  1. The 300 level for students is kind of a joke as they issue those tickets but then no students sit up there - they just hang around the ship if they can't get find a seat in the 200 level with their 300 ticket. That 300 corner was 1/2 full for the WVU game and I suspect it was regular folk spreading out up top.

That is the only game that my wife and I hung out the whole game in the standing room area next to the ship. We had tickets in the 200 section but were drawn by the energy of the students. The energy in the stadium was electric that night. We cant wait for Saturday.

Again I agree with the closing of the 300 section.

    Bringin' the heat....Ummmm....

It seems to me, with my tix in 120, that the purple student sections, especially in the 200-300 level are NEVER full.

Why go up to 200 and 300 level when you can hang out by the ship close to the concessions and just above the lower bowl student section?

How can you cheer the team on if you cant see the game?

  3. LOL ... Let's see ... 2 conference championships ... Wins over BCS schools Duke, NC State, NC, Virginia, Virginia Tech, West Virginia, plus a win over Boise State .... This is one of those threads that make USF fans look like idiots.

What was his bowl games record? Hmmm?

1-2 ... but the 1 win was more impressive than any of our 3.

Dude, We won a game THAT ISNT EVEN AROUND ANYMORE! How many people can say that?!?

  4. Good factual article written right there. It's all true. Holtz has been a failure so far. Lots of hype, bad results.

He went 12-12 in his first two years at ECU. He started out 12-12 here, excluding the bowl game win.

I guess he should get shitcanned.

We didn't bring him here so he could turn us into ECU. Also, notice that Skip's teams got better the longer he was there. Am I out of line for thinking that we'd be getting at least ECU level production for $2 million?

Umm....starting 12-12 at both schools seems like its pretty much the same start. But they gave him 5 years. Maybe we shouldn't jump to the future and suggest the program is ruined. Let it play out. If the team continues to stink, give him the ol' heave ho.

I notice you didn't mention that third year for both schools...

It's pretty hard to compare a completed season, to one that isnt half way over. If you want to play the "What If" game, what if USF goes undefeated the rest of the way and plays in the Orange Bowl?

Orange Bowl? Orange Bowl? Don't talk about the Orange Bowl! Are you kidding me?! Orange Bowl?

Even the most die hard Skip supporter laughed at the Orange Bowl comment. I think even his dad spit more than usual when he read it.

Well, if they go undefeated and win the Big East, they'll play in a BCS game. Most likely the Orange Bowl. Remember, we are playing the "What If" game.

  6. USF students are treating it as a giant party. I've missed one usf football home game in my 4 seasons I've been a student for (wednesday night vs Rutgirls due to a chemistry test) and I have kids texting me, who haven't been to a game this year, and asking me if I'm going and to stop by their tailgate.

    What is the problem here?

They don't actually give a **** about the football program, probably will leave by half time or not make it into the stadium, and will likely not be at another home game all year.

These aren't casual fans. They're people that are so oblivious to usf football that casual isn't even on their radar. And no, this weekend will not change their emotions toward the team after we get bent over Jimbo Fishers lap for our spanking. If we were winning and they were bandwagoners I wouldn't care.

I see the student section pretty full for the most part during games? I'd love our stadium to be packed but that takes alumni and season ticket holders to want to show up, not just students.

this. The students do a good enough job, considering how poor the team is doing and how little the administration does to involve them. We need the casual fans and alumni to step up. Until then, this will never get solved.

The 200 level is full of the drunks that don't make it into the game until the second quarter. I was banished to those seats when I got to a game late last year.

Full? The only thing it is full of is empty chairs.

That didn't seem to keep ALL of us from being happier than pigs in poop when he was hired.

  10. HOT, just like the rest of the athletic program, lacks in tradition. 3 (or 4) directors in 16 years....Kinda makes it hard to establish much of anything. The first director, Sid Haton came from Oregon and recognized what a college marching band should be. The 2nd director, Michael Robinson and his #1 guy Steve Visnage came with more of a drum corps/competitive marching mentality. Hopefully, Dr. McCutcheon has a little better of an idea of what a college marching band should be...

He doesn't... and lack of tradition is no excuse for lack of focus, pride and just doing it the right way. All of these kids have been in marching band before... most of them in good HS programs or they wouldn't have been able to get into the USF school of music... They know what's required.

You dont have to be in the SoM to be in the marching band.

Hell, you dont have to be a student at USF. You can enroll as a "Non-Degree Seeking Student" at USF and take the class.

You don't even have to enroll, you just don't get paid. Do they still offer a stipend?

Heck, there wasn't even an audition.

    Yes... they get a stipend.

    $200 first year member

    $500 returning member

    $600 leadership member

The money really isnt worth the time they put in....Two-Three 3 hour practices during the week, plus giving up a half-dozen Saturdays during the semester.

Nobody is doing it for the money.

I wish they had stipends when I did it! I wonder when they implemented that change.

I was in the band from 2000-2003 and we always had stipends. Not as high as they are now....But it was there. $400 for all members and then another $1500 (I think) if you made the Pep Band.

  11. "Skip Holtz arrived as USF's football coach in 2010 with lots of energy, loads of hope and plenty of pep in his pep talks. He replaced Jim Leavitt and was expected to take USF to the next level. He was to take the Bulls from that nice little eight-win, second-tier-bowl, also-receiving-votes program to one that could win a Big East title, play on New Year's Day and, dare we say, finish in the top 10 or 15 every now and again."

He better quit with all of that truth around here. Some of you might cancel your TBT subscriptions and switch over the the Trib....
