  1. Why would you not want a good QB to join the team?? Chances are, in a year when he can play he would be better than any other option.

Did anyone have complants when Darrell Scott left Colorado and joined USF? He was pretty solid last year, wasnt he?

Who give a **** what program he came from; if he wants to be a Bull and lead this team, so be it. He can't be any worse than our 4-year starter that we have now...

He's 6'5" with a strong arm. Don't you want the #3 QB out of high school playing for USF? C'mon, fellas...

  2. "USF has primarily used a three-man rotation at defensive end, with Ryne Giddins and Tevin Mims starting all five games, but junior Julius Forte has worked with the first-team defense the last two days ahead of Giddins and could start Saturday.

"(He) might be. We feel like we have three defensive ends, and we've been playing them all," Holtz said."

Giddens might be the most disappointing player on the team this season. He has shown flashes of good play, but then he stinks up the joint for a game or 5.

  3. and being on campus somehow makes it magical? We have all those things (when people show up) and have all those advantages without needing to be off of Fowler Ave.

weak argument for an OCS-- most who want it just believe in a traditional campus. I'd rather we spend our money on other things we need than something that gets used --- AND I SAY THIS ONCE AGAIN--- SIX OR SEVEN TIMES A YEAR.

Agreed. Maybe in 20-30 years when there are more donors, more excitement about the team and maybe some tradition, then USF coughs up the couple hundred million. Until then...Enjoy one of the top stadiums in the country.

  4. Anybody who's ever been to a game in a real college football town (like the big boys the SEC) will agree the benefits of an OCS are invaluable to the team's momentum during the game and increase the chances of you know, actually winning home games. There's a reason SEC teams don't lose at home (not counting the cupcake FCS games)- the stadiums are packed with students and alumni. They're loud as hell and on their feet every play. Throw in the pre-game rituals and on-campus tailgating and you've got yourself home field advantage.

That's what Kentucky and Vandy say....?

  5. pre Holtz never missed a bowl since joining the BE.(about to be 2 straight).

pre Holtz never lost in OT.

pre Holtz only had two losing seasons in programs history(one was first season). (We are on pace for 2 in a row, 2 out of 3)

pre Holtz we had not lost to an FBS School since joining the BE( streak over 40 games)

Skip is 3-10 in last 13 games. Wins over Nevada and Chatt.

Pre holtz we won 3-4 BE games a season, Last year 1 BE win(Syracuse).

All this with the same or less talent than Skip has. We are a very senior talented team and have a 3 year starter at QB.

Numbers dont lie, Holtz has taken us back not forward.

Look at how many sold out this past weekend vs FSU. The biggest home game in program history.

    He is killing the program.

    So dramatic.

  6. I'll never feel embarassed to be a Bull, but I was surprised at how many season ticket holders sold their tickets. That Ball St. loss zapped some serious enthusiasm, or a lot of our season ticket holders are just fair-weather.

plenty of people were getting paid 6 times face value for their tickets

that is a pretty rare event for a Bulls game

Sorry, Mike, I'll have to disagree. This was a huge game, and for some season ticket holders to have sold their seats for even 6 times face value, still makes them pretty fair-weather, in my opinion.

Selling a pair tickets in my section would have paid for the season tickets competely...Hard to argue if someone is willing to pay upwards of $300 for a ticket.

  7. 5 pages but I wanted to make a point I don't think I saw on here which is why Skip is not the right fit for USF and why it's not BJ holding us back. BJ has PLENTY enough talent to have won ALL of our games this season. It was the COACHING that sold USF out. 10 points in that USF game were directly responsible to piss poor game management. When your 8 year old son is watching and saying, "Dad, why did they do that?" and all his experience is in playing NCAA football for 2 years! lol EVERY game I've watched this season we have BUTCHERED our use of time outs, challenges/not challenging, play calling etc. You could give this guy a roster of 5 star guys at every position and we'd STILL LOSE games that another guy would win with lesser talent due to game management.

If you've ever played sports chances are you've played on good teams and not so good teams and there's one common thread between those that win more than they lose...the good ones play to their team's strengths and they inspire their team through process or being able to pull diamonds out of the rough.

If we were playing this year's schedule with the teams CJL built and coached during his time with Grothe at the helm, we'd be looking at a 1 loss season TOPS this year. That's how pathetic this schedule is now vs. when the Big East was at it's best since we've been here.

Watch college football and FEW have the escapability and raw physical tools BJ has. Do you see any other QBs breaking off the types of runs he does? The long ball he hits? Anyone can tell he has NO TOUCH on the 7-15 yard passes so guess what? DON'T CALL THEM and sure as hell don't make 20 out of 25 pass plays these exact type of passes!

