People aren't wanting us to lose, they are saying we should win and there's folks on here loaded up with the excuses in case we don't. How about we stop saying it is ok to lose at home to Tulsa and start expecting to beat middling and worse teams in the aac

Common sense, though, says to realistically expect it when we become a mediocre or better team, which we're not right now ...... hopefully tomorrow is a step towards getting there.
Case in point

So it is unrealistic to expect your team to be mediocre in a year and a half .... in a mediocre or worse conference no less ... gotcha .. so how may years 3? 4? 5? years is that the plan to reach mediocrity?

@Friscobull, this is not direct at you, but this part of your response I want to use real quick. Sometimes I feel that people “want” us to lose, just so they can say “I told you so”. I get it, and I understand how we can feel like this, it has been a really bad stretch for us. With that said, the tone as fans and alumni should be more focused on sending good vibes, encouragement, and mojo to our team. When a team knows that their fan base has their back, it can make a big difference. Negativity, breeds negativity; and positivity, breeds positivity. Yes, progress and success are measured by wins and loses. As supporters, can we say we “support”, if we are counting loses in anticipation of the next coach being fired? Let’s instead encourage and support our team, and find a way to help lift spirits so WE can get out of this hole that we are in.

My bad .... and I should have paid more attention to the way "should" was used. This isn't about the realities of the actual game tomorrow, it's just more grousing about the condition football is in right now, which I get. Hopefully, we do get to the point where we SHOULD be beating Tulsa every year but we're not there now. Reality is Tulsa SHOULD beat us tomorrow but here's hoping we spoil that.
Sure, please let me know what year we are allowed to expect our team to beat mediocre football teams ..... at home no less ...

So what is the Tulsa coach and their fans thinking playing USF?
Who cares?

Why? They were 6-0 in conference last year, we were 0-7. What has transpired this year that we should now, all of a sudden, be better?
1. We shouldn't have been 0-7.
2. They are 2-4 this year.
3. We are supposed to be improving and have had 1.5 years to improve. It's not like we snapped our fingers and said ok now we are better.
4. It's Tulsa. If we can not beat them and worse yet as a fan base we do not expect to beat them every year, then shut the doors or go FCS

This fan base(what’s left of it) has gone practically 2 years without an FBS win. To expect CJS a year and a half in to his tenure to find a way to beat a 2-4 Tulsa at home after a bye week is not unreasonable. If said win doesn’t occur, it wont be unreasonable to criticize and question.
I guess I’m old school, I judge progress by wins and losses.
Agree 100%. If a year in a half isn't enough time to get your team good enough to beat Tulsa, then there are some legit questions. IF we are ok with that, then maybe we should start discussing shuttering the doors on the program or moving down to FCS and playing at Corbett

I'm pretty much in the camp that who starts with the ball the second half is usually of greater importance than the opening kickoff ....
This appears to be the general consensus

cousin-these guys simply dont know the game and /or the current college football landscape. It takes years to turn a loser into a winner. It cant be done in one year.
If anything the "current" landscape allows for quicker turnarounds than in the past, but it definitely doesn't take 4 years to turn a program around in the aac

Well what would the excuse be if we lose to a BAD Tulsa team, at home, with our players almost healthy, and two weeks to prepare? Maybe I expect too much, but it looks really bad for Scotty boy if we lose tomorrow. Especially for someone preaching progress and "enough is enough".
He's playing both sides of the fence. Dude criticizes when he feels like it and then criticizes other fans for doing the same.

Tulsa may be a BAD team but by all measurements at this point we're a BADDER team than they are. At some point in the building process, you've got to start beating teams that are perceived as better. That may or may not happen tomorrow but even if we lose, hopefully we see signs we're going in the right direction like there were at SMU ...
They shouldn't be "better" than us at this point ... especially on our home field and after 2 weeks.

Yeah and it isn't like our basketball facilities are crap either.
Why is it a struggle to be consistently good at anything in the AAC?
You mean for us because other teams have figured out how to stay competitive at least

Yes but the present is abysmal so the drop won’t even be noticeable, so strategically we have positioned ourselves nicely, consistency is taking hold and it is getting easier and easier to lose.
I really don't see how we can go any lower
10 minutes ago, Friscobull said:Well said, I am not sure I am excited because if we crap the bed then it verifies we got the wrong guy and we are screwed, today i still have the faintest glimmer of hope, in about 28 hrs that could all be gone and the season and our future is toast. CJS seat will be warming but fortunately for him the interest will be gone and he can milk out a few more million before he leaves the place in shambles.
We win tomorrow

What difference does it make now, the damage is done and we are destined for a life of purgatory no matter who is brought in and who is not. I am to the point that I simply want is to win a ******* game, 2 years is about 2 years too long.
Really doesn't matter now ... but there are those that claim that picking a program up doesn't help them propel forward

AAC Commissioner Mike Aresco responds to C-USA letter, realignment and murky future for conference
2021/10/13 at 6:05 PM - KEVIN REYNOLDS - THE DAILY CAMPUS
excerpts:
"As the American Athletic Conference continues to figure out its increasingly murky future, Commissioner Mike Aresco once again found himself at the center of conference realignment talk this week."
"Aresco spoke about realignment, expansion and the overall direction of the American Athletic Conference at a media availability Wednesday."
"After Boise State declined to come to the AAC, there are no obvious schools to add to the conference that would significantly heighten its profile."
"Aresco instead pointed to a new model. Instead of bringing in established schools, he believes the conference can survive by bringing in lesser schools and raising their profile once they are in the conference."
“I think what is sometimes overlooked is what the American Athletic Conference has done in elevating programs that may not have been at the level they’re at now.”
“In terms of the conference, our goals and vision have not changed. I think once we reconstitute we’re going to continue our approach. As in trying to become an autonomous six conference.” Who's he kidding?
https://www.smudailycampus.com/sports/aa...conferenceSo bringing a team into our conference and putting them on the same level playing field we are on helps them to rise up as a program? Where have I heard this before? How about FAU or FIU? Maybe we could create a cute little rivalry and one day both of us will be taken to the P5 promised land as a package deal

It almost seems like those two basketball programs exist to ensure that USF doesn't finish dead last every year. They are to AAC basketball what UConn was to AAC football...
