Hey Dave, any chance you could post a few covers from your old publication during this slow off season? I was a subscriber but honestly can’t remember (old age). Would be fun to look back on that.
Absolutely!

I got to cover USF sports for almost a decade, traveled with teams, etc. and there were so many great athletes and coaches. But I was always even more impressed with them as people. We should be very proud of how the vast majority of our student-athletes represented - and still represent - our beloved university. When my daughter recently chose USF to continue her studies, I reached out to a bunch of coaches and former student-athletes that I've come to know and asked them if they would write her a brief "congrats" email. You absolutely wouldn't believe what she received from them! Messages that were thoughtful, articulate, and filled with Green & Gold pride. It kind of took my love for the university to a different level. GO BULLS!

For the record: SEVEN NCAA Tournament bids in 10 seasons from 1993-2002 . . . nothing since.

"Recognized" as what? Our volleyball program used to be very good - a regular in the NCAA Tournament - but that seems like a long time ago. What happened there?

I'm about to learn - through my daughter's upcoming experience - what the university does to indoctrinate its students from Day One to create brand loyalty as Bulls. I'm VERY interested to see if they make it a priority from the start. To me, this is how things change over time. Pride creation.
The communication has been very good throughout the enrollment process, but I've already seen missed opportunities to add a personal touch and that "something extra." My daughter was accepted to several other schools. Although USF's offer was the best, Davidson definitely caught my eye with the way their admissions department made very personal communications. Granted, they are dealing with a much smaller group of admits than USF.

Got to thank Stetson for a great year...if they did not a have a regional we would probably be back in Gainesville. That said, many on here are forgetting they are a **** good team.
Not forgetting, just would rather take my chances vs. them than UF or FSU.

Best chance to advance in a long time.

You'll all recognize the speaker/special guest, but 3 USF signees were named players of the year this week at Sarasota Herald-Tibune banquet. Chosen from preps from Sarasota, Manatee, Charlotte and Desoto counties. Venice's Tyrone Barber was Football Defensive POY, Port Charlotte's Devin Leacock (check out the old-school robobull vest!) was Weightlifter of the Year, and Lakewood Ranch pitcher Pablo Garribitos was Baseball POY.

That's about as good a Day Two as you can possibly have. Two pitchers used. Bats blazing. Second game shortened. WOW! Go Bulls!

Now that's a job, Collin Sullivan! GO BULLS!

Look how butthurt UCF is about it

So they go 13-0 after back-to-back seasons of 6-7 and 0-12 and now they're God's gift to football and are on par with programs that can pick and choose who to schedule? I guess they forget that two seasons before they went 0-12, they were 12-1. Things can - and do - turn quickly. It's all about the QB position. In the college game, if you have a good one who can make plays (Bortles/Milton) you win. If you don't . . . you're 0-12. Let's see what happens after Milton. They'll be in the same spot we are right now after Flowers - wondering if the next guy can get it done.

Looks like we're out for this guy: https://www.minerrush.com/2018/5/16/17362450/utep-makes-final-three-list-for-njit-transfer-anthony-tarke

McClanahan didn't make all-conference teams, maybe that serves as some extra motivation.

What a sensational transfer this one was. I remember following Zack's recruitment in high school and he's really good.
Are we allowed to believe that Brian Gregory can turn this thing around?

Aagghh, our history of ineptness has led to the greatness of all those little schools.
Lelo Prado was a disaster.

All this pissing and moaning and it's our best conference record and highest finish since joining the AAC .....
We're a program that should be in a regional nearly every year. I'm not that concerned with the AAC. Conference accolades are fine, but it's all about what you're doing to win a regional and super regional, and we're not doing it with this pitching staff. After 14 or however many trips, it's time for us to win a regional. It has to be about more than just getting there at this point.

We'll take the W, but the past 7 games - 11, 17, 6, 9, 10, 6, 8 = 67 runs allowed!

What a ridiculous pitching staff. This team is going 1-2-BBQ.

ucf doing well actually increases the rivalry in my eyes. I am not a big cheerleader of ucf proclaiming they are champions but I do support that they...and most importantly "any" G5 school...sticking it to the P5 at "any" chance they get. Does this mean that I have to smile when I hear ucf "national champions'? Yes it does, but again not because it is ucf but because they are sticking it to the man. This could have been Tulane, Temple, Marshall, etc. I would not care about the school but about the message to those jerks (ESPN, Alabama, SEC, ACC, etc.) who have created this (in my mind) illegal system while all we can do is just smile and nod.
In terms of the school...ucf...I hate them with a passion and "most" of their fans (a few who come to our board are for the most part decent). I have a dude from my work whose daughter went to ucf and that's all he talks about. It was so nice to throw our preeminent status at him last fall. The fact that they are on a high right now makes it even sweeter when we bring them down next year (to my point in the first sentence).
I'm with NEBull to a large degree. The stupid monopoly called the "P5" is a much bigger villain than UCF at this point. I was totally OK with their national championship claim, but they didn't know when to stop and have just turned a valid argument into a silly internet meme. I also have not encountered a more vile internet fandom over the past two decades than the UCF boneheads. Yes, everybody has them. Nobody I've run into has been as maddeningly ridiculous as them.

As close as all these American teams seem to be, I'm not sure seeding means a darn thing in the tournament.

Sarasota Herald-Tribune Players of the Year
in Prospects & Potential Recruits

I missed one. USF actually signed FOUR of the area's Players of the Year, including girls track's Karen Lyvers of Lakewood Ranch High. She won state pole vault and also was a top hurdler.
