As much as I am still upset about how the Houston game ended, I am happy about how our offense played @UConn. Q had a RECORD day passing. Perhaps, we learned some things from that loss which can help us going forward in our remaining games.

In reality, the loss to Houston only affected where the CCG will be played.

We would STILL have to win @UCF before playing that game.

If we can win @UCF, I feel pretty confident that we can win @Memphis.

I believe we have won our last six road games.

I need to watch it again. I remember not being impressed by what I saw. But maybe my eyes were still mad from the previous week.

  2. My real concern is this. Let's say that all those who believed that USF had been holding back all season were right. Fine. But for the Houston game, that should have been the game that unleashed whatever that was held back.

Offensively, that first half really turned my stomach. I'm not going to get negative here, but it was bad from my eyes.

Could better play selections and good offensive planning have made a difference or athletes vs. athletes negate everything, like when 'Bama plays LSU to a low score?

I really don't know; I want to give the OC the benefit of doubt. But other teams had torched Houston plenty.

I wish I knew more about football to answer this for myself. I only have green N gold goggles to guide me. Via that, I think we've been sputtering like crazy!

  3. Okay, we've had time, so let's look at this objectively now. I'm referring to the Houston game. Why? It relates to the future.

We know Houston had similar athletes and talents. But does that explain the game?

Am I wrong to assume that had Taggart been at the helm in that game, like when he was last year @ USF, that the game would be different, offensively speaking?

  4. Tennessee just entered the dance. They have deep pockets, too. Well, deeper than most P5 schools.

It's going to absolutely come down to how loyal CCS feels about USF.

With just a one-year stint where he didn't build anything and it will be a rebuild year next season, I don't know the answer.

If it were me, I'd never leave USF. :roflmao:

  5. The odds of both CCS and Frost remaining at their respective current jobs are very low. At least one of them will leave, I feel.

CCS: our attendance numbers and competition must be disturbing to him. To go from crowds at Texas to USF must be disheartening. When he came in and spoke of the OCS, he had visions of building USF into something special. But the realities of our community support and budget crunch (non-P5 money) must have made him think a bit. My question is how committed he is to USF vs. how committed he is to his career?

I certainly can see CCS taking an SEC job to get better attendance numbers and all of that, but it won't be what he had at Texas. But then Texas is one of the top programs in the country --maybe even deeper pockets than uf.

As for uf offering CCS, that's a retread hire for them. One would think they want more with what they have to offer. His results at Texas must have to weigh heavily in their plans.

Frost, he needs to go undefeated to get the uf job. If he goes undefeated, it would be insane to think that he's going to stay in Orlando. "What more can I do for this program if I stay?" I mean he could stay put and commute to uf.

If he doesn't go undefeated, Nebraska is there if he wants it. I bet he can get it now. But I don't know how loyal he is the current program.

  7. Defensively, what's different this year? I think we are letting our best athletes loose and letting them play their game -and being aggressive. Last year, I don't even know what sort of philosophy that was.

Offensively, QF is almost the only one who is allowed to do stuff. Everybody else is on a fixed pattern of some kind -complete assignment football.

Whenever our players break out of their assigned stuff, you see good things happen on the offense.

  8. Comparing USF vs. UConn, and SMU vs. UCF ==== I would give the edge to Both SMU & UCF right now.

I don't like how we play. Granted, we lost a heart breaker. But we are not firing on all cylinders.

Tell me something that we do really well all the time. Okay, maybe stopping the run. Anything else?

  9. There are two arguments here.

    (1) A top-25 team is a top-25 team, regardless of who they play. Now, if the team loses, well, that's a problem. With that argument, we should have dropped but should still have been ranked. If we were from a P5, I bet we would still be ranked. Many of those 2-loss teams are well-known brands.

    (2) Wins and losses matter. How is it fair that we lose on the last plays of the game and lose all the credibility of being ranked since the preseason?

As for scheduling, however you slice it, USF is 7-1 and is not ranked while teams with worse records are ranked. We weren't blown out; we lost on a freak play.

All I'm saying is that you put a team like FSU in our shoes (free or paid, doesn't matter) and they would still be ranked.

  10. I was just thinking about how they dropped us from the AP poll after one loss while plenty of 2-loss teams are ranked. Has the college football landscape changed since USF Football's inception back in 1997?

I know the AP poll and the Coaches' poll are put together by individual humans (I hope they are human!), but it seems to me that college football has changed a lot since 1997 and there after (after we got to #2 in the land).

I think the P5 model has made it so that everything is about the playoff and the rankings of those contending teams and the P5, and any team outside of the P5 are given less -a lot less- respect.

We got to #2 via the BCS model. And, yes, we beat ranked teams to earn that ranking.

But I'm really surprised how we were one of the darlings of the preseason and after one loss, we are dropped like a date with VD.

    (1) Do you think college football has changed with respect to ranking respect and all of that for non P5 teams? Boise back in the day wasn't a BCS team but they got their equal shots --when they beat OU that one year?

    (2) Do you think if USF Football started in this current landscape that we would have been this successful?
