  1. Keep in mind that I am a Gator and UF hasn’t gotten a Plant player of note since the 1980’s when I was a Panther. So when you tell me that USF has struggled to get Plant players I have to chuckle. That said, Leo Parker is going to be a great player for you. I’ve known the kid since he was in middle school. He was mainly basketball until a couple years ago when Jesuit talked him into trying football.
  2. Correct. UF had self imposed guidelines to make sure they avoided over-signing. My point was just that undersigning can hurt you and serves little or no purpose.
  3. It will be interesting to see who CKB goes after down the road. He’s got BB for 2019 and Battles/McCloud in the wings, but only one 2019 QB, right?
  4. You just have to make sure you don't bank too many and find yourself “undersigned” down the road due to the 25 signee yearly limit. UF ended up undersigned for what seemed like forever. This will be the first year in a long time that UF has the full 85 scholarships used.
  5. Marve was the first one that did anything. Who did you want before that, Jason Sequin?
  6. No. It was just a hypothetical situation I brought up for discussion.
  7. The last one I can think of that you would have wanted would have been Phillip Ely, and he went to Alabama. After him was Colby Brown, then Rex Culpepper, then Dane Frantzen, then Jordan McCloud.
  8. Umm, you’ve got one right now. Charlie living next to Plant doesn’t hurt, and getting a high flying offense should help too.
  9. Ha! That still happens in the CWT era, just at a different school. I think going fast in the red zone can be even more effective than the rest of the field, provided you do what Kerwin says and only go as fast as proper execution allows. Kerwin’s Red zone efficiency percentage numbers were in the 90’s, I think I read. So I think he gets it.
  10. I can see having to earn the scholarship. Will USF be at it’s full 85 limit this year? Speaking of QB recruits for Bell, it would be awesome if he could pull Tucker Gleason from Plant. I think he’d Be a perfect fit.
  11. I agree completely. I don’t recall it ever happening. Although Scott Frost took his back up QB with him to Nebraska last year. I just thought it was an interesting idea. Very little chance it happens for any number of reasons. But I will say that Rogan Wells’ older brother played for Kerwin at Jacksonville. Maybe the ties are strong enough. Who knows.
  12. Are you saying you wouldn't take a full class or that you wouldn't use those ten spots for ol, dl, and lb?
  13. It is unlikely that a football player is graduating in just three years. Unless you can show that more than 50% of NCAA football players graduate in 3 or less years, you are incorrect. As you said, wanting something to be true and it actually being true are very different things.
  14. I rephrased my statement to say it was unlikely that he was graduating in three years. I stand by that.
  15. Fine, I concede. There is no way Wells would want to come to USF. We shouldn't even discuss the possibility.
  16. Fine. Allow me to restate my position. I personally find it unlikely and very difficult for a football player to be able to graduate in three years. Is it possible? Sure. With dual enrollment and AP classes they could start college as a junior. I just have never heard of a starting college football player who graduated in three years, except for Jonah Williams at Alabama this year. Football takes a ton of time which makes doing the extra academic work difficult.
  17. No way he’s in line to graduate after just 3 years (redshirt sophomore). The only reason I can think he might be interested in coming, even though he has to sit a year, is that he has won the DII title and has nothing left to prove at that level, and might like the idea of having a shot at playing on the larger DI stage. Greater challenge and MUCH more exposure if he hopes to make it to the pros.
  18. The VSU kid can't come in and compete for the job.. He has to sit a year.
  19. As he said in the press conference, what he got from Spurrier's system is the concepts of spacing and timing. Wanting the execution to be as perfect as possible. And he wants to go fast. VSU's offense went fast. You don't set records for scoring by going slow. He just won't go fast to the point that it hurts the execution. He's against going fast just for the sake of going fast. He said he wants to go fast in order to put the defense at a disadvantage. If you go so fast that you lose execution, the defense is no longer at a disadvantage.
  20. I am pretty sure you do. I looked it up, but it is possible that I may have read it wrong. You don't have to sit if you go DI to DII, but if you go DII to DI you have to sit a year (unless you fits an exception). http://www.ncaa.org/student-athletes/current/transfer-terms
  21. He is currently a redshirt sophomore. If he transfers in he'd have to sit a year, but would then be eligible to play his senior year. Also keep in mind that Bell's contract is only for two years. He needs to get your offense kick started immediately. I don't think having the number 2 guy in all of DII come in to help out would ruffle many feathers in the locker room. If McCloud and Battles are worried about him taking their job in two years, you have bigger problems. And him having just one year left to play should not deter any 2020 QB recruits since he'll be gone after their first year.
  22. I think I might be the one who mentioned giving him a scholarship in another post. I don't know what USF's scholarship situation is (UF has traditionally been well below the 85 max) but if you have one to spare I think it would be well used on Wells. He would have to sit a year and would only have one year of eligibility after that, so he's not a threat to anyone immediately. But, he could certainly help the active guys learn the system since he clearly has it mastered. An extra QB coach so to speak.
  23. His style of play certainly doesn't mesh with UGA's current offense. But seeing how they recruited Fields last year (who is now headed to Ohio State), maybe they want to move to a different style.
