  1. I don't think Woolard really has a choice.  He must get rid of RMC.  We have not won a big east road game in 2 seasons.  We have only won 4 out of 32 games overall in the big east.  And we are now the only team out of 16 not to qualify for the big east tournament in at least one of the two seasons!  How many more chances can we keep giving him.

Geez, such common sense...let's take a step back, and ask ourselves a question:

Should the coach of a team who has lost EVERY conference road game in two years be asked to come back?  The choices are:

    1.  Yes, I like losing basketball with no hope and being a laughingstock in the conference. I'd write more, but my mom is making me cereal for dinner and i need to go.....

    2.  Hell no, I have higher expectations for my school and my team, and no matter the cost, I'd find a way to deal myself 5 new cards of uncertainty, than keep 5 that have proven to be losers.

    Come on, Apologists, vote!!

  2. There are other posts to address that question as well.  But if you only look at W-L (as seems to be the standard) he has done nothing in your eyes.   Case closed.

Typically, W-L are the statistics that are most measured with athletic teams.  Wins are determined by the team that scores the most points in the game. Points are scored when the ball goes through the hoops, one point for a free throw, two for a hoop inside the half circle about 18' from the hoop, 3 points are scored when the ball is made into the hoop when shot from outside this arch.

Hope this helps clarify the game for you.

  3. Besides, if you do look it up, you'll also find your DS bretheren calling ZC a failure, a flop.  So probably to the majority of your ilk, it's not really a big deal - just another shot at the coach.

I believe the perspective was he was a very big injury risk, given his high school injury and conditioning history. That's why most colleges backed off him, only the ones who COUNT ON longshots continued pursuit.

    Fine roster management.

  4. Maybe you want to reread my post. I think he should go BUT the history of our basketball program has been doing it on the cheap and what it has gotten us is a few good years mostly bad. the facts are that you usually get what you pay for and our school as stated in earlier posts have sucked in every conference it has been in winning less than 40% of games. Coaches that were succesful in previous stints come to USF and lose

So it simple we NEED to show we care for the program and pay for a quality coach of course IF we win  money and revenue will go up I NEVER said it wouldnt.

What i did say is if we dont spend for quality we will get same crappy results we have been getting.

thanks for clarifying, but you never said it would, either, which was my point. Either way, it's a sad mess. I did see mac and the team on the plan to chicago.  I tried to chit chat with the coach (hey coach, i'm an alum, hang in there in the last game, etc.), he was courteous, professional, but could have given a **** what I thought, said or was.  That dispassion is fatal in a coach who's looking up at success.  He needs to be fired up, so his kids will be, that is the baseline of success - enthusiasm and passion.  To the contrary, I chatted with Gransberry and Mattis, very professional, smiled, good kids, polite and appreciated a fan/alum, etc. saying hi.  I feel for them, to a degree, I feel for Mac too, but he's just not the right guy for the job.  Might make a great prison administrator, though...

  5. Isn't it about the W's baby??

Nope too easy to pick the Opponent to win every game.  To win points in all categories is what matters.  Shows you might actually watch a game and do some analysis.

But congrats on selecting USF to lose every game - I give you credit for having a plan and sticking to it.

What an asinine comment. Check the scoreboard, I have the most wins and 3rd most average - not to self-perform here, but in the face of your consistent, uneducated and biased opinons, some facts must come into place.  Funny, I thought the goal was to win this contest, not pick USF every week?   IF it's so easy to always pick the opponent, it must be obvious to you, even the most green of goggled, that USF's hoops team has no hope?  Same for others of your bias.  Then again, if it's so easy to always pick the opponent, why aren't so many others? how come it's me, Herman and triple B leading the way??

Ridiculous. YOU do some analysis before writing next time.

  6. My take is very easy. I think he should go BUT if our university is going to spend half a mill on a buyout and then offer 250-300,000 to new coach and continue to underfund the program then we will basically throwaway half a mill to end up in similar circumstances.

IF our athletic dept is willing an able to spend at LEAST 500,000 to get a new guy and tell the guy we are raising the budget in basketball by 1 mill a year it will send the signs to coaches that we are SERIOUS about competing in BE. If not the sign is come to USF we are in BE but wont support you.

You must be an accountant. Revenue - expense = profit.  In this case, and all your other ones on this topic, you only talk about the costs and not the revenue aspect.  How can you not expect attendance to improve? Advertising? Scholarship support, at least in an amount of $400K if Mac leaves?  RIDICULOUS.  NO ONE HAS ANY INTEREST IN USF HOOPS ON THIS BOARD AND WE ARE THE MOST RABID FANS OUT THERE!!!  If we keep Mac, we spend his 200K a year and have no hope of it. If we eat it, and i'm sure the university can eat it, this is big business here, I would hope the next coach could easily raise enough revenues (see Lelo) PLUS interest in the program, to easily offset Mac's sunk costs.

