sure tackler?

when somene was breaking away from the entire defense--- you could always count on Mike Jenkins to catch him from behind and bring him down-- saving a TD.

But no-- let's focus on the whatever negative crap you negative idiots find so important. THe NFL couldn't care less if he was a dominating tackler--- he will play corner back and be expected to run down players, stick with the fastest players on the field-- not show people he can hit like **** Butkus. Some of you jokers are just unbelievable.

ungrateful people-- Mike Jenkins has been there since day one busting ass. He has earned his stripes and I wish him well whatever he decides. I love these people talking about sure tackling as if they even know how to make a **** tackle themselves. I wouldn't mind having him around one more year but f he can jump early and make it-- so much the better FOR HIM. Why risk getting hurt next season and never getting NFL money? He has a family to think about.

MikeG has anger management issues.

Good grief, man!  If you're referring to my comments, youh really ought to take a step back and just chill.  I said one more year would do him well as far as working on getting back to the tackler he used to be, but I didn't say he wouldn't make an excellent NFL CB.

In fact, Mike Jenkins has been one of my favorite Bulls ever during his time here.

If you weren't calling me an idiot, then disregard this.  But if you were, then let me suggest you step back and think twice about speaking so "authoritatively" on something you know literally nothing about (i.e. my feelings on a player).

I also had the chance Tuesday to talk with junior cornerback Mike Jenkins, who is pondering leaving after this season for the NFL draft. Jenkins, much like running back Andre Hall and linebacker Stephen Nicholas, appears to be taking the careful, cautious approach to leaving early, and he told me he'd likely return to school for his senior year if the league's advisory board for underclassmen tells him he's unlikely to be drafted on the first day of the draft (first three rounds). If he's a first-day pick, he'll likely give the draft a try.

from Greg's blog.... food for thought before we start giving him any crap over this.

Giving who any crap over what?

Jenkins for possibly leaving early?  I see nothing worthy of making a guy like that feel guilty for doing that (if he does).  Although my personal opinion is that he would help himself with one more year at the college level, couldn't blame the guy too much.

I would hope he's looking to be a 1st or 2nd rounder only.

First day pick locks up a contract and signing bonus not first or second round.

Our defense is beginning to sound like it will be outstanding for years to come.  How exciting is that.

I love the sounds of an outstanding defense.  The athletes on that end of the ball could live up to billing.

Another year in college is never a bad thing for anyone, however there comes a point when one must get set free.  I just don't get the people that question Jenkin's tackling, might want to notify the staff since he's consistently been called their most complete corner.  Jenkins has always been easy pickin's for some because he's had some boneheaded moments at USF, but the reality is he's one of the hardest workers at practice (along with Trae Williams), a very self-motivated player who has tremendous athletic ability and makes tackles.  He's not the greatest tackler, but often that has to do with the fact he's handling the wide-out who runs the deeper patterns which will take him away from many line plays.  He's a great corner, I personally believe Williams has developed into one that's a bit more complete but I still would say if the game is on the line and we've got a pitch and catch situation then I want Mike Jenkins lining up at the line covering that receiver.  Sorry but 6ft corners that run 4.3 do not grow on trees, ask Anthony Henry how much it is worth in the NFL.

No ones giving him crap people are just saying he could be a higher pick with some more seasoning and improving in some areas.

FYI: Mel Kiper has atleast 10 corners ranked ahead of him.

In another thread I indicated that I thought Mike Jenkins would do himself a favor if he stayed for his senior year.

Assume he can see himself being taken the first day in the draft, what happens if he is let go by the team(s).  The diploma is a must.  It can give him peace of mind knowing that he has options available to him, especially if the NFL isn't in the cards for him.

Regardless, whichever way he goes, I will say Good Luck Mike!!!!

speed with little skill and deciplin is useless

he needs one more year to relearn his punishing sure tackling skills from his freshman year.

he could move from last two rounds to first day and $millions by staying..

hope he is getting good advice.

nicholas did and i hope it pays off big for him

Where do some of you come up with this stuff...'little skill' are you crazy?  This kid has led USF in passes defended for two straight years all the while typically covering the oppositions best receiver.

As it stands if Jenkins came out there's a chance he would get selected ahead of Nicholas.

I agree with the highlighted portion.  Jenkins was not only a sure tackler as a freshman, but he was at times a punishing hitter.

He's got plenty of pass defending skills, definitely.

But when did he decide to become a Deion Sanders-like tackler??  And why??

So I hope he stays for his final year.  It would be great for us and for him, I believe.

It really would be great for USF one way or the other.  If he leaves early that means his draft status is probably 3rd round or less, and maybe an outside shot at a late 1st- no BS that's what 4.3 speed gets you.  He goes real early that also is great for USF, have two starting corners that are first day picks in the NFL- Henry and Jenkins.  Good story to tell recruits.

I'd hate to see him go, but Gilliam is faster.  I still don't know where some of you think he's Sanders?  Jenkins has had some sticks this year, the pop on Cornish behind the line, or Kinder against Pitt.  The real point is 6ft corners that run a 4.3 don't grow on trees.

he needs to stay

he isnt that good

steve-o why don't you let the experts tell him that since you've proven time again your opinions are worthless.

Like I said a 6ft corner with 4.3 speed is a hot commodity in the NFL.

With the climate going on in NCAA athletics, you’re either moving forward at a hard pace or you’re not. I think what intrigued me the most is they’re very determined to become a big player nationally.
