  1. Reasons why I am calling for Mike Hobbie's head... Take a look at this drive: U 1-10 U20 SOUTH FLORIDA drive start at 06:28 (1st). U 1-10 U20 CHAMBERS, J. rush for 4 yards to the USF24 (SULLIVAN, Will). U 2-6 U24 HALL, Andre rush for 57 yards to the ARMY19, 1ST DOWN USF (STITH, Ray). U 1-10 A19 HALL, Andre rush for 10 yards to the ARMY9, 1ST DOWN USF (LEWIS, Jonathan). U 1-G A09 HALL, Andre rush for 3 yards to the ARMY6 (TARVER, Dhyan). U 2-G A06 CROSSLEY, C. rush for 4 yards to the ARMY2 (BREWER, Delente;TARVER, Dhyan). U 3-G A02 JULMISTE, Pat pass intercepted by MAIMONE, Matt at the ARMY3, MAIMONE, Matt return 21 yards to the ARMY24 (JULMISTE, Pat). Had we run the ball, we could have scored and gone up 14-7 in the 1st quarter. Instead, the first ended at 7-7. And considering that we lost the game by a touchdown, seems to me the selection of the FIRST PASS on the drive led directly to the loss. Hobbie has problems like this in every game. He doesn't understand the simple concept of "dancing with the partner that brought you". Fire Mike Hobbie Now!
  2. Kiz - The Bulls could set the new losing streak record... @ UL and @ UAB before they come back to play ECU on Nov 13th. Given what we saw the last three nights, I don't think the Bulls can win these next two games. A Four-Game losing streak, going into ECU with a 2-5 record. UGH.
  3. I can't speak for the 2pt converstion time out... but on this one, USF only had 10 players on the field. Hard to stop a punt return when you have fewer players than the return team.
  4. Few people probably know this... however, I had the privilege of being in a suite tonight (much thanks for that to the suite owners)... In the suite next to the one I was in... sat Steve Spurrier in a yellow shirt with a green vest. Looked good. He was there for most of the second half... didn't see when he ducked out. And he rooted for the Bulls, too! Now, I am not sure WHY he was there, other than he has his weekends free now... If CJL ever leaves, I would love to have Spurrier on our sidelines... he may be the only person that could do a better job here. However, Jim Leavitt deserves to be a coach at USF as long as he wants to be here. No ifs, ands, or buts about it -- and tonight's game not withstanding.
  5. Fellas... Fellas... Fellas... We set a school record for rushing tonight -- that's not bad. Hall had more than 200 yards -- that's not bad. We only had 8 penalties for 34 yards -- that's not bad. I loved the attempt at an on-side kick to start the game! A neat trick that could have worked, except our guys didn't seem like they could reach the ball. Jim Leavitt does NOT... repeat does NOT deserve the disrespect of calling for his head because of a slight downturn in our season. Wait until the end of the year to reflect on this -- we still have SIX more games to play, and while I am becoming as pessimistic as the rest of you -- there is a reason they actually play the games. It is still reasonalbe for us to make a bowl game. Now, here is what I see to be our problems from this game: Fire Mike Hobbie! Mike Hobbie couldn't respond to the adjustments Army made at halftime. I remain convinced that he should be fired -- heck, I may call for him to be taken outside, shot, dragged around campus, and posted on a stake as a warning for future offensive coordinators who don't seem to understand what is happening on the field. The Spread SUCKS!!!When will CJL realize that the best COLLEGE offense is one designed to suit the skill of the players we have -- not one that tries to fit players into a scheme. The talent we have could work VERY WELL in a two-back pro-set... but NOOOO, CJL and Hobbie have to continue the darn spread. If 367 yards rushing tonight wasn't enough to convince them that we are a better running team than passing team, I don't know what will do it. Our defense is too fast. There were many times where they overpursued, allowing the RB to cut back against the grain. Or defenders got past the blockers, then when the RB cut back, the blockers were behind them. Because of this, our defense couldn't seem to stop anyone -- never mind that Army has one of the best rushing offenses in the nation. PJ has lost his edge. 10 of 23? Some of them weren't his fauly (Peyton dropping a sure touchdown!)... but then what happened on the INT at the 2 yard line? The WR was wide-open at the back of the endzone, but he tried to hit the TE at the goal line. Looks to me like the TCU game was the exception, the rest of his games are about the same.

