I threw that in for effect .. could you imagine getting your butt kicked by the Shockers

Your intent was successful… unfortunately, MBB has a 1-9 record against Wichita State.

I get that Wichita State serves a balance for Navy (which is only in the conference for football), but I think that they should have been made to restart football as a condition of joining the AAC.  To me, they have an unfair advantage - every other school in the conference has to fund football operations, and they don’t.  Reason # 472 to get into another conference IMO.

I’ll get off the soapbox now.

We should worry about the key metric of "wins" before we worry about how many people are actually at the game and sitting in their seats when the camera scans the stands in the 2nds quarter of another beat down at the hands of Tulsa, Temple, Wichita State or whatever football powerhouse is in our conference at the moment

I would hope that we wouldn’t lose to Wichita State, given that they shut down their football program in 1986 (according to Wikipedia, the source of all truth(sarcasm font)). At least XCJS didn’t lose to Wichita State… lol

  3. Harlan’s Utah Utes beat Goodrich’s Gardner-Webb Bulldogs 103-77 Friday night. Guess Harlan wins the bracket.☹️

Happy to see that others thought highly of Goodrich also. Maybe he’ll be back on Fowler Avenue someday.

Currently watching ECU vs Texas. Nice to know that our young ladies beat both these teams this year.

  4. Here’s an interesting matchup - 15th seed Gardner-Webb, whose AD is Andrew Goodrich, is playing 2nd seed Utah, whose AD is Mark Harlan. For those that don’t know, Goodrich used to be an Associate AD for us. He left us to go up north somewhere, and is now at Gardner-Webb in his first AD job.  I’m sure everyone on this board knows who Harlan used to work for…

Except for one time when he had his secretary return my call (instead of him calling) I didn’t have any problems with Harlan, and thought he was ok. Better than Woodard, who acted like he was doing you a favor when you talked to him. However, I really liked Goodrich, and hope that he will come back someday as our AD/VPA/whatever they decide to call the job.

It’s March Madness, and I’m cheering for Goodrich to win the former USF ADs/Associate ADs bracket.  Who do you like? Harlan or Goodrich?

  5. Brito should have been the Freshman of the Year. That play where she went over the courtside seats to go for the ball, then ran down to the other end to get the rebound was reason enough right there to get the award.  Asensio and Gonzalez should have been on the Freshmen team also.  As a Bulls fan, I’m obviously biased, but we’re in good shape for the future with this class.

    Some schools rebuild; USF reloads…

If you haven't been to Annapolis, I'd vote there. I was also at that Stadium Series game and it was indeed awesome but a lot of that had to do with the special experiences surrounding the game and the huge presence of Bolts fans. Annapolis is just special, historically speaking and would definitely take one of the walking tours if possible, and the stadium experience with the midshipmen is great ...

Agree! Was there for the 2015 & 2019 games.  In 2015, we stayed in Academy lodging (nice facilities), and went out on a 74-footer in the Chesapeake. Bunch of USF fans on the boat; had a great time.  2019 game was not as competitive, but still had a good time. A brother officer that I went thru USF Army ROTC with has a daughter up there, so we go up there to visit with her also. While this old soldier expected more precise and crisper movements,  the entrance of the midshipmen is still impressive.

    A must-do if you haven’t seen a game there!

  7. Was at the game - lots of fun, beating them handily in their house. Reminded me of when we used to beat them by 40-50 in their house frequently in the past, and we would have as many fans there as they did. They actually had a decent student section tonight, until we pulled out ahead, then most left at halftime.   We had a good crowd, with many wearing green

I realized that this is probably the only time I’m going to actually miss playing Oviedo State, as it’s the only chance I have to sit directly behind the bench. CJF is a trip to watch and listen to.  On one play, Asensio was dribbling the ball down the court. Puisis is open, in front of the bench. CJF points to Puisis, and yells at Asensio - “She’s F***ing Open!”  She passes the ball, and Sammie makes a three. CJF is a trip; would hate to see him mad…

The team played well, but could have played better. Will take the win!

    Yes.  Definitely.

Agree! With tonight’s win, I think that they have now won 11 in a row. Six more regular season games left, and then hopefully 3 conference tournament games. Can they get 9 more wins and hopefully get a 4 seed and host the first round? A lot to ask, but I think that this team could pull it off. CJF said tonight that they have going at it for 14 days straight, but that a bye week is coming up. Maybe that’s why Elena didn’t have her best game.

February is going to be fun!

Remember Courtney doing that in a game once. Really sucks not being able to be there in person. The one team we really enjoy watching and we're done for the year. Which reminds me, need to cancel Ft Worth trip.

Agree - thought of Courtney when Elena did that.  She did not have a good night, but that shot made up for it!

  10. To me, Neena was what college athletics should be all about. She rarely got to play, and wasn’t going to go pro, yet gave it all and was loyal to her school and her team. It was special and a lot of fun when she and Micah (the Tampa Two) got to go on the court.

Hoping that USF athletics does something to recognize her and honor her memory.

    RIP

I think they left off the O on purpose to troll us on the number of conference championships we have....

I was thinking that they left off the O because it would remind them of their 3 winless seasons lol

  12. This retired soldier was cheering for the Cadets today, and what a game!  However, since Navy is in our conference, I’ll support them the other 364 days of the year (except when we play them). Navy deserves credit for playing in a conference (whereas Army is an independent), and kudos to the Midshipmen for beating UCF, in the Oviedo House of Tin, no less.

Agree with others that it would be great to have Army in the conference. Only makes sense for a military academy to be in the “American”.  Doubt ESPN would allow App State to join, due to lack of market size…

  13. With tonight’s win, they are now 6-0. Even more impressive is that 5 of the 8 that played tonight were freshmen. Lot of basketball to be played, but this team is  looking good so far. Another good job by CJF of putting a team together.

During the 1st half, Wilson had a nice play where she intercepted a ball that was lobbed down court. Made me think that perhaps she should be given some pads and go play DB at RayJay Saturday night… why not? 🤔
