Hah my friend had the idea of getting Milton also.

Need a QB at all costs.  Perhaps 2.

Incoming freshman Timmy McClain may be the answer. He’s an accurate dual threat QB currently leading his undefeated Seminole HS team on a run through the 8A playoffs.

It tough to assess what we saw against Florida College, but my biggest takeaways are that Murphy could be the greatest passing guard in the history of the program and that only running Durr did during the offseason was to the nearest buffet.

URI has guards that can run and without Castaneda I suspect CBG will run more of a "big" lineup with Murphy and Collins handling the ball most of the time. Like the last few years, I am most interested in seeing what kind of offense CBG runs in the half court - this is the change that needs to occur if we are to take than next step.

I suspect our half court offense will be Collins/Chaplin driving to the basket and collapsing the defense with 4s waiting for the kick out somewhere between the midrange and 3pt line. Second chance points will be required. It is very disappointing to see Durr out of shape because getting him the ball in the high post and knocking down the jumper from the ft line is the key to breaking the zone defense. Any team that does not run zone against us should fire their coach.

As corny as it may sound, the only thing that it could possibly be an "investment' in is the student athletes. If you're looking at it in any other way you're treating the support as an entertainment value and I can fully understand not wanting to throw money away on it.

Exactly. I enjoy watching the kids play, and if I could help provide them an education, even better.

You are no longer able to deduct charitable donations to University athletic departments. Even more of a reason to expect a return on investment...

Only if you don’t donate beyond what you get out of your tickets.

My decision to temporarily pull financial support is based on a decade's worth of poor leadership and poor decision making. I will resume my financial support when I see a return on my past investments (progress on facilities and/or a competitive product on the field).

I can no longer blindly throw money at a program that has shown incompetence time and time again. I hope it gets turned around one day and I will gladly give what I can to support the program financially. Until then, there are more important things in life that I'd rather be spending my discretionary time and income on.

If it was an investment, the IRS wouldn’t let you claim it as a deduction.

It will be interesting to see how CBG manages his workload. Can easily see a scenario where he plays only 12-15 minutes a game in non-conference games and then is ramped up to the low 20s in conference.

I'd be shocked at the end of the year if he ranks in the top 3 in minutes played per game on the team.

Also more depth up front this year with a diversity of bigs that you could play at the 4. Easing him in would be smart.

  9. The days of the little program that could based out of a trailer and piloted by a Pepsi fueled madman are long gone. We had 20 years to seriously invest in the program and facilities but we haven't made meaningful improvements. What do we have to show for it? A couple trophies featuring the bare ass of the Roman God of Fire. I say pack it in and focus on the sports that will still actually be playing in the coming decades.