  7. Army 42, South Florida 35 TAMPA, Fla. (AP) -- Carlton Jones ran for 225 yards and five touchdowns and Army rallied to beat South Florida 42-35 Saturday night for its first winning streak in seven years. Army (2-4, 2-3 Conference USA) snapped a school-record 19-game losing streak with a 48-29 win over Cincinnati on Oct. 9. The Black Knights last won consecutive games in 1997, when they beat Rutgers and Colgate. Army also snapped a nine-game road losing streak and ended a 12-game losing streak in night road games that dated to a 41-14 victory at Kansas State in 1987. Army's Zac Dahman finished was 16-for-27 for 202 yards and one touchdown. South Florida quarterback Pat Julmiste scored on a 1-yard run in the third quarter to give the Bulls a 21-7 lead. He completed 10 of 23 passes for 116 yards and rushed for 90 yards on 20 carries. Jones scored on a 59-yard run and Army closed within 21-14. After Julmiste scored on a 19-yard run, Jones ran 74 yards for another score and Army trailed 28-20. Austin Miller had his extra-point attempt blocked. Army tied the game at 28-all with 12:21 left in the fourth quarter when Jones scored on a 6-yard run and added the two-point conversion. Jones gave Army a 35-28 lead on a 13-yard scoring run and added the eventual winning TD from 1 yard with 2:24 left, giving Army a 42-28 lead. Joe Bain caught a 43-yard scoring pass from Julmiste to pull South Florida within 42-35 with just over a minute left. Army recovered the ensuing onside kick and ran out the clock. Andre Hall had 200 yards on 19 carries and two touchdowns for South Florida (2-3, 1-2) South Florida capitalized on an Army turnover when Hall scored on an 18-yard run with 11:31 left in the first for a 7-0 lead. The South Florida drive started at the Black Knights' 36 after Craig Kobel forced and recovered Dahman's fumble. On its next possession, Army went 64 yards on 13 plays to tie it at 7-all with 6:28 left in the opening quarter. Dahman's 4-yard TD pass to Aaron Alexander completed a 5-minute drive. Hall capped a 10-play, 93-yard drive with a 21-yard touchdown run, giving South Florida a 14-7 lead with 2:30 left in the first half. He gained 157 yards on 12 carries in the first half. http://sports.espn.go.com/ncf/recap?gameId=242900058
  8. Eric Soncract said (as part of the Bull Backers' tour of the Athletic Facility last week) that $80,000 per game was less than $120 million for a stadium -- and we play in a "state-of-the-art" NFL facility... something that can only be said of a few other programs in the country.
  9. Okay, then. The team has something to "shoot" for! ;-) {Thanks for the research Omni}
  10. Reaper - Exactly. I heard it put this way. The rent we pay to the Glazers is FAR LESS than the money needed to build a stadium. I think an on-campus stadium can be built, once we have the ability to sell AT LEAST 40,000+ season tickets (and the donations that go with most of them)... and that will happen as the team builds a winning tradition.
  11. You know... there is something about how emotional the loss was for UL... it can be very hard for a team to bounce back after suffering like this. They will be playing woulda-coulda-shoulda for a few days, unable to really concentrate on the Bulls. If we can take it to them early next week, we might have a better-than-average chance. However, on the other hand, UL could take this game as motivation to obliterate the rest of their opponents. They could come out fuming and bury us early. Also, USF seems to have had problems this year with mobile QBs. Brohm isn't - but LeFlors is very mobile - gave UM fits last night. He could be a big problem for us as well. I, for one, will have a better feel after the Army game.
  12. I agree the uncontested layup is easy... but consider the player scoring is usually moving, or having players chasing them or coming at them, or talking trash. On a free throw, you are set, squared to the basket, have a few seconds to take aim and shoot, have NO one in your face or coming into your face... no rush, no pressure. I'm not asking for 100% - that's unreasonable... but 75-80-85% - especially in the clutch - isn't too far out of line.
  13. You mean guys that can actually make free throws? The easiest shot in basketball, and USF can't make 6 out of 10 of them. ARGH. Maybe if the basketball team can answer this demon, the football team will learn how to play without penalties... Okay, now I know I'm dreaming.
  14. The Sun Dome is not really an "independently owned and operated" entity. The Sun Dome is operated by the non-profit corporation Sun Dome, Inc., a direct support organziation for the university -- like the USF Alumni Association, USF Foundation, and the Bulls Club. Chances are, if USF ever builds an on-campus stadium, Sun Dome, Inc. will operate it (they currently operate the Sun Dome, Red McEwen Field, the USF Softball Complex, and the Claw (USF gold course). Here is the Florida statute on DSO's, so you can see how it is tied to USF:
  15. Amen, BullGrad! Fraternities are not for everyone, but they provide a fuller college experience, give you the chance to develop leadership skills, and provide you a national network for when you graduate. Now, there are bad apples in fraternities - just like in anything else. Too often, those bad apples gloss over the good things fraternities do. I know my fraternity raises thousands of dollars for charity each year - and the other organizations do the same thing. Hard to say that's a bad thing. Proud to be Greek!
