That's a great pick up. On the espn website he is our highest ranked recruit with a 78 score. I think that looks to only hs recruits.

You don't like the western Charlotte roughriders?
Personally I will watch whoever we play. I think in this weaker AAC we should be very competitive; and it be nice to compete for a conference title. I hope we can be the next Tulane, UTSA, Troy, or Coastal Carolina. So for me I am fine with whoever we play as long as we win. But in my post I was talking about "most people" who are not terribly excited about the new AAC, to say the least.

How many games do we need to win for you to want to keep Gregory after the season?
How many games do you think we need to win for Kelly to not fire him?
for me .500 on the season would do it. Anything less and I think he needs to go. Its been 5 years already?
As to how many wins when it comes down to Kelly that's my biggest worry, since I think 5 wins in conference would do it.
In a way I am thankful that Scott didn't win 3 games this year since in that case I think Kelly would have kept Scott for another year. I am glad we have a new coach coming in.

We got to get 40k for football & 8k for hoops for just about every **** game
40k capacity with possibility of expansion I think will be perfect for new OCS. When the OCS opens ( assuming we are also winning games) will do wonders for attendance especially the first couple of years. Long term for attendance to pick up we will also need a more attractive schedule. That's the hard part since at this time for a lot of fans ( not myself included) its hard to get excited about the new AAC. Joining the Big 12 or ACC would cure that.

Western Kentucky our opener was the CUSA offensive leader scoring over 35 points a game and will be returning their record breaking QB.
Big test for the Bulls right off the bat
I believe that we can win

I started following when i attended school in 06. These are by far the worst 3 years in usf football history.
Yes I was at USF from 2000-2004, and then Stetson law in St Pete's from 2005-2008, so I lived in the bay area until 2008. Great times it was from our early beginnings, to moving up to the Big East, to being ranked number 2 in the country.
The last 3 years have been bad, but we can only go up from where we are now. I think when we start winning again and finally open our stadium, the success is going to feel so much sweeter, and we are going to appreciate it more then the first time around. I can't wait for what the next 3 years have to offer.

Wagner is FCS. He put up big numbers at an FCS school, 50 receptions last year. There are a lot of FCS players that can play on FBS level and at a high level if given the chance.
Good pick up. I really like our offense for next year. We have to hold on to Brown, Bohanon, Battie, and Weaver. If I am a WR recruit I would want to play for USF right now. Probably need a few more OL, and maybe another receiver.

I actually think we have equally talented players according to recruiting but the coaching and player development is holding usf back. Hopefully golesh is the guy to get usf back to relevance.
Yea I agree. Recruiting was decent over the last two years. I think that's why many were so disappointed with the results last year since we saw that there was talent on the team. And we did almost beat teams like Cincy, Florida, and UCF. We were the dominant team in the first half until our QB went down against Tulane. Not making excuses, but better coaching and we could have won those games. I guess my point is we do have decent talent on the team. Hopefully Coach Golesh can get us that better coaching that the players and the fans deserve.

I'm with you Friscobull , but unfortunately until we prove otherwise hopefully sooner than later all of these teams look down at usf.
I hope that in the not too distant future we will have left North Texas, Rice, SMU, and UTSA from Texas behind for the BIG 12 (although if some of them join us it would be fine to). Instead it would be nice to play Baylor, Texas Tech, and TCU in the Big 12. And that should not only be the dream; but the goal!

We heard so often in the last few years after our OOC schedule for football, that we are 0-0, and that the season really starts with in conference play ( which I never bought since it sets the tone for the rest of your season and some of my best USF memories are the OOC wins in football like Pitt(first one),Auburn, FSU, Notre Dame), but this time it might be true for basketball. Whether we have turned the corner in basketball will be decided in conference play.

Man, Golesh is really pulling a USF athletics tweet here. What’s the news?!?
yes, you have to be careful with those since if you dangle a promise that something huge will be announced and then you don't deliver, you can lose credibility ( not saying this is the case here since these things are usually announced at the end of the weekend or sometimes even days later).

Even my pre-season prediction that we had a shot against BYU and at the very least we wouldn’t get embarrassed turned out to not be remotely realistic.
I don't think the expectations or predictions were unrealistic; the coach we had just wasn't able to get it done. BYU is just a slightly above average 7-5 team. We should always expect our team to do well, If these expectations or predictions are not met; it means the coach failed us; not that we were wrong in our expectations or predictions.
I expect us to be in a bowl game two years from now, and compete for a conference championship in year 3. If these expectations are not met it would not mean my expectations were not realistic; it would mean the new coach wasn't able to live up to expectations.

I am looking at the bowl games for today, and I see that Rice whose record is 5-7 is playing in a bowl game. Is 5-7 really all it takes to get to a bowl game now? Really no excuses to not be playing in a bowl game in year 2, perhaps even year 1 under Coach Golesh. Anything less would be disappointing.

Herman to FAU gets an A- and Chadwell to Liberty gets a B+ in the same article. I guess time will tell whether Golesh ends up being the right hire. I personally will refrain from giving it a score until after his first season. It will be interesting to see how he can recruit in the off season.

