  1.

I AM LOADING UP ON MSC ON 4 TEAM TEASER

    easy money

    usf will get slaughtered

how can one expect anything else

their offense last week put up 12 points on the 74th rated scoring defense from last year.

they are practicing with 4 QBs to find a starter. they went a combined 17-37 for 116 yards.

have fun giving up 23.5 points on a team that only averaged 20 points per game last year.

This is why I cannot see Floyd starting this game.  If ever there was a game to play the safe bet (Eveld), this is it.  You cant have an offensive unit out there making mistakes in this game.  We are sure to have poor offensive output in this one no matter who starts but you cant give their offense life with turnovers.  Eveld is the safer play here.

  2. Say what you will about McNeese talent, but they had the team 1st thing going.  They executed their game plan and it resulted in a beatdown of a USF team in disarray.  If Michigan St is having their own difficulties deciding on personnel and sorting through issues, they could be vulnerable much like we were week 1.  23 points is an absurd spread and being driven by Joe Q Public's betting, I doubt anyone in the know would lay those points to take a team with no clear QB and a questionable offense.  Can USF's defense stay disciplined?

  3. I admire the sentiment, but scolding the upset fans will change nothing.  Your points are well made however.

Try to step back and look at things more objectively.  When fans boo, they are still caring about the outcome.  If this type of play continues, the fans will stop booing eventually, resigned to the failure they have seen.  You will eventually have USF students that know nothing other than losing over their time at school.  This is not unique to USF although it doesnt necessarily happen everywhere.

Eventually, you wont hear booing anymore, because people stop coming to the games.  The Pitt game last year with regards to fans enthusiasm was the worst.  You knew we were going to lose and it didnt matter anyway.  I think the program got a reprieve with Coach T.s hiring.  If this kind of effort continues, by the SMU game people wont even bother.

  4. Anything of note mentioned today?

Not really as far as I could tell being a non-Bulls fan.

And I didn't learn anything more about McNeese that I didn't already know.   And, if I didn't know anything about McNeese at all, I still wouldn't  know any more about McNeese than I already knew.     ;)

And, yes, I do realize it is a South Florida coach's show for South Florida fans.

    Standard,

    Doc

Yeah and I believe this is his first radio show as a coach here and we are coming off of a nuclear meltdown season... I think the focus was on reconnecting with fans rather than the matchups.

Coach came in and said his hellos, introduced himself to my 10 year old daughter. Had maybe 40 to 50 people in the building. Once the season gets going and students get engaged things should pick up.

  5. Fletcher Av would probably have to be 6 laned to both Interstate interchanges before an OCS would be  allowed at USF,,,lots of other major improvements would be needed in vicinity of campus before permit to build OCS would be allowed.

The work on Fletcher is being done now and doesn't include additional lanes as far I am aware.

  6. Make fun all you want, but I'm being serious. This is my first year as a season ticket holder and as a student, we would all walk in minutes before kickoff and be there just in time for the football players to take the field and what not. Is there something else I've been missing all of these years???

Its because the fans are notorious for being late arrivals, giving the image of an empty stadium around kickoff time and projecting a bad image for the team/fanbase.  Im guessing as a student you were expected to know this.

  7. "I think the problem isn't team losing as much as it is the Bucs. They've slashed ticket prices, and if you give Tampa the option they'd rather pay $2200 for 4 Bucs tickets (10 games) than 1000 for 4 USF tickets".

I used to have Bucs tickets( had them in the old and new stadium, lived thru the Seat deposits, The 10 Year lock in to get the money back, The Glazers getting greedy and killing the fan base, I dropped the Bucs tickets a few years back when I got my Seat deposit money back and haven't looked back.  They call me weekly practically begging me to buy again, But I wont as long as the ownership is in place. Just in case you haven't noticed the Bucs have struggled the last few years with attendance( see the black outs and the lack of attendance at games).

