I'm far from an expert on realignment. I'm intrigued but don't keep up with it as closely as others. That said, to understand realignment, I think you have to understand primarily two things: (1) how much money a university is bringing in and (2) how does it compare academically to its fellow conference members.

Currently, I'm not sure how Duke ends up with more money in the Big 12, provided it enjoys a portion of any large exit fee/GoR settlement from departing members, and provided the conference TV and CFP money ends up being similar to what the Big 12 gets. And academically, Duke doesn't fit in with the (mostly) rabble in the Big 12. Nothing is impossible, but all signs point to Duke staying with Cal, Stanford, ND (at least, for now), Georgia Tech, and other AAU institutions (Miami, possibly USF later).

Note that for FSU and Clemson, they don't necessarily see things this way. They care less about academics and more about money/access, which seems to be driving their current attempts to get out of the ACC. In fact, that's been their frustration all along - they care more about athletic success than the other denizens of the ACC, but all of the other teams benefit financially from them. But I suspect the president at Duke is more concerned about academics and fielding a strong basketball team and good, but not necessarily great, other teams.

Again, nothing is impossible, but that's my take on the Duke rumors.

Yea, I am more likely to believe Duke to the B1G

It's hilarious that any of you think a conference improvement is in the cards for us. We just had a chance to go to the tournament and blew it by losing to a school that the sun belt would turn their nose up at. This whole athletic program should be burned to the ground before it embarrasses us any further.

We should be dominating it year after year if we expect to move up.  Hopefully we can build on this.

No crap the goal is to win the tourney. I believe in sports winning is always the goal but I could be wrong.

People are genuinely curious about whether or not the team can still make the NCAAT if they don’t win the AAC tourney. The likelihood is probably 10% but this is part of the fun of March Madness.

Yea, I get it, I am just contrasting this thread with the other threads that craps all over this league, or insists we deserve better or that we are better than our conference mates.

On the one hand we deserve to be in the B1G or the ACC but on the other we are not dominating our current league.

The easiest way to overcome these rankings is to win the next three games..

Yea, I am confused, I always thought the goal was to win the AAC tournament.  Winning the league seems superfluous.  I could see if we were in a league that gets tons of invites but it is not so we need to win the tournament.

People around here like to complain about the AAC but have we ever won it for football or the tournament for BB?  Shouldn't we be setting our sites on dominating this league?

I’m with you on this. Like most have said, it’s the B1G, SEC and everyone else. B12 will just get more money because they have all the leftovers. I just want USF in a respectable league and if that means the ACC and have BC, Wake, Syracuse, Louisville and NC State or any other leftovers, I’ll like that a lot more than the AAC. Other than USF, College sports are dead to me because of the B1G/SEC and NIL.

Yea, I just don't see how this ends well for us.  I have resigned myself to be a fan of the team regardless of who they play.  Don't get me wrong, I come here to check to see if my wildest dreams come true but it is a little like stalkng an ex.

Maybe I’m biased or something. To me the rumors that seem more believable are the ones that have USF getting the call up. Everything else seems too far fetched….

I hear you.  I think I'm still spoiled over the Big East invite.  I think it made me, and others, feel special.

In reality we are not and we will only get "called up" as part of a desperate backfill for a dying league; hated for what we represent by those who feel we diminish their prestige by being associated with us.

Honestly, this would be a way more interesting league than what the B12 has going. B12 is a dis functional array of leftovers from the Midwest/southwest. The ACC/AAC/P2/MWC has better markets and teams. I would laugh if this happens and the new ACC becomes more valuable that the monstrosity that is the B12, haha.

I thought that comment was tongue in cheek.

What would the Big "Creme De La Creme" look like?

Standford, Cali, Oregon State, Washington State, Duke, Wake Forest, NC State, BC, Syracuse.... Who am I missing?