  16. Okay... I found this to answer question #1 (confirming UABGrad's post): From the Indianapolis Star So, it looks like we need to add 2 home games in 2005 and 2006, 3 in 2007... etc etc etc According to NationalChamps... USM has 2 OOC road games for next year('Bama & Auburn), so I doubt they want to come back to Tampa... Navy has all 11 games scheduled for next year already (and 12 for 2006), so they are out as well... Troy State has four OOC games for 2005 already... Not looking good... can we say TWO games vs 1-AA teams?? (http://www.nationalchamps.net/NCAA/future_schedules/future_schedules_home.htm)
  17. Some points to ponder on this one... From ESPN: AND From the Houston Chroncile:
  18. Brad needs to post the Prediction Contest... But we beat them 28-0 AT West Point last year... They may have gotten better, but 16 is probably low. Take USF to cover that one. 41-10.
  19. 1) Has the NCAA passed the new 12-games per year rule? I thought I saw that recommendation - although it may only have been for a specific season. 2) Other than Penn State and UCF, do we have any other OOC games scheduled? The NationalChamps site still says we have a home game with Eastern Michigan, but I wasn't sure if this was still on. 3) I know we have only 7 Big East games next year.. some quick thoughts: We probably won't play the same teams on the road or at home next year, that means we get to host Louisville and Cincinnati while traveling to Pittsburgh and Syracuse. We get two road games out of WVU, U Conn, and Rutgers - with the thrid game at Ray Jay. We know that we go to Syrcause because of their 2005 schedule is is easy to set. First, in 2004 they host Pitt, UConn, Rutgers, & Cincy - which means they get those four on the road next year. That leaves WVU, Louisville and USF for their only three Big East home games. This would leave a schedule that could look like this for 2005 (note two trips to Pennsylvania): @ Penn State vs Central Florida vs Eastern Michigan (?) <FOURTH OOC : T.B.A. > @ Pittsburgh @ Syracuse vs Louisville vs Cincinnati @ U Conn, WVU, or Rutgers @ U Conn, WVU, or Rutgers vs U Conn, WVU, or Rutgers Of course, if there are somehow 12 games next year, then we need to find a FIFTH OOC game... UGH.
  20. Students at any USF campus can enroll at any other campus - that makes it part of the same university. Otherwise, there would need to be transfer applications or other agreements established. Also, graduates from the St. Pete campus do not get "USF St. Pete" on their degree, and I believe their transcripts do not reflect the regional campus (I could be wrong on that aspect). Also, since St. Pete College is the public community college in Pinellas County, I don't see them merging in the future. Especially because SPC has a significant program called their "university center" where degree programs from many universities are offered (FIU's hospitality management, UF's architecture, etc). Pinellas Students sit in classrooms equipped with monitors to watch the classes at the other universities via live, closed-circuit television.
  21. It might be nice to change this fact. I know we have some open spots on the schedule - perhaps we could get a 2 for 1 with them over the next few years... Just a thought.
  22. In 2002, then State Senator Don Sullivan was approached by his constituents in Pinellas County and asked to make some changes to the way the USF St Pete campus works. The primary motiviation was because it was not possible for a Pinellas-based student to take all the classess he or she needed at the St. Pete campus - that meant students had to cross the bay to Tampa or Sarasota to take the classes they needed to graduate. The campus now has greater autonomy, but the CEO reports directly to President Genshaft. Here is the state law regarding the branch campus.
  23. USF St. Peterburg is not its own university - but they were empowered to make more decisions seperate from the Tampa campus and to go after seperate accreditation. Some programs, including Athletics, remain under the purview of the Tampa campus.
  24. Bull83 - Let's update this after today's games: Army 48 Cincy 29 ECU 27 Tulane 25 UAB beat Mississipi State. USF, UL, UC, & Memphis were idle. TCU (3-2)- has games @UAB, Houston, @Cincy, @UL, USM, Tulane.... losing @UAB, @UL, vs USM are looking good and Houston isnt exactly a slouch. SO they will be borderline like us. Cincy (2-4)- UM, TCU, @USM, USF, @UL.... Unless they step it up soon, their chances look worse than ours. They can only lose two more and with games at UL and at USM they may be done. They then play Memphis, TCU and us at home. [i also think they are done!] Tulane (1-3) @UM, UAB, @UH, Navy, Army, @TCU, UL.... They have to go 5-2 in their remaining games. UAB, @UH, Navy @TCU and UL should all be close if not losses, so maybe they are out of the picture after all. [Darn right!] USF (2-2)- Army, @UL, @UAB, ECU, @Cincy, Memphis, Pitt.... All we need to do is go 4-3 in our remaining games. Army and ECU SHOULD be easy wins. So we need two wins out of @UL @UAB @Cincy and hosting memphis and Pitt. I think pulling off the win at Cincy will be big in knocking them out and putting us even closer. I think we will be 5-5 going into Pitt. If the guys cant get up for that.... well its a sad day!
