Those plans, as Slive has stated publicly, are contingent upon the Big Ten making a major move that would change the balance of power in college athletics.According to Hyams, Slive told CBS executives in a recent meeting that the league’s goal would be to keep pace with a 16-team Big Ten by pursuing Texas, Texas A&M, Florida State and Clemson. If Texas and Texas A&M cannot be lured in, then Miami and Georgia Tech will join Florida State and Clemson on the SEC’s wish list.In the latter case, the league’s goal would be to “own the region.â€More of the article at:http://www.mrsec.com/story/report-sec-already-eyeing-six-teams-for-possible-expansion

Guest
If the Big Ten takes 3 Big East teams (Pitt, Syracuse, Rutgers) and the SEC takes the 4 ACC teams mentioned, there would be 13 teams left that could form the Big Atlantic Conference:Boston CollegeConnecticutCincinnatiDukeLouisvilleMarylandNorth CarolinaNorth Carolina StateSouth FloridaVirginiaVirginia TechWake ForestWest VirginiaWho else gets added? The ACC can't be 13... The key would be delivering new cable markets, even if the teams are 'second' in those markets to other schools. Best to look at states not represented by the 13 teams listed above, with schools not in a BCS conference:Tennessee (Memphis, to a lesser extent MTSU)Louisiana (Tulane)Mississippi (Southern Miss)Alabama (UAB)Texas (Houston, to a lesser extent Rice & North Texas)Ohio (Pick from among the MAC teams)New York (Buffalo)(okay, so Ohio and NY are just a joke...) Also, TCU could be a candidate, although they'd probably go to the Big 12.
tampabull Posted May 22, 2010 Group: Member Topic Count: 0 Content Count: 771 Reputation: 2 Days Won: 0 Joined: 11/30/2009 Share Posted May 22, 2010 what happens if the big 10 only goes to 14 teams like I think they will. at least at first. why would the big 10 gamble by adding 16 teams. if the expansion doesn't work they will dilute the money made by the network. That is why they will probably start out smaller expansion maybe even 12 with nd or nebraska, and then get bigger if it works out.
