  1. Having a fairly one-track mind, I've been listening to the bands in the stands. I will say that they HOT has about as good a stands presence (both volume and quality) of anyone out there.

Huh?  Have you seen any of the Big 10 bands?  Or, the PAC-10?  HOT is not in the same universe.  HOT has ALOT of work to do to be up there with USC, Michigan, Wisconsin, and Penn State.  I saw all but USC in person, we need to do some work.

Reread what I said. Yes, I've seen most of the Big Ten bands, many in person, and a good deal of the Pac-10, SEC, Big XII, ACC and other conferences as well. You'll notice, however, I was speaking about stands presence. Yes, there are many aspects of some of these programs that the HOT can't touch--yet. But as far as how they sound in the stands on television, I believe they've got a great presence.

  2. "Is USF ever going to have a Marching band?" sure sounds negative to me. USF does have a marching band, and a **** fine one at that.

That's funny because more than one person in the band has told me that the HOT isn't a marching band.

If your angle is "The Herd of Thunder is a multifaceted athletic band ensemble which includes show band, pep band, and marching band components", fine, you're splitting hairs, but what you see on the field during football games is still a marching band. If not, I'd love to see what you and your sources think it is.

  3. i will be curious to see if boise is ranked to start next year.  they might be in a better position than us to win the title.  but i assume we'd have more impressive wins throughout the season.

I certainly don't think that it'll put them in better position than us, assuming the system remains the same or similar to what it is now. BSU doing the same thing next year would yield the same results. Us doing that next year would put us in the NC game.

  4. we already know, amazing game, amazing story, I'm not saying this to take anything away from the Broncos. Some were cheering for them as the underdog, still others in hopes that this would bust the B©S wide open, and perhaps many others because they saw a little of us in a team fighting for BCS respect. It's easy to see parallels in some senses, but let's not forget:

WE AREN'T THE LITTLE GUYS ANYMORE.

We shouldn't be hankering for a scrap or a seat at the table. We ARE in a BCS auto-qualifying conference, and we need to march on up to a BCS game and take ours too. The only reason we should be anywhere close to the same sort of story is if we march into the National Championship Game itself, and even that is only because of our short time of existene and hte fact that no one would see it coming but the faithful. But anything else should be par for the course, and is ours for the taking.

    2007: YEAR OF THE BULL!

  5. Stolen from Wiki (hopefully the table pastes fine):

Conference      Number of Teams      Wins-Losses      Winning Percentage      Teams

Big East      5      3-0      1.000      Winners: Rutgers, South Florida, West Virginia

    Losers:

    Still to play: Cincinnati, Louisville

MWC      4      3-1      .750      Winners: BYU, TCU, Utah

    Loser: New Mexico

    WAC      4      2-1      .667      Winners: Hawai[ch699]i, San Jose State

    Loser: Nevada

    Still to play: Boise State

ACC      8      4-3      .571      Winners: Boston College, Florida State, Maryland, Miami

Losers: Clemson, Georgia Tech, Virginia Tech

    Still to play: Wake Forest

SEC      9      4-3      .571      Winners: Auburn, Georgia, Kentucky, South Carolina

    Losers: Alabama, Arkansas, Tennessee

    Still to play: Florida, LSU

    Losers: Arizona State, Oregon, UCLA

    MAC      4      1-1      .500      Winner: Central Michigan

    Loser: Northern Illinois

Still to play: Ohio, Western Michigan

    Sun Belt      2      1-1      .500      Winner: Troy

    Loser: Middle Tennessee

Big 12      8      3-4      .429      Winners: Oklahoma State, Texas, Texas Tech

Losers: Kansas State, Missouri, Texas A&M, Nebraska

    Still to play: Oklahoma

Big Ten      7      2-4      .333      Winners: Penn State, Wisconsin

    Losers: Iowa, Minnesota, Purdue, Michigan

    Still to play: Ohio State

    Independent      2      0-1      .000      Winner:

    Loser: Navy

    Still to play: Notre Dame

    C-USA      5      0-4      .000      Winner:

Losers: East Carolina, Houston, Rice, Tulsa

    Still to play: Southern Miss

Winning out or even losing 1 gives us the best postseason record.

  6. I wouldn't be surprised if that's a Rose Bowl demand. Having marched in the Tournament of Roses parade back in '99, the entire organization is very band-friendly, and Rose Bowl's been in bed with ABC for some time now, so I bet that partnership melps make that concession. Still, I'd love to see that to spread to the other bowls!

  7. Not sure where you're located, but if you're in proximity to USF, I'd definitely suggest you pop in and take a look at the Alumni House... you couldn't ask for more in a Bulls-themed room. I think most of the suggestions made here are great as well.

I've been salivating for a while over a plan for a game room in my future house decked out in gear from my various (college and pro) sports teams.

  8. let's just say that I'm a little less confident since we have yet to beat ANY SEC team so far.

    possible? I guess

    probable? not so sure

that's about how I feel, but the future is definitely bright! Further, as much as I think and bullieve that we can, keep in mind we can still have a very successful feeling with a loss in that game.
