That #B1G would take #Terps & #Rutgers, but didn't want #Mizzou screams emphatically that this is 100% about television market size.

This is the only reason why USF has a fighting chance.

In my opinion, television market size, along with perhaps educational reputation would be the only reasons why USF would be considered.  I think our reputation as a quality institution of higher education would pass muster with that conference.  The big problem would be whether or not the ACC would take a chance on a school with virtually no mens' football or basketball following of any note.  The empty stands tell the story!  However, forward thinking conference officials might realize that those stands just might become full and the beginning of a real "Bulls Nation" might come to fruition if real football teams, so to speak, start coming to the Ray Jay on a regular basis.

Also, what about UCF?  Sorry to say, but they are more deserving than we are at this point.  No respect!

This game exposed him (officially). He doesn’t know what to do with talent, so what will he do with a young and less talented team next year? He’s Skip Holz Redux. Really, can’t go through that again. He needs to go!!

In my opinion, he seems to be another overrated coach on the carousel of coaches who will leave here as soon as the next Power Five conference team makes an offer to him.  Again in my opinion, if he is still here for next season, it wasn't his choice to do so.   Think of this:  It took an entire season for the USF football team that we thought that we had coming into this season to show up for a full game.  'Relentless intensity and passion for all four quarters on both sides of the ball."   This was most certainly not the case in the first ten games of the season.  Corralling our amazing quarterback to some extent all season was no way to win a conference title.

Good points. I prepared myself with the strong possibility of a loss but actually thought it could have been worse. I know it is a loser mentality but I am a lot less pissed of than I was after the Houston loss.

My sentiments exactly.  That's because, for once, they gave their all.  For some reason, it took until the last game of the season for Strong to get his players to play all four quarters.

Best War on I4 game ever!!!  Flowers showed out tonight!  Sucks that we lost, but we couldn't have asked for a more entertaining game on national tv!

    Props to the knights

What a terrific game!  As strange as it sounds, this loss was more satisfying to me than any win that we had this season versus sub par competition.   For the most part, our Bulls played great tonight.  For the first time all year, both the defense and offense played with intensity and emotion for all four quarters.  This was the team that I thought we had before the season began.  Give credit to UCF.  They are a good football  team  and earned this win.  You could feel the electric atmosphere of that sold out crowd inside that stadium just watching on television.  And, when the fans lighted up those flashlights, wow!  If this game doesn't convince the USF administration to put a OCS on "fast track," then nothing will!

Only team with a winning record that we've beaten this year.  The AAC teams are all terrible aside from Houston.  Every other team on our schedule is sub .500 and many  are way under that number.  We knew going into the season our schedule was going to be bad, but I don't think we knew our league brethren would be this horrendous.  Beating the Tinmen would be nice considering all of this mess.

As a friend of mine said, our Bulls are perhaps the worst 9-1 team in the country.  I concur.  Unless of course, we somehow find a way to beat UCF.  Strong has to finally let "Flowers be Flowers."  That's what Taggart finally did and probably wound up in Oregon because of it.

With so much riding on the line for USF on Friday, it got me thinking if we have ever been in a game with more on the line?

This was supposed to be USF's year, we were the school who everybody picked to win it all in the AAC, and then UCF has overshadowed us by week 6... That said everything can change on Friday when we win.

I know we were #2 once, and had a huge game with Rutgers... no USF fan will ever forget that.

I know we could have beat UConn and maybe sneaked in to a BCS bowl I think in 2005 or 2006.

I just feel like winning this game at this moment will be the biggest step USF can take for the nation to look at us as the G5 team on top. that is... until we play Memphis :-)

Or maybe just too much Green and Gold adrenaline pumping through my veins!!

    Go Bulls!!

This is no doubt a big game, but USF vs. Rutgers was bigger.  I was there.  It was a night I'll never forget.  That great, close game loss most likely deflated the team.  At the time, no one could believe that we were #2 for that brief moment of glory.  If memory serves me correctly, I remember Jimmy Johnson on television shaking his head, indicating no way we should be number two.  Had we won that game, I think that we would have won out and wound up in the national championship game (vs. Ohio State?) in a year when there was no clear cut best team.

    7:30 PM
    Raymond James Stadium (Tampa, FL)

Congrats to our Game 9 winner,  @bullsfan27!!

The Contest: Your mission, should you choose to accept it, is to select the winner for the week's USF football game - as well as make some tie-breaking prognostications. Prizes await, as does the respect and admiration of Bulls fans worldwide.

    First...the rules:

    1) You must be a registered member of this message board.
    2) You must completely answer the contest questions.
    3) Post must be submitted prior to published game start time.
    4) There can be no modifications to your post after the published game start time.
    5) Your prediction must be part of this original thread.

For additional contest rules, please read the small print below.

    And now, the contest:

For the Bulls game against the Hurricane on Thursday, November 16, please select the following:

    1) The winning team
    2) The final score
    3) Bulls leading rusher
    4) Bulls leading receiver
    5) Bulls total offensive yards (closest without going over)

Please try to keep in the above format so that it will be easier to manage. Sample response would be:

    1) South Florida
    2) 80-3
    3) D'Ernest Johnson
    4) Marques Valdes-Scantling
    5) 450

After posting your entry, please feel free make your case for your picks, or predict other aspects of the game. It will make the thread much more entertaining if everyone gives their reasons for their picks, and make predictions on other aspects like special teams, rushing, or what to expect from Quinton Flowers.

Important:  The winner will be decided with the first and second prediction items. I am looking for the person that comes closest to the actual score, not simply the margin of victory. If more than one person is correct, or equally close, we'll go to item three. Closest wins. If still tied, we go to item four - if still tied, item 5. After that, whoever gives the best reasoning, and pre-game analysis wins.*

The odds of both CCS and Frost remaining at their respective current jobs are very low. At least one of them will leave, I feel.

