I think Eveld can be a Brad Johnson type QB, not flashy or mobile, but can do enough to win you some games.

Going forward, what games will those be?  Louisville has arguably the best defense out there and a Brad Johnson type isnt going to get it done.  Louisville will score on us and we have to put offensive points on the board to be competitive.  5 days later Eveld may still be the starter going into Houston up against a true freshman we recruited whose got a 5-0 team.

After those two games Id argue Evelds college career is effectively over as a senior unless Bench cant come back.

We wont be competitive with Louisville and Houston without an offense that isnt significantly better than what weve seen this year, so Eveld needs to break out in a big way.

We have already seen 2 better defenses then UL - Mich St and Miami.  Not knocking UL but their D isn't at those teams level.  Now their O may be the best we see all year.

Louisville is number 2 in FBS in total defense, and number 1 in scoring defense.  Im not understanding what you are basing your opinion on.  You can knock their opponents if you want but remember, one game each for Mich St and Miami have already come against USF and its near last offense, which includes McNeese and FAU games.

  4. Being that its not blacked out of ESPN3 , the following piece of information could be useful to some interested in watching the game.

If I have access to ESPN3, why don't I have access to WatchESPN?

WatchESPN requires a video subscription from an affiliated provider. Click here for a list of the current affiliates.

Beginning on August 15, 2013, users accessing WatchESPN.com or the WatchESPN mobile application via an on-campus (.edu) or on-base (.mil) network will receive complimentary access to ESPN3 content.

Guess I could just check my FIOS TV guide for ESPNU tomorrow at noon.

You can't get it on FIOS, unless you have channel 96, SNY, in your package. The game will not be on ESPN U for FIOS subscribers, as I understand it.

So the map above shows its not blacked out, but ESPNU may just broadcast a different game then?  It should then be available on the Verizon Ipad app as the game is not blacked out.

So your inlaws are still wrong. Key Largo is bounded on both sides by the Atlantic Ocean. Oh and the CIA still says Lee Harvey Oswald shot JFK.

Actually, what I said was the my in-laws live in Key Largo and many people in the area refer to "Ocean side" and "Gulf side." And there are a lot of things people use in common speech that are geographically wrong. Say for instance, the University of South Florida.

Geographically wrong, maybe. But we are USF, and being historically right trumps geographically wrong. I decided. :iconic_u_black:  :D  :iconic_u_black:  Any updates on Bench? Has he moved from questionable to probable?

I thought Eveld moved the ball well enough last week that I'm not as concerned as I would have been before the Cincy game. The loss of Shaw scares me infinitely more.

He did quite a bit of it with his feet.  If UCONN watches that game and he scrambles a lot Saturday, I would expect he will get hit.

If he gets injured, Floyd is the backup?  Who backs him up?

  7. I think it has changed - they do require passports.

    http://travel.state.gov/travel/cis_pa_tw/cis/cis_989.html

You are right,  people traveling for this bowl game there would need them.  Id drive to Ft Lauderdale, take the Discovery three day to the Bahamas (which is usually <$100 with port fees) and get in with a passport card which is half the price of the book but still has some wait requirements.  Sounds like a great charter opportunity-

Those traveling by sea on an officially-designated “closed-loop cruiseâ€, meaning that the port of entry is the same port as the port of re-entry upon return to the U.S., may enter using a passport, passport card, or other Western Hemisphere Travel Initiative (WHTI) compliant document

*Discovery stopped doing this in 2011, so unless Id be swimming across, scratch that.

  8.

One other bowl to be played in the Bahamas, which in my opinion will not last long (somewhat like the Toronto bowl game that we took part in).

This is a huge mistake.  Though it sounds sexy and a great getaway in December, the passport issue will become huge for attendance.  A lot of people (especially students) just don't have passports and they are not going to pay $300 to expedite one to go to a football game (if that's even possible with 2-3 weeks notice).

In the past Ive visited Freeport and did not need a passport.  I dont know if this has changed.  If USF played there Id take a cruise ship and make a weekend of it.  You play the game in the local sportsbook as well.

The thing about a game like this is I could easily see either team winning by 20.  If anyone can move the ball consistently on office can potentially blow out the other.

However, neither team can typically move the ball.  So, it could be close, but how bad can bad be?  We'll find out.

For that to happen, someone will need to score 20.  This game has 9-6 written all over it.

This game has Auburn-Miss St's 3-2 written all over it, but never count on two bad teams being equally bad.  University of Buffalo is a bad team, but skunked UConn.  You just never know.

Im just tainted by last years win where BJ got knocked out and I think we won 13-10.

By the way, great article in the Courant about Taggart and new UCONN coach shared history with the Harbaughs

  11. I know we didn't have many people there...but just for a moment it sounded like we had 50k in the stands...felt good to hear the noise.

