Just another reason why we need the OCS. We won't have to go through this any longer.

    This really shouldn't happen.

Agree - No having to deal with TSA staff is reason #275 why we need an OCS.  Not allowing the see-thru bags that used to be OK is just the latest issue…inconsistent enforcement of this new rule is frustrating.

Would seem to me that plenty of students would be available to work concessions an the OCS.  As an Army ROTC cadet in the late 80s, I was “voluntold” to go work concessions at the Sun Dome.  Actually wasn’t too bad, got to see Stevie Nicks backstage once. She definitively looked different in person…🤔

For the OCS, another good option would be to use the same firm that provides the staff for the Yuengling Center.  Professional for the most part, and many of them have been there long enough to where you develop relationships.

    Bulls Unlimited digital radio to continue on TuneIn app;

Louk to lead football radio broadcasts for 26th season

TAMPA, AUG. 29, 2022 – USF Athletics has finalized a three-year radio partnership agreement with COX Media Group that makes 100,000-watt 102.5 FM The Bone and its high-definition counterpart, 102.5 HD-2, the flagship stations for USF Football broadcasts starting this fall, Vice President of Athletics Michael Kelly announced on Monday.

102.5 FM The Bone Radio Announce"We are very excited to announce this new radio partnership with 102.5 The Bone, their enthusiastic management team and on-air talent," Kelly said. "Their 100,000-watt, over-the-air FM signal reaches from Pasco County in the north to Naples in the south and east to Orlando and, of course, our digital radio station will continue to be heard worldwide on the TuneIn app. We are looking forward to working closely with The Bone in promoting our programs and growing Bulls Nation across the Bay area and beyond."

USF – one of the first two universities in the nation to launch its own 24-hour, digital radio station – will continue to broadcast on its digital outlet, Bulls Unlimited, over the TuneIn app and other digital radio platforms. USF Football games will air live on 102.5 FM and also on its high-definition sister station 102.5 HD-2, which is available on most receivers made after 2016.

The Bulls Unlimited digital radio station will continue to carry all USF football games and nearly all other USF Athletics radio broadcasts to a worldwide audience.

"The partnership between The Bone and USF football is just a perfect fit," said Director of Operations for Cox Media Group, John Brennan, a USF graduate.  "I couldn't be more excited for the growth of our brand and to be able to feature such a strong Tampa Bay sports product for our great listeners."

Jim Lighthall and Darek Sharp return to host the pre- and post-game football shows. USF Football game broadcasts will feature a two-hour pre-game show – with the first hour on Bulls Unlimited only – and a one-hour post-game show.

Lighthall also returns as the voice of USF men's basketball and will again be joined by Johnston on the broadcasts. Sharp returns as the voice of USF women's basketball and will again be joined by Brigid Merenda on the broadcasts. USF men's and women's basketball will air on Bulls Unlimited and 102.5 HD-2.

USF opens the 2022 football season this Saturday, taking on BYU in a 4 p.m. kickoff at Raymond James Stadium. The game can be heard live on 102.5 FM/102.5 HD-2 and Bulls Unlimited digital radio on the TuneIn app.

Glad to read that Sam Barrington is still part of the broadcast team. He bleeds green and gold, but doesn’t hesitate to call out those that need it.

  3. Very sad to read about this. I followed her on FB, and her professional career up in Wisconsin seemed to be going well. It was so much fun to watch her and Micah Kroll (The Tampa Two) play, which was not very often. To me, watching them play is what college athletics is all about - kids that know they aren’t going pro, and rarely got to play, yet worked hard and gave their all for their team and their school.

    RIP Neena

Never been much of a Joey Knight fan. For the most part, I think he was a lazy reporter when he covered USF full time. He also gives off a bit of a snarky arrogance, but I do have to give him credit for triggering the Oviedo CC fans on Twitter. He went out of his way to mention in a tweet that our IPF was "bigger than UCF's." It was a pretty unnecessary comment and was obviously just done in an effort to get their internet trolls riled up. It worked just as expected. They are, without a doubt, the most insecure fan base in collegiate sports. Props to Joey for playing the game. He set the hook and they took the bait, just as expected. So easy. Then he doubled down by mentioning again how big the IPF is in a second tweet.  🙂

I thought that JK’s tweet was great practice for Oviedo CC fans to complain/whine/freak out for when we open the OCS (which I have no doubt will be better)🙂🤘

:unshun: Take it for what it's worth, and I don't know why I'm even ****** bothering, but someone in Athletics told me that the Big 12 has indicated that the controlling of our revenues by having our own stadium would be advantageous. :reshun:

Also only worth two cents, but I heard the same thing from someone in Athletics.  My understanding is that the Big 12 didn’t like our current revenue stream that we get (or don’t get) from being at Ray Jay.

Looks like ucf hc left for Georgia

Georgia has hired former UCF coach Katie Abrahamson-Henderson as...

Best news I’ve heard today. Didn’t like her, but I respected the fact that she rebuilt Oviedo State’s program. I didn’t think that she would stay there for a long time, as her resume attests. I just expected Danny White to hire her at Tennessee first chance he had.

This is why I like CJF - he bleeds green and gold, and is in it for the long haul.

Maybe she'll offer him a high ranking position.

We’re going to need a new Provost soon, so maybe he would take the job. Regardless, I like that Law is emphasizing the OCS.