Yes I agree it seemed they panicked. It would have been better to have added UAB and UTSA and then have sat back letting the college football landscape play out. Quality vs quantity. There have been rumors that San Diego State could be joining the Pac 10 ( or whatever they are called right now). Maybe now would have been a good time to have created a national American Conference and have offered programs like Boise state, Colorado State, Air Force, and Fresno State. Also Army and Appalachian State would also have made sense
For example have a east division with USF, Temple, East Carolina, Appalachian State, Army, Navy, UAB, Tulane
and a west division with UTSA, Memphis, Colorado State, Air Force, Boise State, Tulsa, Fresno State
or some variation to equal the numbers out
I forgot about SMU; that would equal out the divisions at 8 teams

If we just added those 2 and left it as a 10 team conference I'd have been happier than what ended up happening. Guessing they added the others to bump it up to 14 knowing 3-4 teams in the conference are actively looking to leave to another conference

Exploria Stadium in Orlando, FloridaThanks, I had no idea about these games being on today. I must say I am more interested in the UAB, and UTSA bowl games compared to Houston, Cincy, and UCF . UAB and UTSA make more sense then some of the other additions to the conference, and I will be looking forward to when we play them next year.

It seems more and more like the OCS will become a reality. I must say I doubted whether Kelly could get it done, and I am impressed. This is the best news for USF in a long time.
Now it will be interesting to see renderings. I hope it will look more closely to what San Diego State and Colorado State received versus lets say FAU, and Tulane ( don't mean no disrespect since their stadiums are not bad). It will be a message to the Big 12 that we are committed to our program. Now lets start winning games, and I think our future is bright!

He had the same advantages and disadvantages of the other jeff at utsa. The only difference is one can coach and build players up and yhe other had no clue what he was doing while making excuses for his failures.
I agree there were zero reasons as to why Scott couldn't be successful at USF. Scott couldn't make the adjustment from being an OC to HC. I don't buy covid as a reason since that was the same for every program. All the tools were there (fertile recruiting ground, transfer portal, mediocre conference) for him to succeed; he just want able to do it.
Also there will be zero reasons as to why Golesh can't be succesfull, especially with a weaker schedule in an even weaker conference. If he is not successful there will be zero excuses as to why.

I think the important thing that is being lost with the Grier decision "business is business". Is he actually going to make more money playing for UCF? This is the real problem with the future of recruiting for us. If we can't even compete with the tinmen when it comes to NIL, then we are truly ******.
UCF are now in the BIg 12 so its normal that right now they are ahead of us in recruiting. That's why its important to not be left behind next time in realignment. However a good HC will find ways in this new environment to get good recruits to USF. I think the transfer portal can be a benefit to us. We should look at SMU in regards to what they have done in recent times through the transfer portal.

Listening to ESPNU radio on XM, specifically the “Off Campus” show. They had CAG on at about 4pm and based on what he said it looks like we had an offer out to him before the Tenn/Vandy game. He said his agent texted him after the game “you ready?” and he added that by the end of that week he had decided to accept the USF job.
He talked about how easy it is to recruit here with HS talent and added that the transfer portal has made this job better than it’s ever been because all these kids want to come closer to home.
He harped on the commitment we’ve recently made in Athletics and how he can put his stamp on the program. Part of the reason for taking this job was because he got to see the funding, architectural plans and blueprints of the stadium and liked what he saw. He noted that Ray Jay is a good stadium but it’s just not realistic to keep using it.
He watched film on us and liked what he saw. Couldn’t figure out why we weren’t winning with all the talent, but when he got here and did some extra homework he realized what the issue was and already has a plan to tackle that. Sounded very confident in being able to turn this around quickly.
Talked about a bunch of other stuff, including his prior coaching stops, but those were the highlights related to USF.
For anyone wanting to listen to the interview, if you have XM and have the app, you can go to ESPNU channel, click on the proper show, and click on the proper segment which is labeled “Alex Golesh, USF HC”.
I like his "I am ready to go; bring it on attitude". He seems to feel that he has all the tools available to him to win now vs 3 years from now. Also seems to feel like he can use the transfer portal to his advantage to built a team that is ready to compete next year. That's good to hear since I feel that the last coach always had the excuses coming.
Whether Coach Golesh will be successful here I don't know, but I like his candor and work ethic.

80% of our coaches we're ranked while at USF. Every single one before Jeff Scott.
Its not hard to have success here. Just need a guy that can keep the good times rolling once he gets there.
I agree. Sometimes its easy to forget that minus the last 4 years we were a program that did a lot of winning. Even Skip Holtz got us wins against Notre Dame, Miami, and a bowl game win against Clemson. Also the bowl game wins against Texas Tech and South Carolina are not that long ago. There is no reason we can't start winning again, and soon. Go Coach Golesh!

We will be very fortunate to be over .500 in non OOC and will need a winning streak to accomplish that just barely so your measure for success will mean we go .500 in conference? No freakin chance, never going to happen. We may win 3-4 conf games as we usher in a new coach in the off season.
Yes my measure would be .500 on the season including conference games. Don't think it will happen either at which point he would have had received ample time to turn the program around ( is it 5 years now?), and he would need to go in my opinion.

I don't think recruiting was Scott's downfall since in the last several years he was able to bring in highly rated recruits ( Bohanon, Brown, Battie, Horn,..). His problem was coaching.
However, its verry impressive what Coach Golesh was able to do in the last week, especially considering we won 4 games in the last 3 years.
Hopefully he will much better in coaching then Scott. I think he will be!