I don't think money(ticket price) is the issue for USF.  USF has some of the cheapest(most affordable) if not cheapest season tickets in all of college. You could get season tickets last year for under $200  a year per seat.  (That's practically giving them away).    They also don't required Annual donations for the lower priced seats either(Upper deck, End zones ect..) They have made it VERY AFFORDABLE for most ANYONE to attend.

Our issue is/ was Skippy and the conference affiliation.  Hopefully both of those will be fixed soon or in the process( Coach T and a new conference or us competing for Conf Championships)

Id add that Gator/Seminole/Canes/(insert college program here) fans are also Bucs fans so the potential market is much bigger.

These other school alums/fans arent likely to seek out USF games but instead watch their school Saturdays.

  8. If they were to build either south of the Sun Dome or north of the practice facility, Athletics would have to buy the fields from campus rec (yes, it may all be university property, but these departments have to 'buy' the property because they are part of their budget).  It also means Campus Rec would demand money for a new sports facility with fields (possibly with more softball fields). Not sure if they would have room for something like that on-campus or they might look to FSU who built a massive field complex off campus (5 softball diamonds, 21 fields, 4 of which are for lacross & rugby). Again, not sure if the university has the money to buy land elsewhere in the area to build something like that.

Property can most certainly be reassigned, swapped or transferred between departments if the University wants it to be.  This is not two separate entities where one needs to be made whole.  It is cheaper to build on the open campus rec fields than it is to redevelop land with existing facilities, the rec field would just end up somewhere else.

The bigger obstacle is the Patel building and what is planned around it.  If the plans (which I obviously havent seen) do call for an expansion of the footprint of academic buildings around Patel then a stadium in that area may not be possible.

  9. Following the FAU model, does USF have any assets they can leverage? FAU got badly needed on campus housing in the form of private dorms and had a naming rights deal before the student body revolted against administration and the deal got nixed, naming came after the stadium was built. Beyond land and naming rights the only other resources I can think of are philanthropic gifts, state money (doubtful). I do not think USF would want a huge bond offering as they are not forced to build an OCS like FAU was. The only way I see USF having their hand forced into an OCS is if a big 5 conference had it as a condition of acceptance.

  10. All the chatter in this thread reinforces the idea that these two schools are rivals.  Aside from the outside world wanting to make this a rivalry, I think some of you are in so deep you dont even recognize this mutual hatred and lack of respect as exactly what constitutes a real rivalry.  The only thing missing is enough history to create the memorable games, plays and events to become legend.

Trying to set yourself apart from your shadow doesnt make it go away.

  11. The problem in this area is there arent enough contiguous vacant parcels to build.  The space between BG and USF has been desired to be many things over time; research park expansion, OCS site, recently USF Tampa campus had to be passed over for a potential medical facility (I forget which, biotech maybe?) all because while the location is ideal, there just isnt enough room that already hasnt been spoken for around.

This area is in serious need of redevelopment and infill, with the university mall being candidate number 1.  Downtown Temple Terrace cant even get a glorified strip mall built with a huge government subsidy and I dont think a Riverwalk (absent any natural attraction) type place would either work or fit.  It would be great to see something done with it however.

  12. A couple quick things. First - the current lease for Raymond James has an out for USF should USF decide to build a stadium, with 2 years notice it can be broken at any point in time. Since stadium construction would take 2 years, we basically can get out whenever we want. So there is no urgency to get out at a set year (since even if we had to sign a new deal, the clause would remain). I am pretty sure USF views the TSA as a partner and not an adversary, and the deal is pretty fair to us. In reality the unfair deal is the Bucs lease, and the people who are getting screwed are taxpayers, not USF.