Quick story about the OCS - I was at a banquet this past weekend, and I had a conversation with an Accounting professor from Webber International University. It’s a small school (700 students) located in Babson Park, just outside of Lake Wales in Polk County. They have had a football team for about 15-20 years that plays in the NAIA. After sharing a football stadium with Warner Southern University, Lake Wales High School, and youth football programs, Webber recently opened an OCS (although calling it a stadium might be a stretch). What caught my attention, and the reason why I’m mentioning this, is that she told me that since they opened their OCS, there has been an increase in school spirit, and alumni have been more engaged. I was impressed that an academic made this comment. To me, it’s a good example of why USF needs an OCS. I think that Law can get it done.

Our coach doesn't have a problem with her so I guess I don't.  BUT, after they beat us in Ft Worth - no handshakes. After they lost to UConn last night - no handshakes.  I think that reflects on the coach.  She seems to be fostering a different type of sportsmanship over there.

I was wondering about the handshakes - thanks for the info. Typical UCF behavior, unfortunately.  While I’ll acknowledge that she has rebuilt that program,  I’ll be glad when they leave the conference.  Would be happy if we never played them again in any sport. Of course, that would then annoy them, which would make me even happier…

Jose schedules tough OOC opponents to help build RPI (or whatever metric they use now) and get a decent seed in the tournament. Not a lot of highly ranked teams in our conference especially with UConn gone.  Had we not lost that game in Texas and 1 to Tulane and all 3 to UCF we'd have probably been a 4 to 6 seed.

I know why CJF schedules a tough OOC; my point is that perhaps he was trying to play too many games against tough competition.  When was the loss to UT Arlington?  Five days after the Stanford win, which was 2 days after the Oregon win.  Did the ladies have enough time to recover after the big wins for the UT Arlington game? Based on the final score, I’d say not. As you pointed out earlier, that loss hurt us in seeding, and somewhat negated the earlier wins.

I agree with you about conference competition. Don’t know if you were there, but at one of the pre-game talks, I asked CJF his thoughts on the new teams coming in the conference.  Don’t remember exactly what he said about the quality of the other teams, but I clearly remember him stating that he expected the new AAC to become a one-bid league.  What does that mean? He’ll have to continue to schedule a tough OOC.  I just hope that he doesn’t try to do too much in OOC, and cause the team to burnout early as a result.

I also realize that CJF has more experience than I do in coaching WBB, so I’ll defer to the expert…

  10. While I’ll never complain about a 24-win season, it does seem like this team had a drop off, and could have accomplished more. My theory is that they tried to do too much in out-of-conference play, but who knows?  I thought I remember hearing something about Sydni getting hurt.  That’s only one player, though.

One thing that I am frustrated about is our lack of local recruiting.  The conference player of the year, Diamond Battles, played her high school ball at Winter Haven High School, 49 miles away from the Yuengling Center.  Another UCF starter (Tay Sanders) played her high school ball at Bartow High, 44 miles away. I understand CJFs recruiting strategy of getting 5 stars from overseas with international experience.  For all I know, we may be recruiting locally and just not getting kids signed. However, I’m watching UCF on National TV, and our girls have cleaned our their lockers, so I think that their is merit in local recruiting.

Recruiting local helps build up the fan base also. I’ve seen more and more UCF fans at our games against them as they have improved their program over the past few years.  In contrast, I doubt that we’re getting many season ticket holders from Portugal, Croatia, or Cameroon.

As previously mentioned by others, the team is losing some key players, so it will be interesting to see what CJF puts together.

Going to enjoy Baseball and Softball now, and will look forward to another great season of WBB next year.

Talley had to spend his entire military career in a classroom.
Talley holds a Ph.D. (Civil and Environmental Engineering) from Carnegie Mellon University, an Executive M.B.A. from the University of Oxford, an M.S.E. (Environmental Engineering and Science) from The Johns Hopkins University, an M.L.A. (Liberal Arts – History/Philosophy) from Washington University in St. Louis, an M.S.S. (Strategic Studies) from the U.S. Army War College, an M.A. (Religious Studies) from Assumption College, and a B.S. (Forestry - Natural Resource Management) from Louisiana State University. He is a registered Professional Engineer (P.E.), a Board-Certified Environmental Engineer (BCEE) in Sustainability, and a Diplomate, Water Resources Engineer (D.WRE).

Don’t underestimate this guy. You don’t get to be a Lieutenant General  (3-star for the civilians) without being an exceptional person.  As far as his career, he wasn’t just an academic or a staff officer. He is a Ranger School graduate, and they don’t just give those tabs away. Do some research, and you’ll find out how difficult that school is.

He commanded units at every rank to get promoted to the next level. His last assignment was the Chief of the Army Reserve (CAR), where he was responsible for 195,000 to 200,000 soldiers, with a budget in the Billions.  He may not familiar with local and state politics, but he knows how to operate in a political environment. As the CAR, he spent time on the Hill advocating for the Army Reserve. Unlike active duty types, reservists have to juggle two careers, so to be successful in both is an indicator of his abilities.  My spouse has attended Army-related conferences with his spouse, and she speaks highly of her. He would be smart enough to hire Rhea Law as a Special Assistant, and task her with building the OCS. I would be very happy if Law got the job, but Talley is a good choice also.
