  1. I'm in another NCAA football community, where one of the mods wished that we get whatever we may ask for for Christmas. After I responded, "Already got my present... making those Purple Pirates our HO HO HO!" the mod (a Bama fan who lives down there) responded, "Yeah, Birmingham was COVERED with South Florida fans the other day. I made the mistake of being on the interstate right after the game was over... and I got caught up in the post-game traffic." WAY TO MAKE AN IMPACT!

  2. I thought the moral of that story was "if you try and please everyone, you might as well kiss your ass goodbye"?  ;D

Geez, ESPN had a USF ass kissing party all night. I'm sorry you missed it but I could not believe how much positive coverage USF got last night.

From Aesop's Fables: The Man, The Boy, and The Donkey

A man and his son were once going with their Donkey to market. As they were walking along by its side a countryman passed them and said: “You fools, what is a Donkey for but to ride upon?â€Â

So the Man put the Boy on the Donkey and they went on their way. But soon they passed a group of men, one of whom said: “See that lazy youngster, he lets his father walk while he rides.â€Â

So the Man ordered his Boy to get off, and got on himself. But they hadn't gone far when they passed two women, one of whom said to the other: “Shame on that lazy lout to let his poor little son trudge along.â€Â

Well the Man didn't know what to do, but at last he took his Boy up before him on the Donkey. By this time they had come to the town, and the passersby began to jeer and point at them. The Man stopped and asked what they were scoffing at. The men said: “Aren't you ashamed of yourself for overloading that poor Donkey of yoursâ€â€you and your hulking son?â€Â

The man and Boy got off and tried to think what to do. They thought and they thought, till at last they cut down a pole, tied the Donkey's feet to it, and raised the pole and the Donkey to their shoulders. They went along amid the laughter of all who met them till they came to Market Bridge, when the Donkey, getting one of his feet loose, kicked out and caused the Boy to drop his end of the pole. In the struggle the Donkey fell over the bridge, and his fore-feet being tied together, he was drowned.

“That will teach you,†said an old man who had followed them:

“Please all, and you will please none.â€Â

  3. Many thanks indeed--the fans who made the trip looked GREAT! I don't know what the actual ratios were, but the way they were shooting made it seem as though we had a larger and livelier crowd down in B'ham. Did anyone else notice that in the opening segment they showed Bulls fans, Bulls fans, Bulls fans, one old ECU fan in a funny hat, Bulls fans? It was great!

  4. it's kinda random but oh well: To those of you with BULLS car flags, do you fly 'em in adverse weather conditions? Part of me wants to say yes, Bull pride endures through it all, but the other part wants to treat it with a similar code of respect as the American flag (don't fly in rain or snow [though I don't mind flying it at night], don't let it touch the ground, etc.) Thoughts?

  5. All Eastern Carolina has done since the match-up was announced was talk about what great fan support they have and how well they travel.  If they don't bring 10k they should be embarrased.  We'll bring 5-6k.  My guess is that they'll have about the same.  They talk a big game.

    isnt usf a bigger school?

    why shouldnt usf be embarassed?

USF is now the 9th largest school in the Nation:

Top 10 as of Fall 2006:

51,818: Ohio State University - Columbus, OH

51,234: Arizona State University - Tempe, AZ

50,785: University of Florida - Gainesville, FL

50,402: University of Minnesota Twin Cities - Minneapolis / St Paul, MN

49,738: University of Texas at Austin - Austin, TX

46,719: University of Central Florida - Orlando, FL

45,487: Texas A&M University - College Station, TX

45,166: Michigan State University - East Lansing, MI

44,038: University of South Florida - Tampa, FL

42,914: Pennsylvania State University-University Park - University Park, PA

    Latest updated info about ECU:

East Carolina Enrollment Fall 2005:  23,164

It seems to me that there's only one of those top 10 that doesn't play in a BCS conference...

Anyhow, USF is a bigger school, but it's possible that there are more people who have passed through ECU's walls, it having been around longer. I couldn't find any numbers in my short, half-assed search, but it's possible that more than just the size of the University comes into play here.

Edit: We quote 195K to their 120K.

  6. We're big in Germany like David Hasselhoff!  ;D

I'll promote just about anything that supports the USF BULLS!!!

I'm way over in GERMANY and you all better believe that I'll be following the game on TV over here...

I'm surprised at how many people here actually know USF...everywhere I go, I've got some kinda USF gear on and I always come across people that point out the green'n gold to me.

    GO BULLS!!!!!!!!!!!

  7. I've said it before, and I will say it again.  If and that is a huge IF (am am not for BE expansion) the BE ever expands or takes on a 9th football member, I would like to see them take TCU, not Memphis, EZU, or CFU.  TCU has a great tradition in a HUGE metro area (DFW - 6 million people), in a football rich state - as much as Florida believe it or not.  And before someone says they are too far away, they are no farther away from the rest of the BE than USF is.  Dallas to Louisville is 835 miles, Tampa to Louisville is 873 miles.

Don't you think it's really hard to convince the Big East to take a team from Fort Worth, Texas?

I mean Fort Worth is closer to LA than NY...

Pretty much what I was thinking... then again, St. Louis U., on the banks of the Mississippi River and gateway to the West, is in the Atlantic 10, so go figure.

  8. "The Bucs have one of the most lucrative stadium deals in the nation, which accounts for the team's very high market value," said Mark Rosentraub, an economist and author of "Major League Losers: The Real Costs of Sports and Who's Paying for It." He said the Bucs' high value is a testament to Glazer's financial acumen, considering the Tampa Bay area is among the NFL's smallest markets.

That's funny. I thought the Tampa Bay area was the 13th largest market.

    Kizarvexis

If you consider that the Raiders/Niners share a market, Jets/Giants share a market... c'mon! that makes us one of the 17 smallest markets!

  9. it is funny how everyone is so quick to refer to malcom as "evil"

the man is one name and one name only...."smart"

and we have to thank him as USF fans.  if it wasnt for him we would be playing in the Old Bucs stadium and football in tampa would be a dead issue just like it is in Orlando.

i doubt we would have an OCS stadium under construction right now like UCF does.

yea we dont make money off of our own home games and that sucks, but come on, glazers are smart businessmen.

12 mil for a indoor practice stadium is stupid.  this wont pass.  no way.

but come on, glazers saved football in tampa.  plain and simple...ask LA if they wish they gave Al Davis the same deal.

they would of said yes 100 million times by now.

"smart" and "evil" are often exactly the same thing... it just matters which side of the equation you're on.
