  1. That’s a tough one.  We haven’t shown any consistency all year.  If we play the remainder of the season as well as we did against UAB I could see us running the table.

    consistency

And on the flip side...if we play as poorly as we did against Army, we will end up having to bus the table.

  2. My homies over at ESPN are running a promotion "19 days of football". To accomodate this, there's the Sunday night pro-game,  college on Thursday & Saturday. However....they're also putting on games, Tuesday, Wednesday, Friday...etc.

So....we *****-n-moan about moving games to Fridays, but I wanted to hear what you thought about  this moving games to every night of the week.  Granted, we're not involved (well...there was that UAB thingy), but if they do it in 2004, I see no reason why they won't do it henceforth.  I think last night was Uconn & Norhtern Illinois (or some such MAC event).  I don't think you're gonna see the BCS teams playing on this sort of schedule.

Whaddya think?  Is this sports charity?  Face it...the odds of me down in Tampa watching Uconn & Northern Illinois are pretty danged remote unless you DO put it on a weeknight.  Is this taking advantage of the have-nots?

  3. Well....maybe there is something to this IAA FAMU band thing...if the teams sucks (3-6  thus far), maybe the highly-touted band can suit up:

Hazing Suit Wins Former FAMU Band Member $1.8 Million

    The Associated Press

    Published: Nov 6, 2004

TALLAHASSEE - A former Florida A&M University marching band member who was badly beaten during a 2001 hazing incident won a $1.8 million verdict in a civil battery case.

Marcus Parker, now 21, was beaten so badly with a paddling board during a Marching 100 initiation that one of his kidneys temporarily shut down. He has been through four surgeries, and likely will require a kidney transplant, his attorney, David Frank, said.

After a two-day trial, jurors late Monday found five men liable for damages. An attorney will collect the award by garnishing the defendants' wages and going after their assets, Frank said.

``I feel like justice was served, and I'm just glad it's over,'' Parker said.

The five men - Eric Biggins, David Benoit, Anthony Gamble, Sean McGriff and Jimmy Simmons - did not appear at the trial. All either could not be reached or declined to comment.

Records show Parker, a trumpet player from Jacksonville, settled with FAMU a year ago for a confidential amount.

Hazing is illegal under Florida law, and FAMU maintains a ``zero tolerance'' policy that includes kicking any students caught hazing out of the band.

Though other hazing victims have sued the university, this case marked the first time a victim has gone after individuals involved, Frank said.

  4. ...Wow - one lucky win and suddenly the fire jim leavitt crowd is packing for a bowl trip in December...

Yep...the season is FAR from over. As far as I'm concerned, all we did was flip one-for-one (expected loss at UAB, expected win over Army).  And ECU beat Army, soooooo.....

Again, it depends on what you want to discuss...possibilities or probabilities. I lean more towards probabilities and wouldn't be at all surprised if we lose to Memphis and Pitt.  I'm gonna spot us ECU & Cincy, but if we lose either (or both!) of them, it's not like it will be completely unexpected.

I enjoy the games one at a time, but honestly - do you think this is a bowl caliber team?  A couple of years back, North Texas - with a losing record, but winning record within their conference - got to some bowl game.  I really think there's very few bowl games that have merit (and too many bowl games to start with) so I really would not want to see my mediocre alma mater get into a bowl game because they're the best of the worst.

    ::)

  5. I'm now convinced that this is a codicil of USF's Raymond James lease. It just has to be. The Glaz-- er, I mean "TSA" is making us play six games at RJS as part of the terms of USF's lease, so USF can be making maximum money for THEM in the form of the aforementioned money that USF doesn't get to keep.

That does not sound - given everything else Glazerish -  too far fetched.  ;D

  6. Will that be enough for the haters to get off Leavitt's back?

In my opinion, this game will make or break USF's season.  Leavitt has found a way to get it done in games like this in the past and, for some reason, I think he will do it again Wednesday.

I doubt a win over UAB would sway the anti-Leavitt crowd. To do so would be an admission of how fickle they are.

I think the season broke with the loss to Army.  UAB is playing well and it 's a road game.  ::)

  7. My question would be: Has Spurrier publicly stated - for the record - that if asked, he would return? I know there's a lot of BB fodder, but I would think that it would be difficult to go back.  The bottom line being, some of the shine is off the halo. Perhaps the Unsinkable Steve Spurrier is not the be-all and end-all he was made out to be (abject failure in the pro ranks).  Then again, I never was a break-up & make-up kind of guy.

  8. Cincinnati

    Connecticut

    Georgetown

    Louisville

    Notre Dame

    Pittsburgh

    Providence

    Rutgers

    Seton Hall

    St. John's

    South Florida

    Syracuse

    Villanova

    West Virginia

In looking over the participants...I think it will take some time to get to middle-of-the-pack.  These aren't just average teams.  They're all very good.  I think five years to get to .500 is fair.

  9. 1. With some tough losses - what will make this a productive season for you?

A: productive would necessarily have to be a modicum of improvement from week to week, regardless of W/L record.

    2. Do you feel Jim Leavitt has been a successful coach for USF?

    A. Yes...imagine languishing in IAA land for 12 years.

    3. Do you feel USF football has been successful to this point in time?

    A. Yes...success being measured on overall progress. To go from not having a team to where we are now in seven years. There's schools that have been around a lot longer than us who would love to have our problems.

    4. What do you feel will make this program successful in the next five years? (Bowl game appearance? Conference champion? National Champion?)

    A. Being able to compete within our conference to avoid finishing in the lower half.  While conference champion is a reasonable goal within the next five to seven years, I don't think we'll see a Nat'l Championship for a long, long, long time.

    5. Do you feel football or basketball will ultimately have more success once we join the Big East?

    A. You use the term ultimately. By that , there is no end timeframe. If you are really asking will USF ever compete equally in football and basketball, yes - when they're middle of the pack.  But ultimately, I  think USF will garner more success football (over time) than it ever will in basketball.  Why? How long have we had a basketball team?