The problem is this coaching staff has no friggin clue how to adapt their play calling to his strengths. They should be running the read option with the occasional play action DEEP! I If you gave Saban this team, same talent, we wouldn't go undefeated, but we'd be no worse than a 2 loss team based on coaching alone and devising a game plan that actually plays to his strengths.

Living in Alabama, I have to watch more Alabama games and listen to them on the radio 24/7/365 more than anyone on earth should ever be exposed to. But I can tell you this. Watching Saban call a game vs. Holtz would show how embarrassing our game management is. Half of what makes Saban special is that every season he adapts. When he has a pocket passer whose accurate but not a big arm? He throws slants, screens and button hooks. When he has one with a big arm, but little accuracy, he leans on a strong run game, occasional long passes and lets the defense do their thing.

When you coach, it's like when you play, some have "it" during the heat of the game, and some don't. The ones with "it" always seem to know when they're calling the time out before the play starts vs. watching 30 seconds run off and then calling one. They know when to go for it by knowing where their team "is" at that moment. They can see a weakness or strength and make adjustments to maximize those advantages.

Have you seen ANY of this with Holtz? I hated to see CJL leave, but understand it had to be done and was behind Holtz, but 25 games later or whatever, I've seen enough to know he is OVERWHELMED when the ball kicks off.

If USF wants to move forward, we need an expert who can "own" one side of the ball to give this team an identity. With Saban, it's defense. With Leach it was offense. With Miles it's knowing when to call the crazy ass play he knows they can pull off. Top teams aren't perfectly well rounded most years, they have one thing they do really well and it usually reflects the personality of the coach.

From what I can tell, Holtz brings APR and nice manners. Neither of which wins football games.

    "Mic Drop"...

    very good post.

les miles wins with below average QB play all the time.

    2010 they go 11-2

Jordan Jefferson had a QB rating of 115 with 7 passing TDs and 10 picks

last year kansas state went 10-2 with a QB that had 317 carries and a 3.6 ypc average. his passing and rushing stats w ere worse than BJs

great coaches find a way to win

give any of those coaches our roster and they easily compete for conference title.

LSU also has top talent surrounding their QB's at every position on both sides of the ball.

    USF....doesn't.

LSU has WR's **** near every year who are top picks at the next level. Their ability to run the ball consistently year after year is another contributing factor to their success. They are as deep at RB as any school in the country, except maybe Georgia.

LSU also has talent on the defense that every school in the country wants. Last year, they had 5 guys in the secondary who will go pro, plus a defensive line that is full of future pros.

I know you were trying to compare QB play, but that's impossible to do when you are trying to compare an elite, national-title contending program with a middle of the pack program like USF.

  8. USF runs a spread option read offense, that seems like it's been utilized for Daniels. It seems like BJ has about 10-15 runs per game, sometimes more. That's different from what FSU does with Manuel. And you really don't think FSU game planned around BJ's ineffectiveness in the passing game? FSU took away the long pass from BJ (he tried to force it into deep coverage numerous times) and gave up anything short and tackled that well. The plan was to not get beat deep and we didn't. Early in the game FSU had to respect the fact BJ could pull back the read and run. This resulted in the RB being able to get some yards when actually receiving the ball (not a result of a good USF run game rather DLine waiting to attack runner). Once FSU had the lead and BJ had to throw to stay in the game, FSU pinned its ears back and stuffed USF's run and pressured Daniels like crazy, that's why he as throwing the ball away so much at the end. USF could have moved the ball vs. FSU if BJ would have just been able to hit the 5-10 yard passes consistently, FSU was giving him that all game. But BJ couldn't like he hasn't been able to his entire career and thus USF didn't take advantage

It's sad that an opposing team's fan sees this clear as day, but many on here are still in denial about it. Daniels has no touch. He never has since he's been here. If the guy isn't running or trying to launch the ball downfield then he's useless. As much as our play calling sucks, I believe much of it has to do with the fact that our coaches just don't trust this guy. How can you be a senior QB and still not be able to consistently complete the short yardage passes?? I mean a simple screen pass is like a rubik's cube for this guy.

Just like the three quick passes in the flat to t-rex. One was underthrown, one was thrown behind and the one he actually threw on target was dropped.

  9. What I saw for most of the game was #27 man on man with Davis with a safety over the top. Therefore, the box could not have been "stacked"

Well, if theyre playing man on the outside WR's with a safety over the top, that leaves 8 in the box. The LB/DB covering the guy(s) in the slot(s) are considered "in the box" regardless of who they are covering and what position they play.
