Lets face the facts that we have been bad in major mens sports for years and other schools have passed us by. While the University focus is on higher education which is a good thing, they have again and again failed to put resources into our football and basketball programs. With the portal open and players now being paid above board I think it is up to our University to recruit alumni to step up and open their wallets. An easy task...nope but one that is required. I for one would start with the offensive line and some restaurant chain to use the horses up front to run some great advertising program. At least in my mind the picture of 10 300 pound guys walking into your place of business would be an instant success. Just my humble opinion.
The negligent higherups are way ahead of you and it didn't seem to make a difference:
USF Offensive Line Gets Official BBQ Sponsorship
The USF football program announced a special sponsorship, with the offensive line getting an endorsement deal with Mission BBQ. -
I don’t think Murphy is the guy to be down on. His FG% is up from last year, his rebounds are up from last year and his assists are up from last year despite this being the worst shooting team in D1. He’s being asked to be something that he isn’t and needs to be paired with a true PG so he can play off the ball much like Chaplin does now. It boggles the mind with all the scholarships available, Gregory couldn’t find a true PG and at least one dependable shooter.

Murphy would be no big loss. He's one dimensional on offense and doesn't create shots for others as a point guard.
Because he's not a true point guard. But, the shots are there off of the penetration, it's just that nobody is hitting them with any consistency.

If Wyoming can kick our teeth in what will Houston and Memphis do to us
Probably not make 10 3s.

The one thing we can agree with is why is Wyoming a decided favorite against us and they are smoking us? This is ******* Wyoming??? I am tired of watching this team get drilled, we suck. I am turning it off, maybe next year or maybe not.
Consistency is a virtue, Merry Christmas Steve.
Wyoming will be playing in the Tournament.

how can we be so bad for so many years?
A fouls against differential of 13 explains a lot in this game. I can’t explain the last 10 years.

Our offense doesn’t provide enough good looks to anyone, you have to create and he is not that type of player. He needs a decent look off a pick and he could get hot.
I disagree. I just think Boggs and maybe some of these other shooters lack confidence and are hesitant to shoot when they gets looks.

Imagine if Murphy and Chaplin had that much more space in the paint to operate. Chaplin showing what he can do as a slasher this game.

Moldanado has been indefensible, he is really good. I just don’t see enough out of Boggs on offense and he is somewhat a liability on D, not sure we can continue to give him minutes.
He just needs to be a threat from deep. I’d like to see home take more shots than he does.

Hanging tough? Boggs sucks, dude is soft and getting worked over
Maybe so, but his success is critical to this offense succeeding. Need him to pull some bodies out form the paint and open it up for everyone else.
Hes definitely been napping on defense today though, but Moldanado and Ike are handling everyone we throw their way.

Wyoming is a top 50 team. Let’s see if the fg% and defense from the last game can be sustained.
-
Finally some easy transition points.
Boggs and Greene knocking down the 3s really opened things up for guys like Chaplin and the bigs.
Great effort on the boards all around.
-
If I see Boggs pump fake or fake a pass behind the arc instead of jacking up a 3 one more time, I swear to god I’m throwing my phone through my TV screen.

I hope we can hold on to Caleb Murphy for a couple more seasons. He was the best player in the floor against a talented team. His talent is being wasted here.

Lot of orange and blue in here. But I think the other 13 USF season ticket holders are here too, so there’s that.

Play basketball in transition and use the strengths of your best players.

Closed out a game with… free throws? I guess that’s progress. Would love to see more of this 2nd half Jamir Chaplin.
I’ll say it after ever game but this team needs to get out and run. Instead they choose to rot on the beach like a bloated whale carcass. Brutal.

Bricks aren't going to cut it. Fortunately for USF, hospital systems raked in profits over the course of the pandemic. However gross that may make you feel, there are now tens if not hundreds of millions at the disposal of universities that have hospital systems. At Miami, it was the golden goose that bought their football program overhaul. Why not USF?

If I could get from my apartment on 50th to a ridiculously difficult 8:00 AM class at the Pharmacy College building behind Moffitt, these lazy ass kids can walk half that distance to get to a football game five times a year. Kids these days.

You think we can afford him? A good DC who can recruit the Miami area will certainly be a hot commodity. Certainly he will get better offers. Would love to see him here, but somehow I don't see that happening....
If he could recruit the Miami area, he’d still be at Miami…

Boggs played well last night though and hit a key 3 pointer in crunch time.
Understood, but also left the open looks in his hands. That’s the offense and he needs to take those shots. He’s more open than he thinks he is.

That D was awful against the run but did produce a lot of TOs.
Edit: reading back through I see this has been covered.

Boggs needs a quicker release. Tired of the constant pump fakes. McCreary looked particularly good down low. Seems more active on the boards and on help defense, though he looks like his conditioning can improve.
Bottom line is you can’t expect to have 4 6 to 10 minute FG droughts per game and beat anybody.
Offensive scheme is hot garbage.

When you shoot 36.9/25.8/59.7 percent as a team you have to do something different to create easy baskets. They need to press a lot and force the tempo. Use your depth and play balls to the wall. This team looks like it will struggle in any game that is played in the half court, no matter the opponent.
Exactly. The kids are playing hard, just need to direct that energy.

He's not a point guard, and neither the coaching staff nor his teammates are doing anything to help him succeed in that role. He's a second-year combo guard with explosive athleticism who happens to be one of the two guys on the team than can bring the ball across half court without turning it over. That's not a Caleb Murphy problem, that's a personnel problem. John Stockton was passing to Karl Malone off the roll in the paint or Hornacek, a 40+% career 3-pt shooter. There are no Malones or Hornaceks on this roster. Tell me honestly how many really bad 3's you've seen this team take this year. These guys are missing open looks.