The defense just manned up and finished off the bearcats there. The defensive played beautifully last night.

We got to yell out all of our frustrations as blocked kicks got brought back to the house, our D scored and sacked and our offense could move the ball and we drilled long FGs.  I enjoyed the missed XP from them also.  The game and this team gave us A LOT to cheer for.

*Edit - I just noticed there was only one credited sack, however they must have counted the Cinci QBs attempted runs as TFLs.  I could have sworn he was brought down behind the line several times.

  12. Huge that this win was over Cincinnati, one of the three Big East holdovers that will be sticking around in the AAC.  Still have UCONN and UCF on the schedule for more 'bigger than one game on the schedule' opportunities.

I thought the defense's aggression and line penetration early in this game set the tone.  There were something like 3 fumbles and the blocked kick all in the first 7 minutes of the game.  We ended up getting points and not letting our TO hurt us.  Absolutely huge.

    Basketball Practice begin today!!!

    Joey Knight â€@TBTimes_Bulls

Looked like Bulls men installed a ton of stuff on Day 1 of practice. Heath: "I really like this group. They're tuned in

Naturally, @Coach_Heath excited about new big men. Since his arrival, 6-8 frosh Chris Perry has gone from 245-266 lbs and not lost a step

6-7 soph Zach LeDay, who played at 223 last year, now at 245, @Coach_Heath said.

Heath on frontcourt: "Their size alone and their athleticism is double where we were last year. So we're already better there."

We got killed underneath last year so the new guys fill huge positions of need.  Its going to be on coach this year IMO, hes got the guys he needs.  Two big OOC games at home this year, Ok State (Smart is gone) and Alabama.  Conference schedule has changed somewhat but still very tough.  The basement is not an option.

Smart is still there as well as Nash. It will be a very tough game!

Your right, hes a potential top 5 pick but not until next year's NBA draft.  Actually those two aren't what did us in that game, it was their 7 footer who we had no answer for underneath gobbling up boards.  We owe them a loss in our building.

The Times is a world class paper IMO, if their business model warrants a paywall to keep the quality of the content, its probably worth it.  There arent many products worth getting nickled and dimed for, but for me this is certainly one of them.

    Hahahahahaha! Good one.

    Then stick to Fox News.

    For those that prefer facts:

The Tampa Bay Times is not only Florida's biggest newspaper, but for the past three decades, the locally owned, independent daily has also been ranked among the Top 10 newspapers in the country. Its outstanding journalism has captured prestigious national awards, including nine Pulitzer Prizes and numerous top honors from the most respected institutions that recognize excellence in the field of professional journalism.

  16. Need a sticky for USF Tampa, Felony Fridays as an ongoing thing. Several building have been locked down FYI

TAMPA — A man with a gun has been spotted near a hospital on the University of South Florida campus, authorities said.

A text message alert has been issued to USF students, warning them to avoid the area near the health building, said university officials said.

USF police has responded to the scene and is investigating the incident.

I know the game is at RJS, but has anybody been to the new-ish on campus FAU stadium? fl-fau-stadium-tou_1088125a_1.jpg

Yeah, it's a nice little stadium.

I absolutely loved the owl noises they pump out of the PA. It's hilarious

I may be risking a lot of angry posts here, but count me among those who think that all mascots are kind of goofy. Might as well make it fun and embrace the goofiness with owl sounds.

At least we have Owls native to Florida.   Never seen a Knight that was native.

We were supposed to be the Citronaughts..citronaut.jpg

And there areSchenllenburger Articles as well as Pellni articles that state theat they were trying to emluate Miami's football program as well

Miami is a private school, FAU is a public school like USF.  I would think it would be difficult for FAU to emulate Miami's building of the football program.  Though I suppose FAU could find itself a Shapiro and a few boats...

The only language Id heard modeling Miami was that in the beginning of the program Coach S. was saying with the amount of local talent they would need to keep those kids home and they could win an NC in 8 years.  Much like his 'State of Miami' philosophy at the U with keeping all the top Dade County kids at home.  FAU is not modeled after Miami other than they had the same coach over different times of his career.

  18. FAU has played their higher tier opponents tough in the the first parts of games over the last year or so but fallen victim to big plays.  As the game wears on, their guys get worn down and their offense looks alot like USF's lately in that they cant sustain a drive.

I have no clue where this game goes.  The kids are the unranked and 2 star talents from the same types of schools USFs three stars come from.  My guess is its going to come down to coaching and who wants it more.  Probably be an ugly nailbiter.  Wonder if their fans will travel better than they did a few years ago.  Duder, is the University organizing buses or other arrangements?  No excuse not to.
