  1. I would have run that same slant as 2nd down, the run there was too predictable. Weaver was interfered with on the slant too I thought.
  2. Timmy's legs keep defenses honest. Hit them over the top a few times, and suddenly we got something.
  3. Complete BS, no way you could see that he maintained possession of that ball.
  4. He *could* have caught it... Wasn't a *should*. Would have been a great play.
  5. That pass looked awful in the air, Weaver made a great play and location was ok, but it was a duck.
  6. I have no idea how you can evaluate all spring and determine he's your qb1, maybe a battle with Timmy, but then he drops all the way to 3? I haven't seen anything impressive out of him, but, was your initial evaluation really that bad?
  7. Probably partially true... But... Either our coach knows they have no talent and doesn't ask them to do much, or, our coach is awful and has them playing way too soft. Call a TO before 3rd and long and tell them to nut up and make a play.
  8. I'd keep bringing the heat, get some shots on the QB, doesn't seem to matter if we drop 8 in coverage, can't cover anyway, might as well man up and make the QB uncomfortable.
  9. Yeah, but second and 6 doesn't make you feel like you need to pass. I know he's not a runner, but if youre running that offense, you gotta pull it every now and then.
  10. It feels like our OC tries to get cute some times. I don't get it. Marsh ain't it either, he's gotta pull the ball and run occasionally. First down he should have kept.
  11. Confused about putting in the backup QB, then really working the pass game.
  12. One of my biggest gripes, which I expressed to Woolard in an email in 2012 when it was clear Skip had to go... was that Leavitt's pool of $$ for assistant coaches was awful. Skip got like double what Leavitt had and promptly went out and gave all of his buddies 50% raises to come with him. Yes, Leavitt worked wonders getting assistant coaches for peanuts compared to what they could get at another BCS school.
  13. I picked him up too, have a ton of byes, bad RBs and I am going to lose this week anyway, I may as well do it with DJ being in there. I am hoping Mack gets traded soon (Dolphins please) so that he gets some more time on the field.
  14. Anyone remember the 2007 Cincy game where Grothe threw like 12 picks? Remember who the WRs were that day? It was bad, and I am certain at least a couple of those were due to WR running the wrong route. QB takes the blame... But, even in that game, as bad as it was, Grothe put a ball in the endzone at the end that would have won it or tied at least... it was PI that wasn't called, but also could have been caught, I think in later years, Mitchell would have come up with that one, but as a freshman, he couldn't win the battle. Anyway, for those of us reminiscing about those times, the current state of our program is painful. Forget about how you feel or felt about Leavitt, he wasn't gifted a whole bunch of blue chip recruits. He developed most of the talent we had and maximized it, we won't sustain success again until a coach comes in and does the same. If Scott turns it around, great. I am just not seeing the improvement yet.
  15. That's fair. I wasn't really taking a huge shot at smazza, but along with MANY others, it's time to admit that they were wrong. I don't care if he does, but the USF admin needs to admit it, they need to address it, they need to apologize to us loyal fans for what their predecessors did to this program. Admittedly, I have been less present since back then as well. Life happens, got married, had kids, you know the drill. I gave up my season tickets after the 2012 season I think it was, just couldn't make it to the games. But, my wife will tell you, I tune in every Saturday and literally have depression as it relates to USF football. I wouldn't be shocked if others feel the same. It's not about missing the good old days, it's about seeing something you love so much destroyed because; fans/boosters were too spoiled to recognize our rise, admin was scared that Leavitt had more of a following than them, a single reporter that was given too much access had a personal vendetta with Leavitt. All I know is I would love to be on that "plateau" again, playing big name teams and winning 8+ games/year. Just did a 20-min look through some of the "fired" threads, you are correct, lots of names I recognize from back then that are no longer around... I saw one say something like "not leavitt, I am USF thru and thru"... not here any more...
  16. ... Says the president of the Jim Leavitt Hater Fan Club... 2009 was such a bad situation. I really think that was going to be Leavitt's best team until Grothe went down. BJD wasn't ready to lead the team. Secondary was weaker than 2007, but if we had consistently been playing with the lead and letting JPP and Selvie pin their ears back and attack QBs... Yes, the old "problems" we're ridiculous compared to where we are now. I think some of us recognized how special things were, probably not fully, but I remember standing in the stadium for WVU in 2007 with a tear in my eye about how far we had come and how amazing it was to have a full stadium, louder than it had been in Auburn just a few weeks before, seconds before silence ensued as Hester scored the winning TD in overtime. Those were indeed the days and I fear that we'll never see that kind of excitement around this program again because the administration was more greedy than us dumb fans.
  17. How did McClain play terrible? He was under duress every time he dropped back. No flow to offensive play calling, run game was working, but not used.
  18. I'm transferring out if I am McClain. You don't trust me to go win the game when we have a lead and a 3rd and 1, great, f off if you think I'm going to go get us in FG range with no TOs. Horrible, horrible coaching. Even Strong wouldn't have done that. Completely took him out of that 3rd and 4th down with a chance to ice the game.
  19. Need to return this, do no settle for the touchback unless it's out of the back of the end zone.
  20. You do that if your QB is not a legit runner, make them play 2 guys instead of keying on 1. How dumb.