Victor is a Bull, for those who don't know, he married a former USF quarterbacks sister (Anthony Severino, who played mop up duty against UCF in the grand beat down at RJS). Victor is also a politician whose single vision is cleaning up suitcase city. If you look, it is his mission and something he devotes so much time towards. In my opinion he is speaking about his greatest passion in life, which is a safe, modern cleaned up suitcase city ... and not what USF is going to be doing. USF obviously wants the neighborhood to our West cleaned up, so VIctor and USF are partners in this. But Judy is also a very smart woman, and I seriously doubt that she would sacrifice USF's well being to enable VIctor to tear down suitcase city and replace it with things like football stadiums. Of course the great equalizer is money ... and VIctor used to have millions set aside in government money for suitcase city redevelopment, so if we are getting a free stadium, then suitcase city is in play ... but lets be honest ... Victor's clean up suitcase city slush fund doesn't have stadium money sitting in it, and if he spent every dime on USF he would probably he run out of government.

USF fundraising for a stadium would be very public, very quickly.

I think the OP heard VIctor's vision for a cleaned up suitcase city and not a hard plan for the future of USF.

By the way, putting all the rumors aside, I heard of 2 possible sites for a stadium on campus. First is just South of the Sun Dome, the idea here is that you put it where the parking lot for the Sun Dome is, and then build a few big garages around the dome/new stadium to replace the lost parking. Roads get slightly moved to go around the stadium. This location is appealing because it shows off the stadium on Fowler and keeps the athletic facilities nicely grouped together. If you look at the long term plan for the campus, they have a stadium place holder on this spot.

The second spot is just South of the Greek village, taking out a small parking lot, and the tennis complex (which moves just East of baseball and softball stadiums). This location is sort of a response to what UCF did with all the shops and restaurants surrounding their new arena (which is awesome for those who haven't been on their campus in a while). The idea is close to dorms and incorporate some shops and restaurants that are open every day.

These are the only two places I have ever heard a USF administrator talk about putting a stadium, and of course those can change. But places like University Mall and suitcase city have only been spoken by non-USF people.

Putting the stadium in the current athletic village of the other sports facilities makes a ton of sense.  You move the earth around to get it in the right spot, because of the size of the investment you want the best possible outcome you can get.  I disagree with any compromises on location for the variety of reasons that have been floated.

The OCS needs a high profile and preferably high dollar donor champion.  Someone to get the money flowing from others.  If this thing is anything less than a showcase facility, in a highly visible and accessible location, it becomes harder to sell.  If one exists, Id be interested to see the newly configured plan for the area next to the dome and Fowler Ave.  The entrance across from MOSI needs a big facelift if this happens.

  13.

I wouldnt be surprised if most of this hasnt already been decided and is being leaked slowly to create news or ride the attention wave.  Those three schools were floated more than 2 weeks ago by an MSU guy.  Based on what I read, Ill call it now and he lands at MSU barring any last minute shenangians

  14. Depressing but fair article. One thing that jumped out at me was: "The lack of football tradition and game-day environment at Rentschler Field (capacity 40,000) did, according to an ACC source." Game day environment DOES matter. Not saying that we build an OCS now, but those of you that say it doesn't make a difference either way seem to have been proven wrong, at least by the ACC.

Ive been to both and can say despite some similarities, USFs current gameday environment is considerably better than UCONN.  Putting 'The Rent' in East Hartford may make it closer to urban areas where satellite campuses and some alum exist but it doesnt feel like traditional college football in the least.  Storrs is a college town, with high numbers of 'traditional students' at the state flagship university.  There was plenty of room to build it there.  Gampel pavilion does phenomenally on campus.  The student body isnt apathetic towards football in the least but make them drive more than 20 miles to get to the game and it just wont be the same.  I have friends who are UCONN alum who look for any excuse to get together and they wont even consider a FB game.

USF has fewer on campus students so Ray Jay may actually be easier to access for many as its centrally located.  The facility is one of the best in football, its always warm and the tailgate always does well (even better than the game sometimes).  Im surprised the student section is so empty for some games.

I agree USF should move toward an OCS but its a better situation than some we are being considered against for conference jumping. UCONN will never be tapped for a move up based on football.
