It's up to you to drag your feet and cry along the journey to success or you can be grateful for the improvements and lessons learned along the way. We scored 50 against a Memphis team that was holding their opponents to 25 pts per game even after the North Texas blowout. We finally figured out the offense. It took 9 games, but we scored our first "fiddy" point game. If we can figure out how to keep teams under 40 pts then we have a chance to win out or get to a bowl game.
Rankings Defense Offense USF 128th 21st Temple 128th 120th UTSA 71st 48th Charlotte 48th 110th Better beat Temple..we should...Charlotte could be tougher than some expert especially with this defense.

So they know how to coach to defend the run but not the pass. I'm not buying it. Just my opinion but think out of 3 DCs they should know how to coach both and that the talent level is the issue.
My thought is this is more talent than coaching issue. 3 DC and all have worse defense they ever had most likely.... points to they were not given much to work with. We could hire the best DC and it likely doesn't look much better I'm afraid.

we are surround by the best talent in the game
we cant recruit
Well I'll say the prior coach couldn't for the defense. Golesh if any good should get the talent in here on defense to fix this. We need HS talent what we can get in portal...most are here cause they can't get on the field at prior school. Can't fix this with the portal.

Gotta agree. 3 DCs and the same crap. It can't be just the coaching.
It isn't...it's the talent or lack of it that's main cause. Secondary in particular is absolutely horrible.
Quicker Golesh gets upperclassmen out of Here the better.

I attribute that to bad 3rd down play calling. Those blitzes are killing us b/c we can not defend the pass.
Not sure it matters with this group we could put everyone into coverage and they still would make the first down.
I think this secondary is lacking speed along with talent.
-
Yea for the opportunity for a bowl game...it is a must win game.
If the seniors can't get up for this game to get 5 wins...I'd sit them all that arent producing...let the underclassmen play out rest of year.

Wow so we ultimately didn't improve from last year. It's interesting you would think it would be possible to not be at the bottom.
Depressing how horrible we have been on defense for many years.
Golesh has to know defense has to be a priority. Offense was ranked 21 or so. We are actually ahead of schedule and they will only get better.
-
Our secondary has little talent and they should be in the FCS or is it three DC in a row don't know how to coach?
I'm leaning it's a talent issue with Orlando and defense. Scott's players need to be purged.
Luckily alot should be leaving after the season.

Yikes after that debacle we are ranked 128 at defense...2 away from worst.

why now?
if the freshman arent better than what we have on the field whats the point
if they are better why havent they been playing all along
i will assume they arent good either
If the young players aren't much different than seniors now...then you should play the younger ones with more upside. The seniors aren't ever getting better.
Let them get some game time experience for next year.

Coach should be playing more of the freshmen on defense.
Let the young guys get game experience for next year. Most upperclassmen have proven they they should not be on the field.

There is no excuse for a top 50 public school in a recruiting hotbed in a growing metro area that has had success historically to have gotten so bad. It baffles me every time I think about it. I can only hope that the board and president have learned their lesson that failure is unacceptable in Athletics and are willing to hold people accountable going forward.
Memphis is a terrible school with terrible facilities in a meh city and yet they've been to 10 bowl games in a row.
It makes absolutely no sense.
The variable is accountability.
We should definitely not be as bad as we have been. But incompetence at the upper level will do that. Back to back horrible football hires will derail any program. Hopefully Golesh is the real deal.
-
I guess its better than losing 70 to 14 so we got that going for us.
If this offense wasn't moving the ball most of the game I have no doubt Memphis would have scored near that.
It's just frustrating seeing how horrible this program has been for years. But I think things are heading slowly In right direction. Most college football fans haven't had it as bad as us these past 3 years not counting this year.

It really to me as someone that watched most of the game that was a team loss. Both offense and defense at crunch time in 4th did terrible especially the offense when defense actually made some stops.
OC had some really bad play calls late and Brown that int was big mistake.
Worried now after this loss team comes out flat vs a semi decent Temple team.
-
We addressed DT some.. but we have not much talent at DE. It's gotta be priority one for defense...we barely ever get pressure on other qb unless we blitz and even then it's not even great.
Defense in whole seriously lacks talent.
We could have Saban and this group still let up 50

Loss was totally on this offense and the coaches. OC sucks...a good OC and we have put up 50+ on this team
-
This loss will be on our offense going into the tank late in the 2nd half
Defense did enough to give the offense a shot to take a lead late.
-
Ill give the DC a pass I think we lack the talent...way to many of Scotts players need to be purged to judge the DC.

Going to have to play pretty perfect to close this out on the road.

Nice stop defense, great answer.

Yea a win vs Memphis on the road would be a huge for this program.
Not being complacent with losing…

Yea the oline has improved during the season I guess that young OL coach isn't all that bad. Brown has done better at not taking sacks.
Now if the secondary could have taken that next step...been struggling since week 1 and still are.
