QF's inaccuracy is a big reason for the reliance on the run game imo. He misses at least a few easy throws by a lot every game. The first drive against Houston was a prime example. I don't think we will see this offense at its best until we have a pass first DT QB playing. I love QF's game but very rarely is he accurate right from the opening kickoff.
Yes he I spoke not always accurate. The first drive was not good.
however he was 9 of 12 in the second half and 60% overall.
However, the last drive why not even run QB power to attack the edge. Maybe pick up a first down and kill the clock. Maybe get the touchdown. If you don’t trust his arm then at least trust his legs.

It was a pretty loud bunch though. Until the last 12 seconds.

When the CB jumped the ***** route and almost took it to the house a good play caller would have come back very soon with a hitch and go. We never did.
Yep. They never attacked with a double move. I kept waiting for it.

I'm not saying Flowers should watch Varsity Blues on thanksgiving. But I'm not saying he shouldn't watch varsity blues on Thanksgiving.

I hear Gator fans are all for some executions.
I'm sure McElwain's coach's show will include him saying "now people are calling for execution of the gator coaching staff" look at this guy named George bullnard Shaw.

I don't know if you watched the game with your kids, but if you did I bet they were questioning some of the things happening, especially clock management. I think they might have better situational awareness.
BTW, my son yelled out "watch the fake" on one of their punts on 4th and 1. Thought you'd enjoy that.

I was at the game with my kids. They couldn't believe the last 2 minutes. And my 9 year old wanted to know when Flowers was going to do Flowers things.
The bright side is that they had a great time other than the result.

Gilbert calls plays as if each play exists in a vacuum. Never learning from what happened before. Never setting something up.
Antoine has a couple good sweeps 4 games ago. Nothing tonight when he's supposed to be ready to go.
No plan on how to use McCants.
Maybe get Sands some carries?

I think this is all the offense has.
Let me rephrase, I think this is all the offensive coaching staff has.
also, Gilbert is the only OC in USF history who would not have called a QB run on the last two plays before the FG at the end of the game.

I had this as a loss to start the season. So we wouldn't surprise me.
But I had us winning the conference.

Excellent - not only are we bringing back older uniforms, looks like we are bringing older players back as well
I heard a rumor that #5 was pretty good once upon a time
Bring back all the #5s. Kawika Mitchell, Nate Allen and Mack.

When was the last week we had one blocked before Saturday?
We've had 6 so far this year not including the 2 blocked punts. 100 teams have 0 or 1 blocked. We should have had no more after the Illinois fiasco.

I feel terrible for the Houston fanbase. They are the most recent example of Texas and College Football Politics causing them to lose their Coach and incredible Program Momentum.
I'm afraid the same story may happen to UCF.
Texas politics going to get UCF?

6.7 per carry for the entire 2016? That's insanely high..
Yes but don't forget that at times last year the only thing stopping the run plays was the end zone.

Did you happen to know that we are rushing for 20 yards MORE a game this year, than we did last year with the great Marlon Mack.
That's a function of we're running more. We're at 5.5 yards per carry this year versus 6.7 last year. Also we pass for 38 yards less per game this season.

Ragin, If CWT was still here that would mean that Woodie is still coaching the D? then this team is not 7-0. We likely lose the ECU and/or Tulane games. On the road and the offenses did some damage even with us tackling much better this year.

Agree...”players” situational awareness too
The player has no choice in that scenario unless he's injured. The coaches want them on the line to run the next play and get the defense off guard. We do this after every long play. I'm not blaming a player for not taking himself out when he's coached otherwise. Blame the coaches for not calling a better play.

Tice should have taken himself out the game if he was that gassed.
If he takes himself out then the defense gets the opportunity to substitute. Team is taught to get to the line and run the next play on the basis that the D is scrambling and gassed because no one can substitute. After the 1 yard gain Tice did sub himself out.
-
We'll have to double at points. Of course given our penchant to improperly double a guy by continuing toe engage defenders high and low be prepared for illegal chop block calls. I think the over-under on that should be 4 this week.

Didn't Purdue lose to Rutgers? Not a real impressive resume.
Yes 14-12.
-
On the running up the middle, yes the Tice run, and several others this year were up the middle. However, the 4th quarter Tice run on 3rd down worked in part because we ran jet sweep action to at least threaten the outside run. It would be great if we didn't need all the "window dressing" but we do more often than not.
Also, after that long Tice run they lined up and ran a tired Tice into the line again. The average looks good but running Q there or rolling out and passing creates more problems for the D than throwing a tired back into the line.

All of this is opinion. Do we deserve to be ranked? For the most part we've beat down a bunch of bad teams. In some cases we should have beat them down worse. Is the below worthy of a team ranked #5 in the country? That's Wisconsin's resume to date. I'm not that impressed but I guess somebody has to be #5.
59-10 over Utah State (4-4)
31-14 over FAU (4-3)
40-6 over BYU (1-7)
33-24 over Northwestern (4-3)
38-17 over Nebraska (3-4)
17-9 over Purdue (3-4)
38-13 over Maryland (3-4)