This current state is freaking hopeless. Admit it.

  7. I understand that they are freshman but so are the starting lineups for many of the BE teams this year. Our three best players are three upper classmen, whereas schools like Seton Hall, Louisville, Marquette, etc are legitmately relying on young guys to be their scorers, defenders, rebounders, etc.

I don't believe the talent level of the current players is enough to consistently compete in the BE. They will be good players, but nothing that will have us in the middle of the BE. Just my opinion (and this isn't a slam on the coaching staff, it's just going to take time (and more money) to accumulate that type of talent).

JOe, this is a poor argument...our leading player is a JC transfer that didn't even start until  late December, the second is Buckley, a rare senior...but would you like to compare...

Louisville- ever heard of sa kid named Palacious, and Padgett- both four year juniors.

Seton Hall- uhh, Nutter is a junior, they guy that went off on us.  Laing, Gaines, and Marshall were all juniors and seniors too....they had two freshman that are big contributors.

Quette- had a great guard class that came in two years ago.  But remember last year it was only James that starred it wasn't until this year as sophs and with a year under their belts that Matthews, and McNeal started dominating.

USF, has Bozeman playing as a true freshman, Howard as a RS-Freshman, Cann playing as a RS-Freshman...Amu Saaka playing as a true freshman, Aris Williams as a RS-Soph....Verdejo as a RS-soph...that's youth to me.  Bring in Holmes, Curry, and Nique Jones and you add more scorers.

I guess we're agreeing, but coming up with a different conclusion.  The reason those guys are along is because they're solid high school recruits, not someone else's problem who's looking for BE minutes, so they pick us when no other options give them PT.  As long as we we ill lead the nation in "Statue of Liberty" recruiting, we just won't get there.  No one has won with everyone else's problems, and certainly Mac can't. As I've said before, it strikes me as Mac's failing in that he doesnt have a   stud recruiting assistant (seth's zimroth) to cover for his lack of personality. Game day coaching, I'd give the guy a C+, maybe a B-, given the weak talent has. Unfortunately, he's also in charge of talent procurement, where you have to give him a D-, at best.

He's got to go. Forget the results - and I can't, but I will humor the Apologists - just look at the program's enthusiasm. An all-time low, I dare say. That's untenable.  Order Mac a copy of the home game.

  8. Let me know when there is a new angle to the "fire the coach" campaign.

    asleep.gif

You do need to cut them a little bit of slack now .... Some may not check in here that often and they think they've come up with some newfangled revelation and are just dying to share it with everybody.

A condescending smilie is pretty mean spirited when taking all that into consideration.

Hey listen, let's get the rules of the road here, you, me, Herman/Ari/Girl Friday talks smack on the good coach Mac, or some dim bulb, instant mortal sin.  On the other hand, the Apologists can piss on anyone's cornflakes they want to, and even include a little white sauce to boot.  ahhh, the golden rule..........

  9. This may be a stupid question, but does anyone know what McHugh mattis' plans are after this season?  Is he going to try and work out for an NBA/NBAD team or have any consideration for a late draft round?  I think, similar to Sol jones, he is a raw athletic talent who is a little thin and unpolishished offensively, but with nba trainers and coaches, maybe he has a chance or someone will take a shot, anyone know?  NBA comparison can be a Hakim Warrick/Trevor Ariza type player.

Your nuts Herman, and severely deter your credibility by comparing Mattis to any of those players.  Hakim is 6-11 with a great wing span, same with Sojo.  Mattis is around 6-5 170lbs, and gets called for traveling more than actually dribble penetrating.

Mattis is so far off the NBA it isn't even funny, the kid would have had a shot if he had 5+ more inches and could have played exclusively inside ala SoJo, and for get the NBAD- no way.   Mattis is a good enough athlete to make a healthy living overseas playing hoops where they let guys freelance on the court and teams will enjoy his high flying dunks, and amazing blocks.  The NBA and Mattis- not a chance!

Au contraire, boys, earlier in the year, i was maligned for offering up the fact that our basketball team did not have enough "well-rounded athletes" i.e. pro prospects, and all YOU pundits and soothsayers ASSURED me that McHugh - who's had a great year, was a NBA prospect, would be better than Sojo, etc.  You can look that one up, boys and girls.

Proof's in the pudding, some of us saw it when it was just a bunch of ingredients spread all over the kitchen counter, others, still can't see it when it's baked, burned, and about to be thrown out.....

  10. I had this saved in my favorites . . . JD read into it correctly  8-)

Just another reason to never believe a coach, regardless what they say about wanting to coach at another school.

Maybe sports writers will finally figure that out.

Maybe you should figure out your drivel is unneeded here. Go home, your sister is calling you...........
