to have a season wrap up DVD/Video, I would guess that the production costs make it unfeasable to make based on the number of units they would sell. For a bowl season, it may be worth it, otherwise, probably too expensive. ::beersign: ::toasting:: ::drinker:: ::bottle: ::sick::
  7. Quotes from the SP Times.... "They're what we have. It's kind of where we're at," said Leavitt, who is resigned to the two splitting snaps for now. "Until one of them shows they're any good, until one really moves above the other, where you can tell the quarterback can move that offense, until we get that to happen, we're going to keep on back and forth." Still don't understand why Banks would even see the field at this point.  If you're going to split snaps, it should be between Julmiste and Gachette.  Please park Banks on the bench for good. (and don't let Bruce Gipson ever, ever, ever return a kick again!)
  8. I've got a big bone to pick with this... First, it is a very weak excuse to say we shouldn't be on national TV because Pitt is used to it and we are too nervous.  How in the world do you expect this program to continue to grow and gain national respect if it's not on national TV because we're "too scared".  That is just complete garbage.  The only way to get better is to win on national TV.  That will get rid of the jitters.  The more you're on TV the more natural it will become. Second, every, and I mean every big time program has had one of their game times moved around DURING the season at some point.  We should be happy that we're getting 5 months advanced notice.  Have you never heard of ESPN picking up an SEC game two or three weeks prior, and moving it from an afternoon kickoff to 7pm?  Just read your sports section during the season, and you'll see that it happens all of the time. Simple solution to this ********.  Don't most people have a job that gives you a few vacation days?  Take a day off!  Or even half a day off for that matter.  Enjoy the long weekend, and watch the Bulls win on ESPN.
  9. Read on: Bulls' AD Search Continues By BRETT McMURPHY bmcmurphy@tampatrib.com Published: Apr 7, 2004 TAMPA - Connecticut Associate Athletic Director Tom McElroy and Orange Bowl Chief Executive Officer Keith Tribble met with South Florida officials in San Antonio during the Final Four about USF's vacant AD position. McElroy and Tribble are considered to be among the top candidates. Neither returned telephone calls Tuesday from the Tribune. Chuck Neinas, hired by USF to provide finalists to the school's search committee, and USF Vice President Michael Rierson, a member of the search committee, were in San Antonio but would not disclose with whom they spoke. ``I only talked to individuals that may have interest in the position or that USF may be interested in,'' Neinas said. ``It's just a process, like mining a vein.'' Rierson estimated he spoke with at least 40 individuals - either prospective candidates or intermediaries. ``Other than Oklahoma State, UConn, Duke and Georgia Tech, USF had to be the most talked about university in San Antonio,'' Rierson said. ``There was a lot of buzz. I thought there would be a lot of interest in [the AD job], but I was amazed at the extraordinary interest in it on a national level.'' McElroy worked for the Big East Conference from 1981-2001 before being named an associate AD at UConn in August 2001. From 1993-2001, he was the Big East's senior associate commissioner. He also was the Big East's director of communications and executive producer of the league's television network. Tribble, named the 12th most powerful person in college football by Sports Illustrated last year, has been with the Orange Bowl since 1993. He was promoted from executive director to CEO in 2000. He also spent two years as a senior associate AD at UNLV in the early 1990s and was at Florida from 1981-89, advancing to the position of associate AD. Of USF's six official applicants, Michigan State Associate AD Mark Hollis and LSU Senior Associate AD Dan Radakovich appear to have the strongest credentials. ``My mission is to make the USF search committee's job difficult by providing a number of quality candidates,'' Neinas said. ``I think they'll have a strong field to review.'' Neinas is to present finalists to the search committee by mid-May. After interviews, the committee will forward its comments to President Judy Genshaft, who will select the new AD.