CCS: our attendance numbers and competition must be disturbing to him. To go from crowds at Texas to USF must be disheartening. When he came in and spoke of the OCS, he had visions of building USF into something special. But the realities of our community support and budget crunch (non-P5 money) must have made him think a bit. My question is how committed he is to USF vs. how committed he is to his career?

I certainly can see CCS taking an SEC job to get better attendance numbers and all of that, but it won't be what he had at Texas. But then Texas is one of the top programs in the country --maybe even deeper pockets than uf.

As for uf offering CCS, that's a retread hire for them. One would think they want more with what they have to offer. His results at Texas must have to weigh heavily in their plans.

Frost, he needs to go undefeated to get the uf job. If he goes undefeated, it would be insane to think that he's going to stay in Orlando. "What more can I do for this program if I stay?" I mean he could stay put and commute to uf.

If he doesn't go undefeated, Nebraska is there if he wants it. I bet he can get it now. But I don't know how loyal he is the current program.

I think you are spot on with the "attendance numbers" turning good coaches off, who might otherwise want to remain here.   That is the sad thing about our Bulls.  'Such a large university with virtually no following and a "Bulls Nation," the foundation of which still has not yet been established.  We have yet to experience a real moment of athletic glory since the inception of the university.

A little surprised to hear Taggart being mentioned. Can you imagine Taggart and Leavitt in Gainesville?

I have nothing but gratitude towards Jim Leavitt for building the USF football program from scratch.  He was passionate, just about always kept his teams motivated and in an era of the carousel of coaches, he loved just where he was.  Although I don't like the way USF and Coach Leavitt parted ways, sadly I don't think that as a head coach he had the ability to take us to the next level.  I can imagine Leavitt just about anywhere as an inspiring coordinator or defensive coach.  Regarding Taggart, let's see what he does up at Oregon the next couple of years or so.  'No way he gets the UF job in my opinion.

I think they go after Frost

If Frost was smart, he would stay where he is.  If Frost continues to win at UCF and Strong likewise at USF, perhaps they both go as a package to the Big 12, assuming that Texas and Oklahoma depart in the near future.  Unfortunately many of these egotistical football coaches don't understand what the term "quality of life" means.  Lots of pressure and way high expectations accompany jobs like UF.  Did not the great Urban Meyer need a year off after coaching there?  Remember, Greg Schiano was a king at Rutgers.  Go 8-4 or better every year up there and stay as long as you like.  And, you know the rest of the story!

The CFP selection committee is a travesty.  They might as well only have 1 poll at the end of the season. Only expanding to 8 teams can salvage it; P5 conference champs + highest ranked G5 + 2 at large.

To save college football, they need an 8 team playoff.  Start the season one week early and eliminate the bye week.  The top seven teams are based on the rankings, like now, multiple polls, strength of schedule, etc.  The 8th seed automatically goes to the highest ranked team of the best of the rest of the non-power 5 conferences.  Now EVERY Division 1A football team has skin in the game.  The dream is alive for all, just like in college basketball.

I think Houston would have had a better record had they started the quarterback they used against us from day 1. He had over 300 passing and 40 yds rushing last night.

Houston is not a bad team.  They played both Memphis and Texas Tech well.  ' Could have won either game.  The Tulsa loss was a mystery and should have us somewhat worried about which Tulsa team will show up this week to play us.

It was not "quitting".  It was our new conservative nature AND playing some second string for experience.  I was shocked, but pleased actually, that QF was still in the last 2 series with a 3 score lead.

Bad move by an overrated head coach.  Why risk injury with the game in hand.  That's how Grothe's career ended prematurely.

    We have trick plays?

We tricked many of the pollsters in ranking us as high as they did, considering our unbelievably weak schedule until the Houston game.  I can't help it, but I'm still sore about that ridiculous loss against the only above average team that we faced thus far.  UConn will play us closer than expected, but we will prevail in that one.  Tulsa could give us some problems and even sneak by us if we don't come to play.  As for UCF?  That one could be really ugly.  A highly motivated and focused team during our next two games could go a long way in helping to prepare us for "the war on I-4."

  15. 17 hours ago, JupiterBull said:

It's actually true.  This sucks, but if we run the table...meaning UCF and Memphis (or whoever in the AAC champ game), we would surely be the highest ranked G5 team & hit the Peach Bowl.  Odds are a bit long...but no longer than they were before we gifted that game to Houston.

By "sarcasm" Jupe, I meant "are you kiddin me?"  Based upon our adventures in our first seven wins against weak teams and our ridiculous loss against Houston, I don't see it happening.  UCONN is a trap game and no way we stay within 17 points of UCF.  Memphis would most likely manhandle us also.  I can only go by what I see.

Frost is headed to Nebraska.... I'd love Chip Kelly here

I sincerely doubt that Frost would take the Nebraska job.  Big Ten or not, would he and his family really want to relocate there after living in Orlando?  My guess is that he becomes the next Florida head coach.  Unless, he proves to be one of those rare individuals (Like Jim Leavitt was) who was actually content where he was.

Chip Kelly would never come to USF.  If he were to, it would be a home run for us if he actually stayed for a few years.  'Great college coach.  One of the best!  Like Schiano, not meant for the pro game and players' egos.

We all KNOW Strong is here for a cup of coffee. I want someone who wants to be here...

He wanted nothing to do with the fans yesterday on his walk to the stadium

I read people daily doing business... he is absolutely disinterested in USF, especially yesterday... I would not be surprised if Florida has already reached out and part of the negotiations mentioned in this article with Coach Mac has to do with Strong's buyout

If I was Florida, I would contact Frost, not Strong.  Strong is 0-1 at USF.  No explanation needed.
