  1. It goes without saying that QB is THE key. If you look at the roster returning, it looks better than OK. O-line returns 3 starters and at least 3 other guys who've had experience in Polk, Galati and Larkin. Both TEs are back. Receiving corps looks fine with Salomon, McCants, Bronson, Antoine, Barr, etc. Cronkrite was a nice add for experience at RB while Sands, Mack, etc. shakes out for depth.

D-line looks promising with the nice freshmen tackles, two Duke transfers, Reaves, Bronson, Livingstone with experience. Swatelle and Johnston at LB need more help. Corners are solid with Hoggins, Wilkins, Hampton. Thomas gives some experience at safety. Time for Watts to live up to his billing.

That's a pretty good group already before anyone else steps up - and you know they will. If the QB is manageable, you can definitely win with that bunch.

  2. I see Joey is getting pounded by Bulls fans in his Twitter feed for the perception of negative reporting. Honestly, that's not really the issue with Joey Knight. The real issue is that, despite the fact he's been on the beat for several years, it doesn't appear that he's developed any significant sources to help him with his reporting. My sense is that he very rarely gives us any breaking news -  not when it comes to team coverage, coaching searches, recruiting, etc. News outlets outside the Tampa area often seem better plugged in than the local beat writer. That's the real issue. His predecessor built those sources and regularly broke USF news, and when he didn't break the story, he'd do more than just re-report what was already out there, he'd give us more detail or perspective. Joey doesn't.

  3. Never like to see injuries and he surely has struggled with them his whole time at USF, but . . . he was absolutely awful last year. One dimensional shooter - and not very good. Couldn't defend. Turnover machine. It would have been great to see him have a bounce-back season, but I was already hoping the new talent was good enough to push him to the bench.

  4. We have two seriously under-the-radar players - twin brothers relocated from Canada - at the school where I work. So far, I'm not aware of any interest from USF, but there should be. The RB (Chase) has some significant offers, including Syracuse, Purdue, Indiana, UCF. The safety (Sydney) can run and hits like a ton of bricks. Tulane is his best offer so far. As a guy who wrote recruiting for Rivals.com for a number of years, I can tell you these two are going to make a couple of schools pretty happy when they get there. Great kids. Great, aggressive players with LOTS of tools. If anyone has a connection to the USF staff . . .
