Yep- I'll give you that one. Our QB has to be a given this year. 2nd year and 3rd year guys who should be at a higher level by now. McC should have really shined in the Spring game but kinda B- C+ performance. Marsh was better. Hoping CTrk works some magic on these guys. Since I'm "hoping", I hope one of the freshmen-Smith or Brown is a super stud.

Can't shine if you're not allowed to play with a full arsenal of tools. McClain needs to be able to scramble.

  2. Jim's point regarding Leavitt is still valid though. Too many folks wax poetic regarding his tenure and tend to gloss over some really prevalent Big East conference losses.

He didn't adapt or deviate from his game plan. Schools like UConn or Rutgers took advantage. We'd fare better against WVU and Louisville, which had similar style of play.

I wish he was the only one of the new usf gen folks that feels that way but, there seems to be a large % that just have no interest. All of us on here mainly come from the time when there was no USF football so we were eager to see it get started and supportive. Different mind set from prior generations. Always tough to digest when we see other teams w/ packed stands. Tough to pass the torch if there isnt anyone that wants to grab it. Hopefully, it will change-Hopefully we will start winning again could help??

Not a generational thing. Too easy to blame the young ones. It's a USF cultural problem, which is a bit difficult to define.

I know plenty of pre-1997 alumni that graduated from USF and have no interest in supporting their alma mater. They'd rather purchase season tix to schools north of us.

If ucf had two seasons in a row as bad as our last two, their stadium would be a ghost town.

They had some really lean years over in Oveido. Recall, they were winless in 2015. Their attendance was pretty poor. They caught lightning in a bottle after their hire of Frost.

    Interviewer:  Does Tampa support USF?

Matt: That's a really good question

A valid question. When we were winning, things were quite buzzy, and I had peeps asking for tix constantly. The Post-Taggart era has zapped that momentum. We really need some sustained winning to help build a die-hard fan culture.

I could not watch the game because it was not streamed. Did anyone really stand out on offense or defense? Any big plays on either side ? We really won't know what we have until byu? I would love to see usf go bowling but realistically it seems cjs will be lucky to get 4 wins. He just hasn't shown me anything that the team is improving and he can run a team and bring his offensive insight to improve the offense. Shoop is the x-factor because if he can marginally improve the d, then we have improve  our win total fairly easy from 2 wins.

D looked competent overall. I actually saw some blitzing. Byron Matos could really be disruptive if he takes to coaching like a fish to water. RBs looked stout. WRs dropped too many. McClain was challenged to not scramble as much and looked limited. Marsh showed the more active and accurate arm. Byron Brown looks like a FR physically but made some good plays in the 2nd half.

We were beating the big boys , were ranked, he built us from nothing to power 5, and we got media exposure. He is the only coach we have had that brought a packed house and the excitement to the stadium.

Jim Leavitt did a phenomenal job building. He face planted in Big East conference play. I think he was too loyal to some inadequate coordinators during his tenure.

Charlie Strong - the gift that keeps on giving

I'm amazed at how Charlie Strong a rep as a FL recruiting machine was actually all wrapped into Clint Hurtt's sleazy recruiting antics at Miami/Louisville. Despite a show cause against Hurtt by the NCAA, he's the Seattle Seahawks D coordinator. These guys all fall on their feet.

Think I heard they have under 3k students. How the f can we not find 1 kid that can shoot 3s out of 48k students?

Besides our lack of offensive scheming during the CBG tenure, our inability to find a consistent outside shooter has truly been confounding.
